2 Epiphany of Our Lord Prayer Before Worship: O God of light and peace, whose glory shining in the child of Bethlehem, still draws the nations to yourself: dispel the darkness that shrouds our path, that we may come to kneel before Christ in true worship, offer him our hearts and souls, and return from his presence to live as he has taught. 10 The Tuesday evening Bible Study resumes January January 9 th at 7 p.m. with a 6 week study based on Dallas Willard s book The Divine Conspiracy: Jesus Master Class for Life. Using a combination of video and participant books we will explore together such topics as: the Divine Conspiracy; the path to a blessed life; becoming a good person; treasuring what matters most; becoming a community of prayerful love and living as a disciple of Jesus. If you are interested in being a part of this study, sign up on the sheet between pastor s offices so we know how many participant guides to order. Calvary Lutheran s Annual Meeting is Sunday, January 27 th following our 10:00 a.m. Worship Service. There will be a dinner following the Annual Meeting hosted by our youth. 12 God s Promise of a Savior: The Wise Men January 5-6, 2019 Epiphany means manifestation. On this day we celebrate the revelation of Christ to the Gentiles that is, to all nations. Some Christian traditions celebrate three great epiphanies on this day: the magi s adoration of the Christ child, Jesus baptism in the Jordan River, and his first miracle, in which he changes water into wine. The word and sacraments are for us the great epiphany of God s grace and mercy. We go forth to witness to the light that shines brightly in our midst. Daily Bible Home Sunday Read Matthew 2:1-23 The wise men bring gifts to Jesus. Donate some nonperishable items to a food pantry or shelter. Monday Read Micah 5:1-5a A ruler from Bethlehem will come and bring peace. Pray for a peaceful end to armed conflicts. Tuesday Read Hosea 11:1-9 God is compassionate even when we are ungrateful. Say a prayer of thanksgiving for all God has done. Wednesday Read Jeremiah 31:15-25 Jeremiah shares a metaphor of a woman weeping over her lost children, but also hope for their future. Say a prayer for all who grieve. Thursday Read Isaiah 49:1-7 God calls a servant to restore Israel. What is God calling you to do? Ask for God s wisdom and strength to follow God s call. Friday Read Luke 2:21-40 Jesus is presented in the temple. Pray verses as a prayer. Saturday Read Luke 2:41-52 The child Jesus goes missing but is found in the temple. How would you react in Mary s situation? 12
