2 JANUARY 3/4, 2015 ST. ANDREW R.C. CHURCH PAGE 2 THE THEME We sometimes speak of having an epiphany - a sudden, powerful realization or insight. This day celebrates the great epiphany in history that Christ is the radiant light who has come for all who sit in darkness. Christmas focused on this revelation to the shepherds, to simply ordinary people. This ancient feast of Epiphany proclaims that Jesus coming is for the whole world, including the great, the powerful and the wise. No one is left in darkness. THE READINGS ISAIAH 60:1-6: The glory of the Lord shines upon us. EPHESIANS: 3:2-3a, 5-6: The Gentiles are coheirs in Christ. MATTHEW 2:1-12: Jesus is revealed to the wise and the powerful. -SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - SATURDAY, JANUARY 10th, :00 PM Mass Priest Fr. Peter Lector S. Alter E.M. s C. Gallagher, J. Holden, J. 3 JANUARY 3/4, 2015 ST. ANDREW R.C. CHURCH PAGE 3 Dear Parish Family: From Fr. Peter s Desk The Epiphany of The Lord Today we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany. The feast commemorates the revealing of Jesus as the Savior of the world to the Magi. This feast of Epiphany is a reflection of the light. It celebrates the manifestation of God to the magi and all his other manifestations to us, who touched our lives at every age. Every moment of grace can be called an epiphany: a conversion, a new insight, or a new stage of spiritual growth. It is seeing the face of Jesus in all events. The first reading from Isaiah tells us that the light of God will shine on the New Jerusalem and it will become the light in the world drawing all nations towards the abundance of its spiritual illumination. In the second reading Paul speaks of the commissioning of God s grace to illumine our hearts so that we become fellow heirs, members of the same body and shares in the promise in Christ Jesus through the Spirit. In the Gospel the wise men are a picture of those who seek Jesus with the pure heart. Purity means singleness of purpose. They had searched faithfully and done perseveringly all they could do, till they found him. They were determined and confident to face any threat or inconvenience in their search for God. He honors such efforts and meets their need. If a person truly seeks Jesus, God takes the unexpected events and works them out for their good (Romans 8:28)......if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord... (Jeremiah 29:13-14). Yet how a few search for him today! As we celebrate the feast of Epiphany, let us pray to God to lead us by the light of the Holy Spirit so that our eyes may be opened to encounter him in this Eucharistic celebration. Along with the Magi, the Wise Men, let us also worship Jesus whole-heartedly, and offer ourselves unreservedly at his feet. God Bless you Always, Fr. Peter STEWARDSHIP Stewardship Reflection The three wise men who came from the East to pay homage to the infant Jesus brought Him rich gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh as part of their worship. What gifts have I brought to this celebration to offer to the newborn Savior? Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who develop their talents to the fullest in order to use them to benefit church and community by assisting the poor, feeding the hungry, consoling the sorrowful and teaching the young.
