Parents and Godparents are required to attend the Pre-Jordan baptism class. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: From 4:00 to 4:45 on Sat. and anytime by appointment in the rectory. MARRIAGE: Couples planning to celebrate this Sacrament are asked to call the rectory as soon as possible after their engagement but no later than six months prior to the wedding date. PARISH MINISTRIES Communion to the Homebound: Call rectory to receive a monthly visit. Methodist Hospital: Communion is given on Sundays by request. Monday through Friday, a priest from one of the local parishes visits the hospital. Epiphany s day is Monday,. Meals for the Homebound: the parish participates in the Aid for Friends program. Call rectory. Food Pantry: Open Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Photo ID is required. Fourth Magi Society: Serving parishioners in financial need. Call rectory ADULT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION R.C.I.A. The Rite of Christian Initiation is a way of introducing and preparing those who wish to be baptized. An additional gathering is availble for those baptized but desire to become Catholic. Sacramental Instruction: is available to all who are baptized but seeking Confirmation & Eucharist PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN PREP: Sunday morning instruction for children in public school beginning with Mass at 9 A.M.

3 LITURGY SPOTLIGHT The gathered liturgical assembly constitutes the fundamental symbol of the Risen Christ and, as such, the assembly is the primary subject of the celebration. As Body of Christ, the assembly unites with the Head of the body to offer continually a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. REFLECTIONS It is awesome to be a part of a parish that is called the Epiphany of Our Lord. May we be like the Magi and continually go to whatever lengths to seek Jesus. Like the Magi, may we bring Jesus our gifts and worship Him with reverence. On our feast day, prayerfully reflect on our mission statement. OUR MISSION STATEMENT BAPTIZED INTO JESUS CHRIST WE OF EPIPHANY PARISH IN SOUTH PHILADELPHIA ARE CALLED TO RECEIVE LIFE AND TO GIVE LIFE. IN RESPONSE WE EMBRACE LIFE IN CHRIST, A LIFE OF FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE, AND SHARE IT IN OUR FAMILY, CHURCH AND WORLD. AFFIRMING OUR BAPTISM IN JESUS WE WORSHIP GOD THRU HIM, WITH HIM, IN HIM. GATHERED UP IN HIS SAVING RECONCILIATION, WE ESPOUSE HEALING FORGIVENESS OF EACH OTHER. EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT IN US WE TAKE UP THE TASK TO SERVE EACH OTHER S NEEDS, TO BUILD A KINGDOM OF JUSTICE AND PEACE, AND TO GET READY FOR THE RETURN OF THE LORD IN GLORY. LIKE THE WISE KINGS JOURNEYING TO FIND JESUS, MAY GOD GUIDE US ON OUR JOURNEY SEEKING THE LIGHT... SHARING HIM. An Afterthought: If we leave Mass immediately after Communion or before the final blessing, are we not breaking up the Holy Communion that the community shares once we all receive Him in Holy Communion? This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him. There is no other word than Jesus that the Father can offer us. For Jesus, as the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, is the Word of God. No more can be said and no more can the Father offer! He even gave us His Son and the power of the Holy Spirit to say, yes, to the offer before us; yet the choice remains ours. To force us to love him would violate who the Blessed Trinity is and who we are as creatures created in the image and likeness of our God. Love requires freedom and choice. COME JOIN US! CELEBRATE OUR FEAST DAY THE EPIPHANY OF OUR LORD This weekend Saturday, January 2 nd after the 5 pm Vigil and Sunday, January 3 rd after all Masses, you are invited to join us in the Gathering Room to celebrate our parish feast day for refreshments. This is a great time to meet and greet our fellow parishioners, ask the people sitting next to you if they would like to join you after Mass for refreshment. All are welcome! EPIPHANY GOLDEN AGE CLUB Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 20 th, 2016 at 1 pm in Our Lady of Hope School, 13 th and Jackson Streets. We heartily invite new members! 4 LITURGICAL CORNER Feast of the Epiphany of Our Lord First Reading: Isaiah 60: 1-6 The last part of the book of Isaiah contains the words of a prophet who lived after the Jews returned from exile in Babylon (which is modern-day Iraq). They found their temple destroyed and the city leveled. But with great faith the prophet envisions a wonderful future for Jerusalem. Second Reading: Ephesians 3: 2-3, 5-6 The Ephesians were a community in which Jewish converts to Christianity lived side-by-side with Gentile converts. The author of this letter confirms that God s saving grace is available to everyone, whatever their background. This September here in Philadelphia, our Holy Father, Pope Francis, with great courage, bore witness to faith in Jesus Christ, the Light to the nations in this often dark world that we find ourselves in. On Friday, January 22, 2016, Stella Maris parishioners hope to bear witness to the Sanctity of Life, gifted and redeemed by God, in the annual March for Life in Washington D.C. We will join Archbishop Chaput in offering Mass at the National Basilica/Shrine of Immaculate Conception at 10 am. Bus will leave from Stella Maris parking lot at 6:30 am. It will be an opportunity to gain a plenary indulgence that is being offered by Pope Francis in the Year of Mercy that began on December 8 th for anyone who visits the National Shrine. The indulgence may be gained for yourself or a soul in Purgatory. You will have the option to go into the center city of Washington for the March for Life or stay at the Shrine to visit its many altars representing the apparitions and devotions to Mary from countries around the world. Reservations will be taken on first-come basis by calling the rectory at On the morning of the March for Life, Tony Melendez will perform at the 22 nd annual National Memorial for the preborn and their mothers and fathers.
