1 Mother s Poem MAY 2015 You can only have one mother. Patient, kind and true; No other friend in all the world, Will be the same to you When other friends forsake you, To mother you will return. For all her loving kindness, She asks nothing in return. As we look upon her picture, Sweet memories we recall, Of a face so full of sunshine, And a smile for one and all. 2 Page 2 Sharpe Notes 4 Biblical Claims About Jesus Resurrection The resurrection of Jesus is so important that Paul writes, If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins (1 Corinthians 15:17), and, If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied (v. 19). Here are 4 things the Bible claims about the resurrection: 1) His resurrection was literal and bodily. His resurrection his scars remained (John 20:27), he ate fish (John 20:12), and will bodily come again (1 Thessalonians 4:16). 2) Jesus had a justifying resurrection. Romans 4:26 says, He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. His conquering of the last enemy, death, and His triumphant appearance as being alive, were evidences that sin had been fully atoned for. 3) His resurrection was a first fruits of ours to come. Paul describes Jesus s resurrection as the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep (1 Corinthians 15:20). First fruits is an agricultural metaphor that points to the initial quality of the harvest. Christ s resurrection is the first fruits of the resurrection harvest that includes the resurrection of believers. 4) In Jesus, believers are already spiritually resurrected. The resurrection is not only a future event for believers. In Christ we are already united with Him in his death, burial and resurrection (Romans 6:4-6). What is true of Jesus is true of us. Continue The Story by joining a small group which goes into more depth. The dates and times are: Sundays at 9:45am - Children s classes in the fellowship hall while Jerry Watson leads the adult class in the sanctuary. Wednesday mornings at 9:00am - The women meet in the fellowship hall. Thursday evening at 6:00pm - Wendy Walstrum leads a group in the fellowship hall.

6 Page 6 Our April meeting started off with a delicious Homemade Chicken Pot Pie dinner prepared by Linda Sims. Barbara completed the meal with a sweet treat of cherry and lemon angel food cakes. Thank you Ladies!!!!!! For our program we discussed how we can't keep Christ to ourselves, but how we need to flood the world with His Light. The ladies discussed many ways Hopewell's beacon shines out and reaches local, national, and global missions. The women were very busy in April with their annual Sub Sale. We made and sold 392 subs which provided us with a net profit of $1800. The UMW wish to thank all of the people who either supported or helped to make this a very successful fund raiser to support our mission goals. A new day for our Annual UMW and UMM Church Picnic. This year it will be on SUNDAY, May 31 st, after the worship service in the Tabernacle. Bring a covered dish or dessert to share. We will provide the hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls and fixins'. So plan now to DRESS the family causally and enjoy a relaxing day of good food, friends, fellowship, and fun in the Grove. Our final meeting before we break for summer is Monday, May 4, at 7:00 pm. Our program will be Drop in for Tea, presented by Barbara Eitemiller. We will explore what the Bible has to say about "humili-tea, generosi-tea and hospitali-tea". Barbara has graciously offered to step in for our Vice President, Bonnie String, who is recuperating from surgery. We wish her a speedy and successful recovery. 9 Page 9 May 2015 This month we will be to traveling Silver Spring Mining Place in Bel Air for great fun, food and service. So mark your calendar for Tuesday, May 19th at 6:00 pm. We will need to make reservations so RSVP to Oscina at by 10:00 am that morning or sign up at the Church in the narthex. If you plan to carpool meet at the Church by 5:30 pm on Tuesday. Hope to see you there. Grace Place Havre de Grace UMC prepared a delicious tuna salad sandwich served with deviled eggs and chips for our 65 guests. For dessert Hopewell served a variety of cakes, plus cookies baked by Havre de Grace High School food's class. We had 8 volunteers very busy working in the dining room serving and handing out groceries. We will be doing God s work by serving and helping others on Tuesday, May 12. Everyone is always welcome to come to Grace Place to do God's work by serving others.

She's hopelessly old-fashioned. 18 Years Of Age - That old woman? She's way out of date. 25 Years Of Age - Well, she might know a little bit about it. 35 Years Of Age - Before we decide, let's get mum's opinion. 45 Years Of Age - Wonder what mum would have thought about it. 65 Years Of Age - Wish, I could talk it over with Mum.

12 Page 12 Recipe of the Month CRAB SHRIMP CASSEROLE from the kitchen of Wendy Walstrum 6 slice whole wheat bread 1 can cream of celery soup 1 can crab meat 1/2 cup milk 1/4 cup melted butter 1/2 lb cheese slices 3 eggs beaten 1/2 tsb dry mustard 1 tsb Old Bay seasoning 2 cups milk Break bread into small pieces. Arrange shrimp, crab, cheese, and bread in several layers in a greased casserole dish. Pour melted butter over this. Beat eggs and mustard, Old Bay, and milk. Pour this carefully over the casserole. Refrigerate overnight. Bake for 1 hour at Laughter is the best medicine Phone Home? Lionel phones his mother living in Springfield, MA, USA. 'Mum, how are you?' he asks. 'Not too good,' answers Lionel's mother, 'I've been very weak.' Lionel, concerned asks, 'Why are you so weak, mother?' His mother replies, 'Because I didn't want my mouth to be filled with food if you should phone.'
