8 Page 8 Missions Operation Christmas Child Once again we will be participating in Operation Christmas Child. Empty boxes with directions inside are stored in the narthex and are due back by November 15. If you won't be present on November 15, just place your filled box on the table located in the fellowship hall before then. Thanks so much for your continued support! Thank Yous "Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers. Ephesians 1:16 Dear Linda and Women of United Methodist Hopewell, I was so surprised to be called up front and truly felt I have done nothing to deserve such recognition, however, I will wear the pin with love. I did go home and look up my years of membership joined in 1977 which makes it 38 years. I became membership secretary in January 1981 (34 years). I do take my membership secretary position seriously as I pray over it as I make entries. Also, thanks you for the monetary gift in memory of my dad. I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity. For a small group of ladies, God magnifies your giving and it is overflowing. May God Bless, Linda Fournier I would like to thank the UMW for the service pin I received. Along with the list Linda read while Bonnie pinned me, she was not aware that I was a member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship while in my teens, serving for a time as president of that organization under the leadership of Sue and Vernon Stearn. I have also served as a Sunday School teacher from kindergarten to teens. Ellen Childress Mission Committee, Thank you for sending me a box of treats and for thinking of me. I'll put the erasers to good use. Love, Chris Martinez

13 Page 13 Thom and Debbie Slaughter of Second Wind Ministry provided the women of Hopewell s UMW and guests with an inspiring program on Monday, October 5th. Pastor Corey welcomed everyone to Hopewell United Methodist Church. Thom Slaughter spoke about his personal journey from being a troubled professional singer and musician to the person he is today. On January 12, 1981, Thom came to a crossroads. Mentors guided him through scripture, prayer and friendship. Thom knew that God had a plan and purpose for him and God called Thom to use his gifts and talents to give back. Thom told the audience that he particularly enjoys singing many of the old hymns that so many of us know and love. Thom sang several of his favorite hymns. The audience was invited to join in. Thom introduced his wife Debbie who shared her riveting testimony of God s healing through several bouts of cancer and God s wonderful protection on September 11, Debbie was staying at a hotel located between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centers. She shared her harrowing experiences of fleeing the area. Debbie feels God had His loving arms around her and sent her an angel to guide her from the dangers of the attack.
