We hope you will feel at home worshiping with us. And come back to worship with us. Christmas is a season where we receive Christ, who is the light of the world. This is a season of light. It is so much more than just a time for giving and receiving presents. When we see colorful lights on Christmas trees and on houses, we Christians see the light Jesus brings to the world. And this is a light that is meant to be shared. As you listen to the Scriptures today, see the light that Jesus is for you, a light that makes people radiate with love and joy. During Christmas Time, we celebrate the Incarnation the Divine Word becoming flesh. In Evangelii gaudium, Pope Francis speaks of the devotions of the people as a kind of incarnation of their faith: Genuine forms of popular religiosity are incarnate, since they are born of the incarnation of Christian faith in popular culture. For this reason, they entail a personal relationship, not with vague spiritual energies or powers, but with God, with Christ, with Mary with the saints. These devotions are fleshy, they have a face. They are capable of fostering relationships and not just enabling escapism (90). The popular devotions associated with Christmas most especially visits to the manger scene can do just that: lead us to an encounter with Christ. Spread the good news that you heard here today to all your neighbors and friends. This is a season of miracles. Let us give thanks and rejoice in this season! God has come among us to dwell! May God dwell in your heart forevermore! 3 EVANGELIZATION THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Do not be too quick to condemn the man who no longer believes in God, for it is perhaps your own coldness and avarice, your mediocrity and materialism, your sensuality and selfishness that have killed his faith. 6 ST. GERALD PARISH, FARMINGTON, MI KNIGHTS CORNER Happy New Year to All; Latest Star Council Award Added to Knights Corner of Social Hall Happy New Year to all! May 2016 bring good health and peace to all our Knights and their loved ones. And may it bring our Council members the energy and strength to continue our charitable efforts and our service to others. For the new year s first six months the last half of the Council year we will have a real challenge to repeat as winners of the Star Council Award from the national K of C. We will need to recruit four more members, increase out insurance participation and complete a variety of service and charitable projects. So please get involved, especially if you have not done so in the past. The newly redesigned Star Council award for last year, , was recently installed on the wall in the Knights Corner of the Social Hall. Stop by and take a look. In addition, the national K of C awarded label pins commemorating the Star Council status to Patrick Rogers, the Grand Knight for the year, Program Director Tom McPhail and PGK Rich Smith whose recruiting efforts merited the Membership Director pin. PGK Bruce Roberts recently received some more State K of C raffle tickets. If you have sold yours, give him a call at Lots of good prizes will be won April 16 including the top one which features a six night hotel stay in Rome for two (not two weeks for one as previously reported), a Vatican tour, air fare and $4,000 in spending money. Bruce also is taking orders for a light weight jacket, perfect for spring and fall, in the Council color and with our logo. And he also has a supply of shirts and caps. January activities start with an Officers meeting on Jan. 5, a bus trip to the Fire Keepers casino outside Battle Creek on Jan. 6, the monthly membership meeting Jan. 19, a pancake breakfast for the parish on Jan. 24, and a Family Communion Mass on Jan. 31.
