FUMC is a Family Promise host church. As a host church, FUMC will provide lodging for one week at a time, up to four times a year, with three meals a day and caring hospitality. Volunteer Opportunities: July 22-July 28 Opportunities include: room set up on Sunday, July 22, room tear down on Saturday, July 28, providing meals, hospitality in the evenings, staying overnight in the YFC with the families. The family(ies) will be hosted in the YFC adult classroom wing (level two). 6 6 First Word fumctulsa.org REACH THE WORLD ON OUR DOORSTEP The Mission movement of the 20th century that gave us missionary heroes such as William Carey and Amy Carmichael, believed people were called by God to go. Urban legend has it that many of the called packed their belongings in a coffin, symbolizing their death to self, and commitment to the country to where they were sent. It is 2018, and the world has come to us. No longer do we travel by boats, pack our belongings in coffins, or even have to leave our own neighborhoods to share the good news with someone from another people group. Times have changed. But the urgency has not. God s people are still called to go. In 2018, places of liminality exist in our cities, where students from all parts of the world leave their homeland for a time, and gather among us for 1-4 years before returning home. Having left the confines of their culture and life as normal, many of these students are in a place of spiritual openness and curiosity. And they are our neighbors. The University of Tulsa has students from 76 countries, two thirds of which are from the 10/40 window. Some of the least reached people groups in the world are our actual neighbors. Isaiah 6:8 begs the question that God himself is asking: who will go across the world, across a language or cultural barrier, across the street. Then I heard the Lord asking, "Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?" May our answer always be: "Here I am. Send me." We welcome those who have a heart to serve. As a welcome desk attendant, you are the first impression people have as they enter the Youth and Family Complex. Duties include being a cheerful host, checking-in members and guests, answering questions, and guiding people where they need to go. Some of our schedule needs for welcome desk volunteers are from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, 2:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. on Thursdays. We will work with you to find the perfect schedule! Other areas for YFC volunteering include teaching a fitness class, coaching Upward Basketball or Cheerleading, joining the Upward Prayer Team, scorekeeping or refereeing at games, and being a camp counselor at our All-Star Sports Camp.
