1 ALUMNI NEWSLETTER January 23, 2019 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4 Happy New Year! I hope you each had a blessed Christmas and that your new year will be filled with much joy and good health. The founders of St. Peter 171 years ago, believed that not only was it important to have a place to worship, but it was equally important to educate their children on a daily basis in the Christian faith. So, in 1847 St. Peter Lutheran Church and School began. I don t know about you, but I always have to ask the WHY question. I have a need to understand the WHY behind the actions and events of the past. I do understand the need these German families felt to begin a church. Of course, they

2 needed a place to gather and worship God. But, WHY the need for a school? I believe the answer can be found in the two Bible verses listed above. The WHY is because God instructs us to train our children in His ways. What better way to do this (besides within the family) than through a Lutheran School? The founders of St. Peter believed this and through the grace of God, all these years later, St. Peter Lutheran Church and School continue to preach and teach God s word on a weekly and daily basis. How about you? Do your children or grandchildren have a need for a Lutheran education? How about your neighbor s children? The WHY is still true today. God is still telling us to Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it. (Proverbs 22:6) Your parents knew this to be true because they sent you to St. Peter. National Lutheran Schools Week will be celebrated by Lutheran Schools across the world the week of January 27 February 1. The theme this year is Real, Present, God, based on Psalm 46. For us at St. Peter, God is just as real and present in our lives as He was in the lives of the founders of St. Peter in To kick off Lutheran Schools Week we will have a Winter Wonderland Open House on Sunday, January 27. Tours will be given, teachers will be available to answer questions and meet with families from noon until 2:00 p.m. On Tuesday, February 5 th and Tuesday, March 19 th from 8:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. we will offer two opportunities for you to visit the classrooms while learning is taking place. Stop in at any time those two days for a tour. Hope to see you at one of our open houses. SCHOOL UPDATE

4 National Lutheran Schools Week will be celebrated January 27 February 1. St. Peter, along with Lutheran Schools across the country will be celebrating what makes Lutheran schools so special. Many activities have been planned centered around the theme: Real, Present, God based on Psalm 46. Our 7 th and 8 th Graders presented their Science Fair Projects earlier this month. They have been working on these since early in the school year. The students presented their projects to parents and the community in attendance at the Science Fair on January 10 th. What topic did you research for your project?

5 ALUMNI OPPORTUNITY The Wildcat Round-Up will take place on February 22 nd and 23 rd. Put this on your calendar now and plan to attend to help cheer on our Wildcats! Here s a great alumni opportunity: We are looking for at least 10 St. Peter Alumni to play basketball during half time at one of the St. Peter games on Saturday, February 23 rd during the Wildcat Round-Up. We d also love to have some cheerleaders cheering them on. Get some of your fellow alumni together and come play on the new gym floor. Are you a former basketball or cheerleading coach? You are welcome to come as well. Even if you don t want to play or cheer, come watch some of the games and cheer on your Wildcats!! CLASS OF 1969 Your class reunion committee has been working very hard to plan a great event for you to enjoy. Invitations will be sent out soon for the June 22, 2019 reunion. The day will include a meet and greet brunch held at St. Peter which will include a tour of the campus. A celebratory dinner will be held in the evening at Chandler s Chophouse in Schaumburg. Please contact me at with your updates, memories and contact information. Thank you. ALUMNI SIGHTINGS Natalie Jurgenson (Class of 2016) Natalie is a junior at Conant High School. She plays clarinet in the marching band. She s also playing club volleyball.

7 Jordan (class of 2014) and Elizabeth Mattas (class of 2016). Jordan is a freshman at Marquette University studying Psychology & Advertising. Elizabeth is a junior at St. Edwards High School. She manages the basketball team and also plays basketball. Brad Polen (class of 2010) and Isaiah Jimenez (class of 2010) Brad is a student at Judson University studying architecture. Isaiah currently lives in Orlando and works for Universal Studios. He may be moving to Los Angeles to work as an actor. A PEEK INTO THE PAST
