PRAY FOR THEM FOR OUR MILITARY FAMILY MEMBERS DEPLOYED IN COMBAT AREAS Lord, protect our military as they sacrifice for us; bless them and their families for their continuing selflessness. Please remember our military members, especially those deployed in combat areas, with prayers. If you would like to have a family member, who is currently deployed (military or civilian), listed in the bulletin for prayer, please call the parish office. MOVED BY MERCY: THE RESPECT LIFE collection is this weekend. We have been treated with mercy ourselves, and Jesus tells us to go and do likewise (Luke 10:37), giving us the roadmap of the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. Each person has a place in God s heart for all eternity (AL 168). Within this context, Pope Francis reminds us, we are called to protect our humanity, and this mean, in the first place, accepting it and respecting it as it was created (AL 56). May we always treat each person with merciful love and respect that affirms the gift of his or her life. Saint Luke Parish extends its deepest sympathy to the families of Benigna Hernandez de Cardenas and Ruth Anne McCloskey, grandmothers of parishioner Mark McCloskey and Kazumi Nishiyama, grandfather of Anika VanderHorst. Please pray for all our departed friends and relatives. Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time October 2, 2016 An awful thought. A scary reality. I can be good tomorrow, we say. I can deal with that injustice next week, next month, next year, when the time is right. The poor and hungry can surely wait. Well, Amos and Luke say otherwise. God is filled to the brim with pardon and mercy, with compassion, they say. All people that God loves are bound together. The truth is, it is possible to run out of time to do good, God says. Do not be indifferent! So, What good will I do today? What injustice can I address this week?
