2 Page 2 Student Ministries Update November 2017 Refuge defined by The Oxford American Dictionary as shelter from pursuit or danger or trouble; a place giving this. As a youth group, we have strived to live up to our name, and during the church wide study of the armor of God (Standing Firm) God has been at work in the hearts of our youth and also in the hearts of the volunteers. As we have been following the church wide study, students have been challenged to look eternally at their spiritual walk, and have had to begin taking ownership for their own armor and the application of each piece in their daily lives. Our prayers are that the hallways of LHS, LMS, OHS, CHS, and SEM would be changed by the courage of newly fitted soldiers, and that our students would not be deceived by the lies of this world but be a beacon of light into the ever present darkness they are trying to navigate. Overall, God has been at work in His Refuge, and we greatly appreciate the prayers and support our church family continually pours out to this ministry. The 60+ students and 17 volunteers are standing firm in the strength and on the truth of our Heavenly Father! -Jess McHargue Parkview Helps Rock of Salvation Baptist Church Move Forward Rock of Salvation is a Southern Baptist Hispanic church that started in Lexington in the past few years. They began with support from a church in eastern Colorado who had connection to the original planter with encouragement from Doug Lee, the church planter for Oregon Trail Baptist Association at the time. Our deacons and trustees recently agreed to let them use the refuge for worship on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings. Pastor Felix Zaldivar is a trained pastor from Honduras and has been leading them for the past 14 months and is currently mentoring four men for spiritual leadership. He is working to help the church prioritize evangelism and discipleship. We are excited to help a sister church and look forward to how the Lord will use our relationship with them. As the winter weather season comes upon us we would like to inform you as to where you can check to see any closing information for Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights. In Case of Closings due to weather check our website at or KRVN Radio! 3 Page 3 We are now back in Brazil and almost settled into a routine. Let me give you some brief updates and prayer requests: We were very well received at church. João Vitor and his wife, Larissa, were very anxious for our arrival so we could begin Bible studies. The studies have gone well and on Sunday he brought two friends and the wife of one of them. They seem interested in Bible studies, as well. So it looks like the Lord is building up His church. A couple of weeks ago we had a business meeting and were able to resolve some longstanding issues, mostly in a favorable fashion. I ha ve b e g u n t eachi n g apologetics at the local Baptist seminary. Pray that the students would grasp what I teach. It is very complex. Next week I participate in a Theology Conference. Pray for a good turnout and for grace to lecture on such a controversial subject. I am writing an adult Sunday School quarterly, which is a synopsis of Israel s OT history. Pray for me as I finish it, as well as for the process of getting it into print. This is my first venture into getting something published. I pray that it will be useful for the churches. The biggest prayer request we have is for US$ 35,000 so we can get 10 new titles into print at EBR. Things are looking up for the Press, but we don t have enough new titles and need a financial hand-up to get these books in print. Pray for the Lord s provision. If you want to help, you can send a contribution to Baptist Mid-Missions for the Regular Baptist Press of Brazil fund. The Lord sure keeps us busy, but we are glad to serve him. We thank you for your faithful prayers and support. We re His for Brazil, Mark and Anita Swedberg Why Not Take This Step Soon? What It Means To Be a Member? At Parkview we recognize the value of intentional membership. We ask you to commit to membership for several reasons. Biblical Reason: Christ is committed to the church and intends believers to take their place in it. This is a step that allows you to declare your faith in Christ and embrace your place in His church locally. Practical Reason: It defines who can be counted on as we embrace Jesus mission together through our service & support. Parkview. Membership demonstrates shared commitment as a spiritual family. Personal Reason: It encourages spiritual growth by strengthening the commitment to the relationships that help us go deeper in Christ. What Is Expected of Me As A Member At Parkview we never ask our members to do more than the Bible clearly teaches. We only expect our members to do what the Bible expects every Christian to do. These responsibilities are spelled in the Membership Covenant. Membership Process A person may become a member of Parkview after he or she has: Given clear evidence of genuine conversion to Christ Been baptized by immersion at some point after conversion Completed Discovering Parkview class Turned in a membership request & signed a membership covenant Been presented & affirmed for membership by the congregation. The next opportunity to take this step for Membership is at our Congregational meeting on Sunday, December 3rd. Congregational Meeting, December 3, 2017 Each year in December the Parkview family gathers to affirm the ministry budget for the next year. Every ministry team prays, evaluates and dreams about what they believe God wants for the next year of ministry. Those dreams are prioritized and submitted to the trustees who prayerfully compile them for presentation to the larger family. The final budget will represent both good stewardship and Christ-honoring faith. Copies will be available in the foyer the last of November. At the same meeting the nominating team will present their recommendations for elected positions for the next year and new members will be affirmed. All are welcome to attend. Only members however, may vote on recommendations put before the church family. If you are unsure of your membership status contact the church office. Watch for time & details in the bulletin and next months newsletter.

Nov 8: Solid Rock Night Nov 15: U Can If U Care (Bring cereal for the food pantry) Nov 22 NO AWANA (Happy Thanksgiving) Nov 29: Get ready Store Next Week! Come join us for AWANAS! Wednesday Nights 6:30-8:00 pm Come Join us on Sunday mornings at 10:45 for ages 3 yrs to 5th grade. Greetings from Next Generation Kids! Can you believe we ve already made it to November? Time flies and the Christmas merchandise is already filling the shelves! We have been moving right along on Sunday mornings through the New Testament and have been focusing our attention of the Person and work of Christ. We have passed the 2-year mark on our journey through the entire Bible and it has been neat to see how the entire Old Testament finds its ultimate culmination in Jesus! Our hope as leaders in Next Gen is that your children will sense how amazing God s Word is and want to dive in on their own. With that being said, if your child doesn t have a Bible of their own that is an easy to read version, we would love to give them one and would ask that you let a leader know! We are ultimately here to help you as parents bring up your kids to love and respect God and are open to any ideas you may have to help us do so. This month as we continue through The Gospel Project we will be looking at the latter part of Jesus ministry on earth on His trek to the cross and seek to highlight just how amazing his sacrifice on our behalf was! Thank you as always for the privilege of ministering to your kids on Sundays, they are a blessing! -James Morton
5 Page 5 Food Pantry December Meal We Need Help! We would appreciate volunteers to make taco soup and cornbread for this years meal we will be serving in conjunction with December's food pantry and Christmas shopping event on December 15, If you would like to volunteer to make a couple batches of soup and cornbread, please let Hayley Huyser know at or by at rhhuyser@gmail.com. All donations need to be at the church or given to Hayley by December 14, If you wish to volunteer, we ask that you freeze the soup in freezer ziplock bags and that the cornbread is made into muffins and frozen as well. The cornbread is up to the volunteer, but we like Jiffy! Taco Soup Recipe 1 lb of ground beef; 2 cloves of garlic minced; 1/2 cup diced onions. *in a large pot, brown the hamburger with the minced garlic and onions. Drain any fat THEN add the following ingredients: 1 packet of taco seasoning; 1 can red kidney beans; 1 can rotel; 2 cans corn (only one can drained); 1 cup tomato juice. *bring soup to a boil and then let simmer for 30 minutes. Allow to cool before freezing. Thank you so much for assisting us with this ministry. The guests appreciated having a hot meal to enjoy while shopping for Christmas presents! Sharing a meal together allows us to share Jesus. Biblical Authority Though there is great variety in how God has made us, we are united in our faith relationship with Him as Christians. We also share some core biblical values as his followers in the Parkview family. These values help us promote and pursue unity with each other as we follow Jesus together. One of our core values in the Parkview family is Biblical Authority. We embrace God s word as our authority for life. 2Timothy 3:13 says All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 that the man of God may be adequate, fully equipped for every good work. When facing a challenge, making a decision or determining plans we should always consider God s word. A good question to ask would be Does His word have anything to say is not a program or an event. It is the flow of Christ from one person to another. Sue May will be sharing about Assisted Living at Plum Creek Healthcare. She visits twice a week, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Exciting things are happening. LIFE Ministry blessed a gentleman with puzzles. Through doing this I was able to establish a talking relationship that took a year to get started. He is slowly letting me talk to him about the Lord. HIs family visits him on a limited basis. They are reluctant to help him with needs that he may have. One of the puzzles we gave him was a Thomas Kincade. IN the past he was refused in putting his puzzle pictures up. This crushed him. Through our prayer and others praying, this moved the administration to allow him to have the Thomas Kincade puzzle picture displayed prominently. Prayer does work! He now allows me to talk to him about Jesus. Please continue to pray that we will have opportunities to share the gospel with him and others. Please pray for D.H. Thank you for praying. Sue May
6 Page 6 Day of Caring 2017 Christmas Impact 2017 But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8 Purpose: Meet people s basic needs and show them the love of Jesus Christ through our actions and building personal relationships. Through relationship building, we can then share the truth and love of Jesus Christ. Our ultimate goal is to meet their spiritual poverty need, that only Jesus Christ is the answer. Some of the positives we took from the Day of Caring were: 30 different projects were completed in the community Some of the projects we worked on were: building and installation of two new trailer porches, installing two new storm doors on a house, winterized several house and trailer windows, repaired a trailer roof, stained a fence, tree removal, pruned numerous trees, removed a hedge, dug a trench, installed a furnace filter, washed over 130 windows on 8 different projects, trimmed numerous shrubs and bushes, mowed lawns, removed weeds, cleaned garages, planted some new flowers, and played together with children in the park. Numerous other projects were also completed. About 190 volunteers were involved in some part of the day of caring and as a church we got to know new people in our congregation as we worked together Our workers were able to serve members of our own Parkview family as well as the community of Lexington We had 10 families who worked together with their children as a family on various projects There were young children as well as volunteers in their 80 s who worked on the Day of Caring There were many opportunities to share the Lord with people that we did projects for Many of the people who we did work with, came to the church and shared with many of us at the celebration meal at the end of the day Our hospitality/food committee prayed for our project all day long, visited a nursing home, and served a celebration meal to around 200 people God blessed us with a beautiful day and many blessings through out the day and leading up to the project. We want to thank God first and everyone else for their efforts and commitment to the Day of Caring. Reach our Community to Impact our World! 7 Page 7 The View Pastor s log November 2017 WE IS BETTER THAN ME. Jesus has been driving this deeper in my heart in recent months. While the image of the Marlboro man conquering the day with only his horse is romantic it falls far short of God s best for us. When unloading our Ryder truck on Lars birthday in 1995, I felt great excitement and insecurity. Excitement to be here; concern about being good enough to serve you well. Could I reach the lost? Could I help people grow? Could I help the church become better, bigger, more, everything we have come to value in our country. Without realizing it I was more concerned about me than we. I found both God and you were patient while I grew up as a pastor. Thank you! Last night at the AWANA Trunk or Treat Night what I saw was beautiful. We reach many families outside of our church with this ministry, I wanted to be there to get to know some of them better and show support to our incredible servants of Christ. I saw a set up that took someone a lot of work, food being served with joy, small groups, students dressed creatively to share smiles and sugar and the weekly volunteers eager to show Jesus love to the families we serve. WOW! WE IS BETTER THAN ME. I met many and had longer conversations with over a half a dozen people I hadn t met before. One man and wife brought a car to help hand out candy. He believes enough in what we are doing that he wanted to help though he hasn t joined us for worship yet, I invited him to cross that line. As I spoke with others I asked if they had a church home and ended up inviting them to join us when they shared that they didn t. I hope to see them some Sunday. I hope you will be ready to welcome and serve then too. I am certain that what I saw last night makes Jesus smile.. The secret of becoming a great church is to Follow Jesus together. That is what I saw. Thank you to each of you who have taken up His call. WE IS BETTER THAN ME Philippians 1:27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel If you are reading this I hope you can see that Jesus has connected you with us for a reason. My hope is that you will never stop deepening your relationship with Jesus, His Family & His Mission. None of us can do everything, but when each of us embraces a place to grow and a place to serve in relationship with others because of our faith in Jesus, incredible things can happen. Jesus actually works in us and through us. I see that happening in deeper ways and it excites me. I hope you can see it too. I often wonder if anyone ever reads these, if you are reading it I want to thank you being here, encourage you that you have a life changing place and invite you to take your next step in deepening your relationship with Jesus, with Us and with His Mission.
