1 FEBRUARY 2017 The View Special events this month: No Awana on Wednesday, Feb 15th. Youth will meet that night in their small groups. Haiti Mission Trip Training Feb 12th & Feb 15th. Haiti Mission Trip leaves on Friday, Feb 17th and returns on the next Friday, Feb 24th. Refuge Food Pantry the third Saturday of the month Haiti 2017 The Parkview Haiti 2017 Mission Team is preparing for their upcoming trip to the Caribbean island of Haiti with Star of Hope. They leave Feb 17 th 24 th and will be visiting and working with the school/church project at Jeanton. This is where the 2015 team laid sod for a new soccer field and painted their property s cinderblock walls. This year s team will be involved with hurricane repairs and clean up left from the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew which struck Oct. 4 th last fall. The 9 member team is Cyndia Boesch, Eric Casper, Larry Copelin, Rex Hunt, Jeff McCandless, Julie Myers, Joann Reiners, and LaRee Stephens, and Josh Werger. They will be able to reconnect with the teachers and students, encouraging them in their learning and to pursue Jesus. You can be a part of this mission trip without leaving by being a part of the support team that sends them. Here are three ways that you can participate and come alongside them. Please pray for the team as they are preparing, packing, and training in these days before departure and for God s strength and guidance while they are in Haiti. If you would like to be a prayer partner to a specific team member please contact any of the team or Tony Schroeder to be included. All Things Women meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm Save The Dates! If:Gathering April 21st & 22nd Love India Gathering March 5 at 7:00 Funds are still needed for travel and supplies for the repair projects. If you wish to contribute donations can be given to Pam in the church office, just make any checks out to Parkview Church and write Haiti trip in the memo line. Small groups have an opportunity to come alongside the team and sponsor packing a suitcase of need that the team will take with them. Part of their mission is to take with them items that the school children and schools can use. Each team member will be checking one suitcase for their own personal items and also check a second bag full of donated items for Star of Hope kids. Your small group leader has received an with specific instructions regarding this so ask them if your group could help.

2 Page 2 Student Ministries Update! Mexico Mission Trip We re headed back to Ensenada this Summer! This has become one of the major highlights of what our student ministry does each year, so I m excited that we re able to go back again this year. It always proves to be a challenging & beneficial trip for our students in their walk with Jesus. Through the trainings, trip and debrief each student and adult leader will be pushed to trust Christ at a deeper level and step out in faith to live for Him in new and exciting ways as well. Trip Dates: July 14 th 22 nd Application Deadline: March 1 st Middle School Camp Hey all Middle Schoolers we re on for Super Summer this Summer! At Super Summer students will have tons of fun during the wild and crazy BLAST games, the rock climbing walls, the blob and various other outdoor adventures. They will also experience God through great worship, challenging teaching, and through our church group time each night. Super Summer is an exciting camp where students will meet new friends, strengthen friendships within our group, and be encouraged to take steps in their relationship with Jesus. 3 The Swedbergs Highlights: 2016 Annual Report This year, Anita and I celebrated 30 years of married bliss by traveling to Europe. We visited 11 countries and the memories will last a lifetime. We returned to the Igreja Batista da Bibla in Carapicuiba, a work started by Graham Foran and Jeff Traver. We ve been working there since 2010, except for a brief stint away from it in 2015, to help Roberto Coelho. A young man by the name of Hugo showed up on a Sunday while I was on furlough. He was from an Assembly of God church, but had read a book on Jonathan Edwards s resolution and became convicted that he wasn t in the proper church. So he started looking and found ours. He has a fairly good-sized group of friends that listen to and are influenced by him. I suggested we start a Bible study with them and he quickly agreed. Last group a friend from the group has decided to join our church. Hugo s sister and possibly his mother will come. Besides Hugo, I have been having a Bible study with another young man. I think he may join our church soon. I am also setting up a Bible study with his family members. It s a privilege to serve the Lord in Brazil. Dave Ramsey s Financial Peace University Learn God s ways of handling money with Dave Ramsey s Financial Peace University! This class will walk you through the basics of budgeting, dumping debt, planning for the future, and much more. This is a great way to share ideas, be encouraged, and stay motivated. Classes meet for nine weeks and are led by Roy & Glenda Spicer. One Financial Peace University membership per family is all you need to get started in a class. You re invited to attend one lesson of Financial Peace University Free! This class will be offered on February 12th at 6:00 pm here at Parkview. If you decide to be a part of the class the cost will be $80 per family. For more information contact the church office at It may seem from the name of this ministry that our main purpose is to feed the mouths of those people in our community who have very little, but ultimately we are building relationships and feeding souls through this ministry as well. Within the past few months, we have been offering prayer time for our guests as they wait for their food to be prepared and it is being utilized by several of our guests with specific needs and concerns. Not only did we serve 112 families by distributing 198 bags of food, but we also had 27 volunteers participate on January 18th. Some of the volunteers were regulars and vital members of our mission, however there were several fresh faces from our congregation who served and we are so grateful. When we began volunteering for the Food Pantry, our hope was to help bring some joy into other's lives and to let them know they were loved. One of God's lesson we learned by volunteering for the Food Pantry is that we leave the YAC Saturday morning having the reverse to be true...we the servants are filled with joy and love because we are part of something so awesome. If you are looking for a ministry to be part of, we urge you to join the fun, the prayers, the laughter, and the support that we provide and receive at the Food Pantry.

Come join us for AWANAS! Wednesday Nights 6:30-8:00 pm Greetings from Next Generation Kids! 2017 is well under way and we are moving right along Sunday mornings through the Bible. After having taken a detour to study events surrounding the birth of Christ in December, we resumed studying the work of God through the prophets all of January and are now looking at the events surrounding the exile to Babylon. Heading in to February, we will be focusing on Daniel and how his faithful love for the Lord allowed him to do amazing things while surrounded by a pagan culture. Most kids are familiar with the stories of Daniel in the lion s den and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego being thrown into the fiery furnace, but not many realize how much of the book of Daniel points forward to the Messiah. As we continue through the Bible via The Gospel Project, it is our hope that the kids of Parkview sense how amazing the whole Bible is and how it s all about Jesus! The leaders of Next Gen are blessed to serve you and your families on Sunday mornings during second service and hope you are blessed as well! Kids Helping Kids Our Kids Helping Kids project for 2016 came to a close and the outpouring of generosity from our students was nothing less than remarkable! Students at Parkview raised a combined total of $1503 to support the charitable organization Water 4! Through online giving and students bringing in over $800 of change, we were able to provide the means for a community to dig a well to access clean drinking water! Thank you for your zeal to accomplish amazing things through the Lord!

5 other as we follow Jesus together. Core Values Loving Others Though there is great variety in how God has made us, we are united in our faith relationship with Him as Christians. We also share some core biblical values as his followers in the Parkview family. These values help us promote and pursue unity with each One of our core values is loving others. We are determined to love people as Christ commands. This love should be genuine and practical. In John 13:35 Jesus says By this all men will know that you are My disciples, of you have love for one another. He repeats in John 15:12, This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Love, real love impacts what we do and how we do it. Love for people should be a defining mark of who are as a church family. Love is the goal of our spiritual growth and the bond that unites us as we serve God together. (1Tim 1:5) When facing a challenge or decision we must ask, What is the loving way to engage this situation? Love does not always give in, but it seeks what is ultimately best. Love allows us to accept each other as we are AND to encourage each other to move forward in holiness and spiritual growth. 6 Word Of God Speak We re in the middle of a wonderful Sunday morning message series focused on the Word of God The Holy Bible, called For the Bible tells me So?. Words are very important to God, He used them as the very basis and fabric of all creation, God said let there be., and In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. The Bible is filled with thousands of references to His Word and it s beauty, comfort, instruction, peace, joy and love for us, His children. The Bible is God, speaking directly to us through His chosen prophets and scribes. It has been jealously guarded and meticulously copied and handed down through thousands of years so that we too could intimately know the God who created us. It is living and active, and is able to speak to each one of us in a way that is uniquely personal. Please don t take it for granted, or set it aside for less eternal things. Open it up again, and discover the wonder that is the Word. Scott The Christmas party was fun and had a great turnout. My dear lady slept through the first half, even as noisy as it was. She is blind and mainly bed bound except for meals or special activities. The lift is used to move her from the bed to the wheelchair. The last half of the party let her know she had gifts and she felt each gift. When first visiting her, she could say yes or no. Now she is speaking a sentence. I read scripture to her and we visit. She knows the Lord. Several Ladies donated calendars. Staff try to hang calendars in each room. Thank you, very much appreciated. A friend passed away Christmas Eve day. Saw him the Thursday before, looked pale but sleeping comfortably. We will miss him. They thought a lot of Lori and Noelle. His wife enjoyed our visits as well. He was a kind, quiet man that enjoyed John Deere tractors and music. The week of the Christmas party a new resident arrived with nothing. We were able to help her with clothing, two comfortable outfits and therapeutic skin cream. What a joy to help someone in need. The afghans, lap blankets, snowflakes and other crafts were so appreciated. Thank you all so much. We appreciate your prayers for LIFE Ministry. Sincerely in Christ Barb Chase

7 Pastor s log February 2017 The View 2017 is off and running. How is the race going for you? As a church we have already celebrated 3 baptisms and our Small group leaders are connecting more deeply in intentional discipleship relationships. Through one of my kids, I have watched enough distance racing to learn some things about running. One of them is the power of the pack. Those who run together in training hold up the best when the pressures come. It has become sadly predictable to watch people try to run alone over the years. There are many reasons for this. It has felt right to each one as they explained to me why they didn t have the time or need for a small group. Some will only engage if they get to be in charge. The reasons really haven t mattered. In the end, their spiritual passion either falls flat or fills with self-centered pollution. PLEASE DON T LET THAT BE PART OF YOUR STORY! Watching this is a core reason for why we have called every small group leader to connect with 2 or three others for mutual encouragement and spiritual growth. I believe this will significantly improve both the quality of our groups, the longevity of our leaders and our ability to birth new groups as we continue reaching new people. It has become sadly predictable to watch people try to run alone over the years. What about you? Have you experienced the power of spiritual relationships with others in God s family yet? If not, I would love to help you find a place to connect. We have many great places for this to happen. You owe it to yourself, to your family, to those you work with, to your future. Does it take time? Yes, but so does physical exercise, healthy eating and mental health. Many in our age complain that poor eating and exercise habits are costing our country Billions in medical costs. We are increasingly hearing about the multifaceted benefits of intentional physical health. How much more important is your long-term spiritual health? One key to that is connecting in intentional spiritual relationships. Don t let any more of the year race past you without getting in a pack with others who can help improve your race. I m excited to see the fruit God brings from those who are packing together as they follow Jesus. I d love for you to be part of that. John Visit Our Website at
