2 Dear Members and Friends of Trinity, It seems like the new year just started and we are already at the month of February. It has been over a month since the celebration of the Lord's birth at Christmas. The days are getting longer and the average temperature has turned the corner and is beginning to rise. Although there may still be plenty of punch left in winter, somehow February reminds us that spring is once again just a couple of months away. Of course the month of February also marks Valentines Day. I am sure we will once again hear stories of individuals falling in love, becoming engaged, or getting married. Love is in the air. There is another type of love in the air that is not tied to romantic love at all. This type of love is of such a nature that it lasts throughout the entire year. In fact it lasts a lifetime. It's the love the Savior has for each and every one of us. It's the love that caused the Savior to go to the cross and die in our place so our sins could be forgiven. You will not find a love on earth equal to the deep love the Lord has in His heart for you and for me. Romantic valentine love comes and goes for many people. It is quite something really. The love the Savior has for sinners comes to us each and every day, but it never goes. His love for us is forever. My hope is that love will be in the air for each of us every day for the rest of our lives. That we will all ponder regularly how near and dear and loved we are to our Lord. 3 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. The month of February brings with it the Season of Lent. What is Lent about? In order to find out, we can look at the first day of the Lenten Season known as Ash Wednesday. On Ash Wednesday, we as a church, pay special attention toward the act of confession. From this, you could say that from Ash Wednesday an important theme of the Lenten Season is confession. Confession is not only an important part of Ash Wednesday and Lent, but of the entire Christian life. Confession can be an intimidating act because through it we admit to others and ourselves that we are not perfect! Through confession we admit we are sinners! But do not let this keep you from confessing your sins! For, in Scripture, we are promised that our Lord hears our confession with a loving ear. Not only this, but our Lord has promised to reply to our confession with his own words of forgiveness. This is a promise that will never end, because our God is, faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This Lenten Season do not be timid, but boldly confess your sins to your God. For your God hears your words and will reply to you with the forgiveness of all your sins. 4 Persecution St. Paul knew persecution all too well. After being beaten and thrown in prison, he fled Phillipi and went to Thessalonica. Persecution was also a problem there, so Paul left and went to Berea. Paul knew the Christians in Thessalonica were still being persecuted so he wrote a letter to them to encourage them to remain steadfast in the face of such persecution by taking comfort and hope in God s grace. For Christ is their hope of salvation now and at His second coming when He will rescue all who trust in God s grace. Everyone loves receiving greeting cards especially our Trinity members who are shut-ins. The Trinity Christian Board of Education invites high-school age members to our first Christian Greetings from Trinity event. On Sunday, February 8 th at 9:15 a.m., we invite these members to meet us in the Sunday school room under the bell tower. We will be preparing Valentine s Day greeting cards for our members who are home-bound or in assisted-living homes. Please bring items that could be used to add a personal touch to the cards, which will be provided. Please text or call Kevin if you d like to help. In our efforts to tell others about Christ and what He has done for us, how He died and rose so that we may have ever lasting life in heaven, we must first equip ourselves with the correct knowledge of what this means. Through attending church, hearing and reading God s word regularly, receiving the Lord s Supper and attending Bible Study, we receive the tools necessary to tell others about Christ. When we tell others about Christ we may get made fun of or ridiculed or get strange looks, but we don t have to worry about being thrown in prison like St. Paul. However, we do have that same assurance of knowing that when Christ comes again, we too can take comfort in knowing He will rescue us Christians today who also trust in God s grace. Dear Lord be with us. Help and guide us when talking to others about you and what Christ and the Holy Spirit have done for us. Be with all of us Lord, all the days of our lives, until that day when you come again to take us home to be with You in heaven. Amen! 4

5 Pre-school News What are we working on in February?? The color they will be working on is pink. The shape is a heart. They will be reading about Jesus s miracles. The prayer is: Our hands we fold, our heads we bow, for food and drink, we thank Thee now. Snow Angel Christian Connie welcomed everyone to our January meeting. We welcomed Tina, Karen and Jill for being our guest. Shelly had our opening devotion and prayer. Angie had are Federwitz prayer, faith promise. Mites were collected and update on our mite grants were given by Connie. The Secretary and Treasurer s reports were approved. SWD LWML Winter Getaway is February 6-7, 2015, at the Marriot in Racine. There is a $70.00 registration fee. Ingathering is prizes for Bingo for Lincoln Lutheran of Racine. The keynote speaker is Karen Sue Murdy. The Theme is walkinging...empowered by the Spirit. LWML SWD will be holding two Spring leadership Workshops on Saturday, March 21 and Saturday, March 1 and 28, 2015 at Peace Lutheran Neenah, WI. The 36th Biennial Convention will be in Des Moines Iowa, June 25-28, The dime project was collected to send $50.00 for Vicar s graduation gift. The remaining money will be sent to Alvina Federwitz for Ebola emergency materials. Money is due for our quarterlies. Please give $5.00 to Janice at the February meeting. A Prayer Service will be held on March 14, 2015 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Sheboygan. The women at St. Peter in Hilbert are collecting greeting cards. Bring them to CWF and give them to Shelly. Bring ideas for Lutheran High Auction Basket. Shelly had our closing devotion. The program for the night was review of the constitution. Mary Lou Neuman 5

8 Christian Funeral: A Christian Funeral for Elaine Merkel took place on Monday, January 26, at 11:00am here at Trinity. Pastor Bergelin officiated. Burial took place in the church cemetery. May God provide His comfort to the Merkel Family. South Wisconsin District Missions: Free at Last Ministry: Through the ministry of Rev. Afram Ikanih and layman Patrick Batom, the Gospel of Jesus is setting men free from slavery to sin. Through bible Studies, worship and counseling at the House of Correction, as well as assisting ex-offenders through Mission of Christ Congregation, these men are realizing how to be truly free at last. The February Special offering will go to Lutheran High School. Lutheran High is Located in Sheboygan and our congregation is an association member. Scrip is a great fund-raiser for Trinity. Scrip are gift cards from stores that you use to pay for your merchandise. You simply purchase store cards from Trinity. (Walmart, Target, Subway, etc...) Each store gives Trinity a percentage of our sales. Scrip is sold before and after our Worship services. Thank you to all our current customers. If you have never purchased Scrip, please consider giving it a try. New Evening Worship Time At the Voter s Meeting on January 25th, the members voted to change all evening worship services, with the exception of Christmas, to 6:30 p.m. Christmas Worship Times will remain the same. We have secured 28 tickets for the Admirals game at the Bradley Center on Friday Evening, February 27 at 7:00 p.m. The bus will leave at 4:30 p.m. After the hockey game there is a Billy Currington Concert. Billy Currington is a Country Singer. The cost is $45.00/person. 14 and under is $40.00 which includes the ticket, bus ride and the concert. There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the narthex. SAY YES TO MICHIGAN AUTUMN GETAWAY: Trinity has planned a September Say Yes to Michigan Autumn Getaway. All our invited to attend! MAUNDY THURSDAY On Maundy Thursday we are going to be celebrating the Passover similar to how Jesus and his disciples celebrated the Passover on Maundy Thursday. The meal is called a Seder Meal. The food prepared will be similar to how it was prepared for the Last Supper. The meal will be made as authentic as possible. The meal will be served at 5:15pm. Following the meal we will have our Maundy Thursday Worship Service which will conclude with the celebration of the Lords Supper We invite all of our Congregation to share in this experience. So we can properly prepare enough meals, a reservation sheet will be on the table in the Narthex. Information is on the table in the Narthex or you may call LHS at Lutheran High Dinner Auction Saturday, April 18 More information to follow There is a story of driver who was in a hurry and was right on the bumper of the car ahead of him. The first car s driver was getting nervous when he realized the stoplight ahead had turned yellow. He stopped instead of pushing it, and the second car driver, of course, was incensed with anger. He honked his horn, made hand gestures, and started screaming inappropriate words. Then, it happened: a tap on the window of the second car by a policeman. He ordered the driver out of the car and handcuffed him before putting him in the back of the squad car. After looking up the driver s record and seeing that he had no record, the policeman released the driver. The driver asked why all the fuss and the policeman replied, I pulled up behind you and saw your bumper stickers that read: WWJD? What Would Jesus Do? and Follow me to Sunday School. It also has the chrome-plated fish symbol on the trunk. By the way you were acting, I thought you had surely stolen that car. What do your actions say about you? If someone followed you around all day, would they know you were a Christian? I ask myself that question sometimes, like when I miss devotion time or Bible study. When I get upset over a trivial issue, and my body language is not what it should be. Or when I get excited to hear the latest piece of juicy gossip. I think you get the idea; it is easy to fall into practices that make us look like non-christians at times. What does your imaginary bumper sticker say and is it a true Your Bumper Sticker? reflection of your beliefs? I was blessed to see two alumni back in our building working out with the basketball team recently. I talked with them for a short time, and they both exemplified what a Lutheran High graduate should be. They were there to support their team. That s right. The Crusaders are still their team, and they wanted to help. It is like that wherever I go in Sheboygan County. I am pleased to run into area LHS graduates who tell me they really appreciate the school and the opportunities they received while attending here. Parents proudly proclaim, My children went to Lutheran High and they had a great experience. It provided a place to grow in their Christian faith. Does anything else really matter other than faith development? If you know someone who would benefit from the education we provide at Lutheran High, please send them our way. We would love to share with them what makes LHS the right choice for their children. They will be happy to have a Sheboygan Lutheran Shield window sticker on their car and know how to truly represent what being a Crusader is all about! In Christian service, Paul W.
