Gerald Clement Daughters of St. Paul Our Daughters of St. Paul celebrated the 100th Anniversary of their foundation and renewed their vows on Sunday at the 11:30 Mass. We give thanks to God for the Daughters and all consecrated religious for their witness of poverty, chastity and obedience; virtues we are all called to live but which the religious live in a radical way. Please join me in congratulating our Sisters for all they work to evangelize through the media. A big thank you to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for organizing a wonderful reception afterward and for all those who came to wish the Sisters well. Pro-Creation A human person is both a body and a soul. The parents, through conception, contribute their genetic material to the body of the new person and God creates the soul out of nothing. The soul is infused into the body at the moment of conception and this new human person will live forever. It is God s desire that all people live with Him in heaven, but because we are made in his image and likeness, He allows us the free will to cooperate or not in His plan of love. The willful destruction of an innocent human life is a grave sin that cries out to God for justice. We must all work to help others see the dignity of every human life from its very beginning. Thank you to all those who participated in the March for Life and prayed for an end to abortion. O God, by the preaching of your apostle Paul you have caused the light of the Gospel to shine throughout the world: Grant, we pray, that we, having his wonderful conversion in remembrance, may show ourselves thankful to you by following his holy teaching; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. WE WELCOME THROUGH THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Gabriel Edward Eubank Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you. - St. Thomas Aquinas God s love does not distinguish between the infant in the mother s womb or the child or the youth or the adult or the older person. In each one God sees His image and likeness. Human life is a manifestation of God and His glory. Pope Benedict XVI

4 January 24, 2016 TODAY'S READINGS First Reading: Ezra read from the book of the law of God to the assembled people. They understood and accepted the law (Nehemiah 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10). Gospel: While attending worship in the Nazarean synagogue, Jesus reads from the prophet Isaiah and declares himself to be the fulfillment of the prophecy (Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21). Monday: Tuesday: Wednesday: Thursday: Friday: Saturday: Sunday: READINGS FOR THE WEEK Acts 22:3-16 or 9:1-22; Ps 117:1bc, 2; Mk 16: Tm 1:1-18 or 9:1-22; Ps 24:7-10; Mk 3: Sm 7:4-17; Ps 89:4-5, 27-30; Mk 4: Sm 7:18-19, 24-29; Ps 132:1-5, 11-14; Mk 4: Sm 11:1-4a, 5-10a, 13-17; Ps 51:3-7, 10-11; Mk 4: Sm 12:1-7a, 10-17; Ps 51:12-17; Mk 4:35-41 Jer 1:4-5, 17-19; Ps 71:1-6, 15, 17; 1 Cor 12:31 13:13 [13:4-13]; Lk 4:21-30 SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Third Sunday in Ordinary Time; Catholic Schools Week The Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle; Week of Prayer for Christian Unity ends Tuesday: Saints Timothy and Titus Wednesday: Saint Angela Merici Thursday: Saint Thomas Aquinas Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary Sunday: Monday: ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT What a beautiful time of year to remind us that Jesus did not come to us on a throne, but in silence with only His Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, His father Joseph, and some shepherds. He was born in a stable; lacking the comforts most new babies have. He is still here 2,000 years later, in silence, hidden in the Sacred Host. What a truly special and humble way Jesus has chosen to stay with us. When we see Jesus hidden in the Sacred Host we can begin to see Him in all other human beings. He reminds us that we are never alone in our earthly struggles and that He will correct our human weaknesses and help us to grow in love and holiness. Think of spending just one hour per week with Our Lord. Sign-up sheets for a new session running from February through April are in the back of the church. Adoration is on Wednesdays from 12:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., concluding with a Holy Hour. For more information call Mary Stier at DIVINE MERCY CENACLE The Divine Mercy Cenacle meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 10 A.M. in the St. Joachim Room to experience the splendor of our Catholic Faith through Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and The Diary of St. Faustina, using a formation manual written by the Marians of the Immaculate Conception and Dr. Bryan Thatcher. I am saying this that you may constantly unite yourself with Me through love, for this is the goal of the life of your soul. This act is an act of the will. Know that a pure soul is humble. When you lower and empty yourself before My majesty, I then pursue you with My graces and make use of My omnipotence to exalt you. (Jesus to St. Faustina, Diary 576) JESUS I TRUST IN YOU!
