3 OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE PARISH COUNCIL ELECTION RESULTS- Congratulations to our parishioners who were elected to the parish council! Elected to a three-year term: Lou Cariola, Jeanine Donato-Stoddard, Betty Dubois, Pat Pretsch, Ron Weber Elected to a one-year term: Paul DeGiacomo and Anne Stokes We thank them all for their willingness to serve our parish in this way and we support them in this ministry. We would also like to express our great thanks to those who are completing their terms on the council: Bill Dubois, Karen Gavin, Paul Ibsen, Diane Terkelson, Trudy Unger They contributed so much to the council and we were blessed to have them serve the parish in this way. CAPITAL CAMPAIGN- As we have reported in the past few weeks, a capital campaign will soon begin that will help us to address important needs within our parish, including major maintenance repairs and upgrades and, just as importantly, evangelization and faith formation initiatives. We would like to strengthen our Good Shepherd program, which catechizes our youngest children and prepares them for their First Communion. This is a wonderful program and we are very proud of it. It is a hands-on approach to teaching and is based on the Montessori method of learning, allowing the children to develop their spirituality at a level appropriate for their age and to grow in their relationship with the Lord. We are very proud of this program and we would like to extend it in the 3rd-6th grades. In order to grow and further the program, several new catechists need to be trained and the current catechists need to be trained at higher levels of the program. Please pray for the success of this campaign. As always, many thanks for your great generosity toward this parish family. HELPING THE HOMELESS- For the past several months, the New Paltz Church Council (of which St. Joseph s is a member) has been able to provide hotel vouchers for homeless people coming to our congregations for assistance. The funds for this program are starting to run low, and with the cold weather coming soon, we will soon need help in keeping this program going. If you would like to make a donation to this ministry, it would be much appreciated. Checks should be written out to St. Joseph s Church and can be dropped or sent in to the parish center, or put into the collection baskets (in that case, please write Voucher Program on the envelope). TAIZE WORKSHOP- On Sunday, November 27 at 4:00 P.M. there will be a program at Woodland Pond called Musical and Meditative Chant from the French Taize Tradition. In this workshop, you will learn about the Taize community and examine their spirit of joy, simplicity and mercy through their musical chants. FORGIVENESS WORKSHOP- On Saturday, December 3 Julia Masseo and Sr. Elizabeth Anne DiPippo will present a workshop on forgiveness at St. Augustine Church in Highland. The program will begin after the 8:00 A.M. Mass and is called The Power of Forgiveness: Making Room in Your Heart for Love. You will hear three real life stories about people who were able to forgive in extraordinary circumstances. And we will hear from the Scripture how Jesus calls us to be forgiving people. Join us to learn about how you can grow as a forgiving person SAINT JOSEPH S RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM Thanksgiving Week: Last class is Sun 11/20 (Classes resume 11/29) Dec 11- Conformation Preparation 7th & 8th grades 11-4 bring your own lunch This year Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is now offered for pre-k & K children during the 5:00 Mass Saturdays.
