The book is a celebration of all the good things about our St. Joseph s parish family and is full of photos- old and new- that show our history and where we are now. The book can make a great gift and be a good way to introduce St. Joseph s to your family members and friends who may be interested in joining our community. STUDENT MASS- The monthly Student Mass will be held on Sunday, November 20 at 7 p.m. Students and parishioners are invited to join in this Eucharistic celebration as we bear witness to the presence of Jesus and His love in our lives. There will be light refreshments and socializing following the mass in the Church Hall. Invite your friends! CATHOLIC GRANDPARENTS ASSOCIATION All grandparents are invited to attend the Nov. 29 meeting at 9:45 AM in Rm. 3 of the. Come and join with other grandparents to pray for our grandchildren and discuss ways in which we can pass on our Catholic faith.
3 PARISH COUNCIL ELECTION RESULTS- Congratulations to our parishioners who were elected to the parish council! Elected to a three-year term: Lou Cariola, Jeanine Donato-Stoddard, Betty Dubois, Pat Pretsch, Ron Weber Elected to a one-year term: Paul DeGiacomo and Anne Stokes We thank them all for their willingness to serve our parish in this way and we support them in this ministry. We would also like to express our great thanks to those who are completing their terms on the council: Bill Dubois, Karen Gavin, Paul Ibsen, Diane Terkelson, Trudy Unger They contributed so much to the council and we were blessed to have them serve the parish in this way. CAPITAL CAMPAIGN- As we have reported in the past few weeks, a capital campaign will soon begin that will help us to address important needs within our parish, including major maintenance repairs and upgrades and, just as importantly, evangelization and faith formation initiatives. We would like to use part of the funds generated through the campaign for adult faith formation. There is a great need for a more structured and more extensive faith formation program than what we can currently offer our parishioners. We would like to purchase several programs, possibly including the Arise in Christ series which helps engender spiritual renewal in the parish and evangelization to those who are not active in their faith. We can have some speakers come to our parish and also have some of our parishioners be trained in how to be able to offer faith formation themselves. We will describe the other initiatives in the weeks to come, and please pray for the success of this campaign. As always, many thanks for your great generosity toward this parish family. HELPING THE HOMELESS- For the past several months, the New Paltz Church Council (of which St. Joseph s is a member) has been able to provide hotel vouchers for homeless people coming to our congregations for assistance. The funds for this program are starting to run low, and with the cold weather coming soon, we will soon need help in keeping this program going. If you would like to make a donation to this ministry, it would be much appreciated. Checks should be written out to St. Joseph s Church and can be dropped or sent in to the parish center, or put into the collection baskets (in that case, please write Voucher Program on the envelope). HOLY LAND CROSS SALE- After all the Masses this weekend, November 12th and 13th, members of the Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes will be at the doors of the church selling crosses made in the Holy Land in order to raise funds to provide assistance to persecuted Christians in the Middle East. The cross will sell for $10 each and 50% of the proceeds goes directly to assist our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ. TAIZE WORKSHOP- On Sunday, November 27 at 4:00 P.M. there will be a program at Woodland Pond called Musical and Meditative Chant from the French Taize Tradition. In this workshop, you will learn about the Taize community and examine their spirit of joy, simplicity and mercy through their musical chants. 33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SAINT JOSEPH S RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM Thanksgiving Week: Last class is Sun 11/20 (Classes resume 11/29).. VOCATIONS DINNER- On Saturday, November 19 there will be a Vocations Dinner at Mt. St. Mary College in Newburgh. The dinner will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. and will be a great opportunity for young people to help them discover what God is calling them to. There will be lay persons, priests and religious there to speak about their own vocation stories and experiences and to answer any questions you may have about a particular state of life. Please RSVP to Luigi.Manente@archny.org The dinner will be followed by Eucharistic adoration and Praise and Worship with the Catholic Underground. CHRISTMAS PRESENCE IS HERE! Hundreds of children and adults have signed up for Christmas Presence, St. Joseph s holiday giving program. Now it s time to do our part. Look for the tag-covered Christmas trees at the church entrance. Select a tag for the type of gift you d like to contribute. There are 4 ways to participate: Purchase gifts from a child s wish list. Purchase gifts requested by senior citizens at Mountain View Nursing Home. Purchase gifts for parents at local domestic violence and homeless shelters. Purchase gift cards. More information about each giving method can be found on the gift tags or the flyers at the church entrances. Bring your gift(s) back to St. Joseph s by Sunday, December 4.
