3 Christmas in July Page 3 Red and green fabrics with a Christmas theme have been the focus for the Pittsboro Baptist Church Prayer Quilt Ministry (PBC PQM) during the month of July. The ladies creativity has been unleashed as they prepare useful and decorative items to sell at their booth at the Pittsboro Street Fair to be held October 28, 10a.m.-5p.m. Ideas ranging from ornaments to aprons to dog scarves have been discussed, but each item will be hand-crafted and quality-made by the members of the PBC PQM. It will be a great opportunity to purchase memorable, unique Christmas gifts that will be treasured by the recipient. All proceeds will go towards supplies for the Ministry. Make your list, check it twice, and stop at the Prayer Quilt Ministry Booth at the street fair on October 28. $400 Quilt Could Be Yours For only $2, you could become the owner of a lovely heirloom quality, handcrafted quilt valued at $400 retail. To raise funds for supplies, the Pittsboro Baptist Church Prayer Quilt Ministry (PQM) is holding a raffle for a Broken Braid quilt, measuring 55 x 67, as the prize. The quilt was made by members of the PQM. Tickets, available from any of the PQM members, are $2 each or three tickets for $5. The drawing will be held November 15.

4 Page 4 TACO BOUT LADIES Ladies, grab your best sombreros and head to PBC Fellowship Hall on Friday, September 15 at 6:00 p.m. It s taco night with the girls of PBC. We will have a taco bar and of course, there will be dessert!!! After our meal, our very own Hannah Brown is going to lead us in a pumpkin decorating workshop...this workshop is a hands on time with Hannah B providing the supplies and the artificial pumpkins. Who knows, we may produce such beautiful pumpkins that we can use them in our church. Hannah B is the proud owner of Pittsboro s newest home and furniture shop, Deep River Mercantile Design. Hannah B and her mom do custom painted cabinets and furniture. She also hosts various workshops at her shop - check out her website for information on upcoming workshops. After our meal and workshop, we will have the opportunity to walk, just right up the block, to see Hannah B s shop. Please RSVP to Amy or Jo Lynn on or by August 8 th. 7 Page 7 A Point in Time - Historical Tidbits about PBC Miss Flossie Whitley served as the church s first known librarian, succeeded by Mrs. Carl Yates. In 1972, while Mrs. Noah Wilson was serving as librarian, there were 417 books in circulation. The Power of Weakness In Tramp for the Lord, Corrie ten Boom describes traveling to Russia during the Cold War when Christians were being persecuted to thank an old woman who d been secretly translating Christian Books (including ten Boom s). Ravaged by multiple sclerosis, the woman could move only an index finger. Yet with it she typed constantly, translating words while praying for people who d eventually read them. Ten Boom s reaction was, Oh Lord, who don t you heal her? But the woman s husband said God had a purpose in his wife s suffering. Although the secret police closely watched other Christians, they left this woman alone, assuming she couldn t accomplish anything. Jesus works through our weaknesses, making his power perfect in them (see 2 Corinthinas 12:9). He doesn t ask if we re capable only if we re willing. The NewsletterNewsletter

Stop by the library. In recent years audio books have become popular. As the name suggests, audiobooks are voice recordings of the text of a book that you listen to rather than read. Audiobooks can be exact wordfor-word versions of books or abridged versions. Though they can come in various formats, your Pittsboro Baptist Church Library now has several audio books in CD form. For those who have a bit of a drive to work or have a long trip in your future, this is a great way to catch up on your reading. Here are reviews of some of PBC Library s selections. Stop by the library next Sunday and check one out.
