I am excited about the upcoming sermon series in We are really going to dig deep into Jesus teaching this year. I hope that you will use the following sermon series calendar in several ways: 1. Use it as a reminder to pray for Sunday morning worship. Pray for me as I prepare. Pray for the Spirit of God to be present resulting in life change weekly. 2. Use it to guide your own personal study. If you are studying along with the sermon series topics, you will get much more out of the series. 3. Use it to invite others to church. You can say to people, We are talking about life lessons from Jesus parables (or whatever the series). You ought to come check it out. It s really interesting. 2 Page 2 A Point in Time - Historical Tidbits about PBC At the January 10, 1960 church conference, the nominating committee was instructed to select a Survey & Planning Committee to make an intensive, comprehensive survey concerning the space problem at the church. Seven years later on January 29, 1967, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Education Building that is in use today. Rev. Gilbert Mister was the pastor at the time. NEWS FROM THE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE We received our routine fire inspection last week and need to relay a few points of concern to the church body. This should help insure we are both in compliance with state codes, but more importantly as safe as we can possibly be for all our staff, members, visitors, preschool attendees and staff, and other users, dogs included. 1. Please do not store any flammables in any of the closets that have either an HVAC unit or electrical panel boxes. 2. We will attempt to store all leftover paints in the small space between the boiler room and the HVAC unit in the room next to the old chapel (Children s Worship Center). Or, you may store paints in your respective Sunday School room. Please mark the top of any paint cans to be stored with a permanent marker with date and room it was used in. Every 4-5 years old paint will be purged. 3. If you notice a fire extinguisher missing or an exit or emergency light not working, please notify property management committee or staff. There are forms around the church to make the property management committee aware of needs within the church. These can be placed in Kara s box in the office or directly in the property management mailbox in the office. 4. Do not hang anything from the suspended ceiling tiles. 5. If you use an extension cord for temporary use such as youth meetings, children s church, choir practice, special occasions in fellowship hall, etc., please undo them when your event is over. 3 Page 3 RePurpose Coastal Women s Retreat 2017 Join us for our women's retreat, February 24-26, 2017! We may feel we serve many different purposes, fulfilling the rolls of mother, wife, career builder, etc., but if all the noise of life has caused us to take our eyes off our primary purpose, Jesus Christ, it's time for us to "repurpose" ourselves and align our hearts with His! Guest Speaker, Beth Greer returns to Caswell, bringing a wealth of life experiences and biblical teaching with her that hits home for women of all walks of life. Fantastic music and worship leaders, delicious meals, and meaningful group time rounds out a weekend for women, supported by women, to push each other toward a purpose-filled life for God. Guests for the retreat are housed on campus where meals are also provided on Saturday and Sunday, making the retreat a greater value and more convenient for you! 8 Page 8 When God Prayed by Don Wilton When God Prayed is based on a popular seminar that pastor and longtime Billy Graham associate Don Wilton first gave at Graham s training center, The Cove. It looks with intense depth at the words of Jesus in John 17 when he prayed for himself, his disciples, and for all believers when he knew that death on the cross was near. The longest prayer spoken by Jesus in the Gospels reveals so much about God s heart for his people, the utter sacrifice and tension of the crucifixion, and the ways in which God continues his work in us today. Wilton writes, I would pray that this book would simply stir your soul and move your heart to a fresh realization of the wonderful work of our Lord and Savior as he came in obedience to the Father unto death. Tirabassi first describes how the impossible, the extraordinary and the unbelievable happened when she began to take her prayer life very seriously. Then she explains how you can feel and see God s power working in your own life and for those whom you pray. Her stepby-step approach to having daily regular prayer time even includes nitty-gritty details such as how to create and maintain a prayer journal to record what God is doing to change your life.
