1 First Presbyterian Church 512 Third Street SW Rochester, Minnesota Phone Service for the Lord s Day September 26, 2010 Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time 8:30 and 11 a.m. A Community of Praise and Prayer Welcome to worship this morning. If you are a guest, please take advantage of any of our activities or programs, they are open to all, member and friend alike. If you are visiting because of medical treatment at the Clinic we offer our prayers for healing. We invite you to join us for coffee and fellowship in the social hall following the 8:30 service and in the foyer following the 11:00 service. Gathering Prelude On Eagle s Wings Joncas/Honore Jubilate Deo Handbell Choir Our worship begins with the prelude. Let the power of the music speak to you of God s glory; let its quietness tell you of God s peace; let its beauty lift your hearts in prayer. Greeting and Welcome Opening Prayer Call to Worship (8:30) Robert Schmidt (11:00) Marcia Dollerschell Let all who would follow Christ gather in worship and praise. Let our hearts sing praises to God for all of the ways we are blessed. Yet let us also see and hear those in need around us, and let us help. For we are not called just to seek and receive blessings from God. But to be God s blessings to all in need of a healing word today. Blessed be the name of the Lord! Hymn 376 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling HYFRYDOL Call to Reconciliation with God (please be seated) God says, I will save those who love me and will protect those who acknowledge me as Lord. So let us confess our sins to God. Silent Confession Kyrie 2277 Lord, Have Mercy SINGAPURA Please stand if you are able. Hymns with 3 digits or less are found in the hardcover Presbyterian Hymnal. Hymns with 4 digits are found in the soft-cover Sing the Faith in the pew rack.

2 Unison Prayer of Confession God of justice and righteousness, you lift up the lowly and fill the empty, yet we adore the high and the mighty. You reach out to the poor, yet we ceaselessly pursue wealth. You talk about treasure in heaven, yet we want dollars in our accounts right now. Forgive our lack of generosity. Heal our misguided ways. Cleanse us from the assumption that all that matters is what we have and what we can get. Change our hearts so that we can tend to the things that matter and find our life in Jesus Christ. Amen. Words of Life The Lord says, When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. God says, I will reward them with long life; I will save them. We are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Amen. Gloria Patri 579 Glory Be to the Father Henry Greatorex The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Let us share a sign of the peace of Christ with one another! A box for your donations is in the foyer. (Barbara Boyer/Social Concerns Committee) Aid for Pakistan. The people of Pakistan have suffered numerous natural and human-caused disasters over the past several years. Presbyterians have been in ministry there since before the nation of Pakistan was formed. For several years FPC supported a student at Forman Christian College in Lahore. The recent floods have brought record-breaking destruction to the country, w ith more than 1400 people dead and more than 1.5 million displaced. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is responding through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) and working with our ecumenical partners to help meet emergency needs -- providing food packages, shelter material, and non-food essentials. Emer- health services are also being provided. gency You can make a difference in bringing God's healing to a nation torn by devastation. If you wish to help, make your check to First Presbyterian and mark it for Pakistan. (Sylvia Swede / Mission Committee) God at Work through Caring Hands is the theme for the Fall Gathering of Presbyterian Women in the Twin Cities Area Presbytery that will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Kasson on Saturday, October 9. PW will pay the registration, which includes lunch, for all who wish to attend. Get your registration in to Peg Parsons by September 28. (Sylvia Swede) Parking lot reminder: On weekdays the entire parking row on the north side of our parking lot and the three spaces closest to the church in the second and third rows are leased out. Please, do *not* park in *any* of those spots. Thank you! Students in grades 1-5: Sign up now to represent FPC in an interchurch kickball tournament! The first game is Friday, October 15 at 4:30 p.m. at Soldier's Field. This will be a great time of fellowship and fun as we take on Zumbro Lutheran and Christ United Methodist!
