2 Beloved in Christ, Christ is risen! Right before Great Lent, our parish hosted two temporarily homeless families through our partnership with Family Promise. Many of our parishioners, as well as a few friends of the parish, volunteered to make that week possible. These volunteers set up our building, provided basic food staples and supplies for the families to use during the week, offered transportation in the mornings, cooked evening meals to share with the families, and spent the night at the church with the families in case any needs arose overnight. As many of you know, our parish was the first church to host a family. We were also the first church to host a graduation ceremony for that same family. The first family to enter the Family Promise program in Wichita entered at St. Mary; and that same family successfully moved into their own home from St. Mary 12 weeks later! During the season of Lent, I reflected on how little we apply the Gospel to our daily lives. We tend to look at the Gospel as a historical text, a story about past events. Yet, our services invite us to take a different approach. Throughout Holy Week, referring to events in the life of Christ, we heard the hymns begin with Today. For example, Today, Christ is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Today is suspended upon the Tree, He Who suspended the land upon the waters. In other words, the wisdom of our Church encourages us to view the words and events of Scripture as a reality within our own lives. While we betray Christ at various times in our lives, we also receive opportunities to participate today in His resurrection. At the baptism service, we read from Romans 6:4: Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Participating in the Resurrection today does not mean Christ raises us now in eternal glory. Rather, it means, as St. Paul explained: we walk in newness of life. Sharing the Resurrection is not merely informing people about a historical event it is helping them walk in newness of life. Our partnership with Family Promise is one way among many we can live the Gospel today. Providing a place for people to get back on their feet, helping them further their education, and assisting them in getting back to a home make the Resurrection of Christ present and visible today. As we continue our partnership with Family Promise, I hope you share the joy with me in helping others experience our Lord s Resurrection TODAY. Yours in Christ, Fr Aaron

10 Q u e s t i o n o f t h e M o n t h As we approach Mother's Day and Father's Day, we asked several parishioners What is one of your favorite memories of your mother or father?' Cliff Bragg: When the original Jurassic Park movie came out, I had the CD of the soundtrack. I remember playing the sound track in the car as my mother and I were driving around Wichita. With each song, I would tell my mom about which scene this was the music for. She was very interested. It was an affirming and exciting experience which I remember clearly. Amy Minks: One Christmas, we took my mom and dad and our children to Disney World in Florida. Mom and I went to Walmart and bought a decorated, lighted one foot Christmas tree. When the kids were asleep, we put out the tree and the presents which we had brought with us. The kids were so surprised and excited that Santa had found them in Florida. We also went to Miami, swam in the ocean, and went to the Florida Keys. It was one of the happiest times for my mom. Ken Dannenberg: I remember going on vacations with my family. We would just get in the car and drive and picnic along the way. It was really enjoyable. Susan Clark: When I was learning to drive with my father, he would call me Bill Elliott (He was a race car driver.). I didn't think I drove too fast, but my dad would say If you left five minutes earlier, you wouldn't have to drive so fast. Marie Patterson: When I was growing up, my mother made all of our clothes. She had four basic patterns and made her own patterns for different collars and sleeves. Each August, she would have my sisters and I choose six different patterns or colors of fabric from the catalogs. In those days, you could order fabric from Montgomery Wards, Spiegels, and Aldens. She would make six outfits for each of us girls. We would work on an assembly line, cutting, sewing, pressing, and hemming. As we got older and more skilled, we would get more complex jobs to do. Michael Shaheen: When I was a sophomore in high school I was in Madrigals, and my father was my choir teacher for one year. I really enjoyed getting to know another side of him. Michelle Shaheen: I am one of six children. We all learned to swim at an early age and went camping and swimming each weekend in the summer. My favorite memory of my mother is her getting things ready for our camping trips. Joan Aboud: My favorite memory of my mother occurred later in her life. She was in Kansas City and had emergency surgery. I went with her to the hospital. I spent a lot of time in the hospital chapel, praying for her, and I spent time with her as she recovered from the surgery. Shanna Blakely: I remember sitting outside with my father playing the guitar and singing. Connie Stevens: " My mother taught herself to cook, draw and play the piano. When she learned things, she used all of her senses to hear, to see, to taste, and touch. When she baked chocolate chip cookies and we would come home from school, the house smelled wonderful and we would really enjoy eating the cookies. I remember that my father and my mother read the Bible together every night and prayed together. "

16 In the Project poster, the lights of the cities and towns across North America represent the thousands of faithful men, women, and youth of our Archdiocese showing forth the Light of Christ through their selfless ministries within the Church and to the world around us. The funds we raise this year will go to strengthen the following ministries in our Archdiocese: planning senior housing projects; founding missions; supporting seminarians; encouraging youth ministries; protecting the unborn; teaching the Faith; caring for the elderly and those in prisons, nursing homes and hospitals; helping to feed, house, and clothe the poor; and inspiring monastic vocations. As the quote from Isaiah assures us, it is God s strength which will enable us to make firm the foundation of His Church (Eph 2:19-20). His Eminence has given us perhaps the most far-reaching and wide-ranging challenge of any Project to date. It is a tremendous challenge. God has inspired Sayidna JOSEPH with this vision; God will strengthen us to do our part. Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
