Bob Argall, Lynn Walsh, and I were voting Memorial Day to Labor Day 9:00 A.M members from Faith. WEDNESDAYS 6:15 P.M. CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP The major business of this year s assembly was to elect a new bishop. In January 2014, Bishop James Justman resigned and Bishop Jerry Mansholt CHURCH OFFICE was assigned as our interim bishop. When you elect a synodical bishop, 255 Roosevelt Street PO Box 369 any rostered clergy member in the ELCA is eligible to be nominated. Valders, Wisconsin Essentially, any pastor in the ELCA could be elected as bishop (yes, even Phone me!) After the first ballot cast is a nominating ballot. After this ballot, you Fax Website are allowed to withdraw your name if you do not wish to accept the call. This is the only time a candidate can withdraw from the process. Several STAFF DIRECTORY names were brought forward on the first ballot. Assistant From these seven names, the top three move forward onto the fourth Faith Matters Editor ballot. These were Interim Bishop Jerry Mansholt, Rev. Joy Mortensen ...faith21@tds.net Wiebe, and Rev. Dick Brusehoff. We elected Interim Bishop Jerry David Kriewald, Custodian Mansholt. He will serve a 6 year term as our bishop. I am very excited Derek Luckow, Bell Choir Director about him. He has a very calming and pastoral presence and will provide Kim Bremer, Dennis Luckow, great leadership for us, especially as we move forward from the events Carol Ulness, Becky Schultz Contemporary Worship Coordinators surrounding former Bishop Jim Justman s resignation. I hope to have Erin Lenzner, Mixed Choir Director Bishop Mansholt out to Faith sometime this fall, so we can all meet him. Peggy Madson, Sue Riesterer At the synod assembly, we were also gifted with a talented artist who and Crystal Otto, Organists would paint during the worship services. It was amazing to watch how the words of the service came to life in his paintings. Sunset Tours will be offering a free Bus Trip to Crossways Camps Date: Thursday, June 19th Time: Leave 7:30 a.m., leave St. Paul s in 8:00 a.m. Arrive Back: Manitowoc, St. Paul s 5:30 p.m., Valders 6:00 p.m. We plan on going to Waypost Camp and Imago Dei Village. We had a wonderful time last year and are hoping many of you would like to go again this year. Please give Mike Siewert a call at by June 15th if interested in attending. Meet Our Graduates... Graduates need to be dressed in their cap and gown and in the Gathering Space by 12:15 P.M. Senior Christians will meet Tuesday, June 17 at 9:00 a.m. at 7 Angels. Valders Faithful Quilters, an ecumenical group, work in fellowship hall Thursday mornings from 8:00AM until 11:30AM and a few quilters work on Tuesday at 12:30PM. The ladies rip, trim, iron, sew pieces together, pin sides together, sew around and tie with yarn to complete quilts. You do not need any sewing abilities to help. If you have any questions, please contact Gladys Hansen at All are invited to Quilting! June Stewardship QUILTS Materials always needed..... large pieces of new or good used fabric. No fabric with fiberglass. Old bed sheets for fillers. Clean materials only please. Thread for machine sewing - white polyester (Wal-mart's works best). Bright colored yarn. Donated materials should be clearly marked Quilting and left downstairs under the coat racks. 2 2

The following young adults affirmed their baptismal faith this past month: Matthew Curtis Brill, Kami Lois Christianson, Courtney Alexis Fahley, Megan Marie Greif, Kylee Jo Griffin, Alex Fritz Hoeppner, Alyssa Marie Johnson, Jasmine Ann Koehler, Kristina Ramona Lettenberger, Mallory Faith Miles, Emily Alyssa Reinertson, Erin Hannah Reinke, Jesse Ray Schwoerer, Cameron Scott Tuschel, Connor Jerome Walsh. In addition to this class, six young adults were confirmed: Kollin Keith Fischer, Joshua David Geiger, Andrew James Manke, Andrea Marie Manke, Kaitlyn Janmarie Mulhaney, Tanner Joe Olhrogge. The Who, What, When, Where and Why of the Eastern Lay School of Ministry! Who can attend Lay School? Any lay person in your congregation can attend Lay School. What does Lay School include? The Eastern Lay School of Ministry is a two-year program of learning that includes Systematic Theology, Old and New Testament Studies, Worship and Liturgy, Luther for Today, Church History and Spiritual Formation. When is Lay School? Lay School begins in September and continues through May. Lay School meets the second weekend of the month. (In December and May classes meet the first weekend of the month.) Classes run 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday night and 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Saturday. Three meals are available: dinner on Friday night and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Where is Lay School held? Lay School is held at Our Savior s Lutheran Church, 809 South Commercial Street, in Neenah. Why attend Lay School? Because Lay School is fun, challenging, fascinating, uplifting, and a great way to exercise your mind and your faith! 6 Mission Trip to Africa This summer, from July 11 th through the 30 th, Val and De Zibung, LuAnn Helgeson and Julie Endries will be among 12 individuals traveling with the Lakeshore Ecumenical Outreach group to Africa. They will travel to Nairobi, Kenya and Kampala, Uganda where they will live and work with an order of Catholic Brothers, called the Missionaries of the Poor. During their stay, they will provide outreach service and assist at the Good Shepherd Home for disabled people and orphans in Uganda where nearly 300 people reside. The Brothers also assist with several outreach services in these areas including medical needs, food supplies, home repairs, education sponsorship and general pastoral care. So how can you be a part of this mission experience? First and foremost, be with them spiritually through your prayers. They are also asking that you consider participating financially. Travel expenses are being paid by the individuals that are traveling. However, the reality is that the Brothers cannot accomplish their work through manpower alone. They have many material needs. They have been challenged to fill one or two suitcases per person with supplies to take with them. What this means for you is that 100 percent of what is donated will go to the needs of the Missionaries of the Poor. Currently, there is a display in the outer narthex with a suitcase on it. Attached to the suitcase are tags that represent items that have been requested as well as suggested monetary donations. The travelers from Faith have committed to supplying needed tools. They will use the monetary donations to purchase tools that best fit the Brother s needs. Donations will be collected until June 11 th. Items can be left in the designated pull-out drawer in the Welcome Center. Checks can be written out to Faith Lutheran Church and left with Christine in the office. 7 YOUTH & FAMILY What is the Miracle League? The Miracle League of the Lakeshore serves children ages 4-19 who live with any physical or intellectual disability. Based upon the reality that baseball diamonds are not built for crutches, braces, wheelchairs, etc., Miracle League removes these obstacles and gives children with disabilities the experience of playing baseball. Everyone plays, everyone bats, everyone wins! At our last meeting, the Luther League voted to donate $ to the Miracle League to become Fan members. Opening Day is June 7. For more information go to The Rules are Simple: Everyone Hits - Everyone Gets on Base - Everyone Crosses Home plate! The athletes play on our Miracle Field in Dewey Street Park, (Manitowoc) The field is custom designed and rubberized - giving every child the opportunity to be successful. The field provides a level playing field where children can hit, run, and score - just as they envisioned in their dreams. To provide assistance and encouragement to the athletes, the Miracle League uses a "buddy" system. Each player will head out to the field with an able bodied peer. This partnership will benefit both the player and the buddy - they'll share the love of baseball and most importantly, create a lasting friendship. Luther League will meet on Sunday, June 1 from 3:00 to 6:30 for Highway clean-up, outdoor games, bible study and pizza around the campfire. We have decided that we would like to extend the invitation for this event to all 6th and 7th graders as well. Meet in the youth room at 3:00 for instructions. Graduates is anyone in your family graduating from High School or College this year? If so, we d like to recognize all the Faith Lutheran Students who are graduating. Please give Christine or Lynn their information, including from where they are graduating, any future plans, and a graduation picture. We would like to honor all of our graduates on June 8 at the 9:00 service. 7

8 Faith Lutheran Church Minutes The May Board of Directors meeting was called to order by President Don Domrath. Present were Bob Argall, Lyle Roehrig, David Haupt, Julie Endries, Carolyn Hallberg, Jenniffer Zutz, Chloe Cigler, Jan Mulhaney, Pastor Erica and Carol Ulness. Devotions were given by Bob Argall. The April minutes were approved. Board Reports Stewardship - David Haupt presented the financial report for April. The checkbook balance as of 4/30 was $41, Jeff Kjellberg will be here to meet with the Bd of Directors and the original Capital Appeal team on Thursday, June 12 at 6:00. The stewardship board is looking at possibly delivering stewardship packets in person for the fall stewardship campaign and a second appeal. The James Company and Kairos will be contacted for proposals for a second capital appeal. There was a question as to whether Thrivent Choice Dollars could be put to the Capital Appeal rather than Undesignated Memorials. From January through March there was $2,000 of Choice Dollars put to Undesignated Memorials. Further discussion will be held on this. Lay Ministry The committee looking into the possibility of one service hopes to have a recommendation to the Bd of Directors by the June meeting. Evangelism On an unspecified Saturday in June, there will be Random Acts of Kindness done at a brat fry at Christel s. $5 dollar bills with a Faith business card will be handed out. Education The board will be putting together a concrete list of expectations for Sunday School over the summer and will also be looking into curriculum. VBS will be held July Properties The outdoor carpet at the north upper entrance needs to be replaced. Lyle asked what should be done with the pews that were taken out of church and one suggestion was to have them as a silent auction item at Harvest Fest. Youth Ministry no report Parish Fellowship no report Pastor Erica handed out the Pastor s Report for April as well as a report from Lynn Walsh. Old Business Scrip Program The program has earned approximately $2,300 so far this year. More volunteers are needed to help with the program. Annual Audit Will be done Wednesday, May 21. Call Committee Update Nothing to report at this time. 50 th Anniversary Update Pastor Erica and Carol will look for people to help on this committee and will try to meet in the next week or two. New Business Baccalaureate Service Will be held June 8 and Father Klingeisen from St. Mary s/st. Michael s will participate in the service. ComCast Will air one service a week. The next meeting will be Monday, June 16 at 6:30. Carol will have devotions. The meeting ended with the Lord s Prayer. Please turn out the lights (especially in the balcony) and lock the doors when you are the last one in the building. With many break ins lately, let s all be a little extra careful and cautious for our building and its contents. Thank you! If you wish to use a room/rooms at the church (including the kitchen) you need to call Christine in the church office to reserve the space(s). This allows us not only to know who is using the building, but also makes sure that rooms are available and cleaned before you use them. Thank you for your prompt attention to this!
