Lutheran Disaster Response brings God s hope, healing and renewal to people whose lives have been disrupted by disasters in the United States and around the world. When the dust settles and the headlines change, we stay to provide ongoing assistance to those in need. Lutheran Disaster Response strives to help the church continue to be church in the midst of disaster following Christ s call to bring hope and healing to our neighbor in need. Some key areas of work include: Providing emotional and spiritual care for people who have been affected by a disaster and for leaders who respond to a disaster Coordinating volunteers through our local affiliates Assisting refugees in a holistic way by meeting the varied needs of the Community. Promoting disaster risk-reduction by helping communities build their assets thereby reducing the effects of likely disasters. Providing long-term recovery efforts by addressing the unmet needs months or even years after a disaster strikes Lutheran Disaster Response brings God s hope, healing and renewal to those whose lives have been disrupted by disasters, in the United States and around the world. When the dust settles and the headlines change, we stay to provide ongoing assistance to those in need. Internationally and throughout the United States, Lutheran Disaster Response makes sure that each community receives the physical, mental and emotional care needed to recover from a disaster. In the United States, Lutheran Disaster Response works through 39 local affiliates across the country to respond to a disaster from a local level. This is a crucial element of our work because each affiliate has the partnerships, the connections, and the history with the community to help determine what is needed for the recovery work these organizations provide help to affected homeowners and communities by helping them muck out, clean-up and rebuild. Internationally, we work through the long-standing relationships of the ELCA with global companions and partners. These relationships allow, Lutheran Disaster Response to take into account not only the immediate needs of the moment but the long-term goals of the communities in which we engage. Through your generous gifts we have the staying power to be there as long as needed. Thanks to you, Lutheran Disaster Response is in it for the long haul. Pastor Erica

The theme for the event is Here I Am, Lord. Send Me! based on Isaiah 6:8. Pastor Natalie Kramer McComb will speak on how we can discover and develop the raw materials/gifts God has given us. Think of a bar of iron which is worth about $5.00 as it is, but if made into sewing needles it increases to $5,000, and if made into balance springs for Swiss watches, to $500,000. What are your gifts worth? The day will begin with registration at 8:15 am followed by a worship service led by Pastor Don Behrendt, music from the Peace Youth Choir, a presentation by Pastor Natalie, time to share what women of your congregation are doing with their gifts, and then lunch. Women are invited to bring in-kind gifts of new or gently used items needed to set up a kitchen such as utensils, silverware, bakeware, dishes, pots and pans, and kitchen towels for the Golden House, N.E.W. Community Shelter & Wellspring. Part of the worship offering will go to support local food pantries. The fee for the event is $10 which includes morning refreshments and lunch. 6 SPIRIT LED, SPIRIT SHAPED A Journey Together Bishop Gerald Mansholt welcomes all High School Youth in the Synod to gather for a time for Dwelling in the Word, lots of conversation & prayer, and getting to know one another as we talk about who we are and where God might be calling us into mission. We intend this gathering to be an important step in a Spirit-led process of shaping the synod to participate more deeply in God s mission in the world. Having the voice of our youth is very important as we have small group conversations by Dwelling in the Word, Listening and Praying Together and Asking: What might God be up to in our synod? Where might the Spirit be stirring our imaginations for ministry? Please consider joining us Sunday, March 1st 2:00 pm 5:00 pm St. John Lutheran Church, 318 Garfield, Marion Soda, Water and snacks will be provided Reservations would be appreciated to jill.roznowski@ecsw.org However, no one will be turned away. Ours Through Adoption of Northeastern Wisconsin is presenting its 30 th Annual Adoption Conference on the St. Norbert College campus in De Pere, on Saturday, March 14. Topics include introduction to adoption, transracial parenting, developmental behavior vs. adoption related challenges, what is in the hearts and minds of adopted teens, talking to kids about adoption, and an adoptive parent panel. Without your cooperation, this would not be such a success! It s Time to Go to Church The little girl with shining eyes Her eager face aglow Said, Daddy, it is almost time To go to church, let s go. They teach us there of Jesus love Of how He died for all Upon the cruel cross to save Those who on Him do call. Oh no, said Daddy, not today I ve worked hard all this week And I must have one day to rest I m going to the creek. For there I can relax and rest And fishing s fine they say So run along, don t bother me We ll go some other day. Now months and years have passed away The plea is heard no more, Come Daddy, let us go to church Those childhood days are o er And now that Daddy s growing old When life is almost thru; He finds the time to go to church But what does daughter do? She says Oh Daddy, not today I stayed up all last night, And I ve just got to have some sleep Besides, I look a sight. Then Daddy lifts a trembling hand To brush away the tears, He hears again the pleading voice Distinctly through the years He sees a small girl s shining face Upturned with eyes aglow, Who said It s time to go to church Please, Daddy, won t you go? 7
