2 A Welcoming Community: You enter this Church not as stranger, but as a guest of God. He is your heavenly Father. Come, then, with joy in your heart and thanks on your lips into His presence, offering Him your love and service. Be grateful to the strong and loyal ones who, in the name of Jesus Christ, built this place of worship, and to all who have beautified it and hallowed it with their prayers and praise. Ask His blessing on those who love His house of faith as the inspiration of their labor, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit, and may that blessing rest on you, both in your going out and your coming in. Parish Registration: You must be a registered member of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish to receive Baptism, Confirmation, First Penance, First Holy Communion, Marriage and to receive sponsor letters from the pastor. New Members: Please stop by or call the parish office and register. (If you are leaving the parish, please notify the office before you leave). Thank you. Change of Address: Please notify the parish office as soon as possible if you have had a change of address. Inactive Catholics: As a welcoming parish, we ask every parishioner to ask God to put in your heart people whose hearts we need to reach out and touch with God s love. Before you talk to men about God, you talk to God about men. Please, call, write, leave in an envelope in the collection the name, address and phone number of the person. Father would be delighted to meet with them. SACRAMENTAL LIFE RCIA: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process to bring non-catholics into the faith. Anyone seeking information or interested in becoming a part of this community of faith can call the parish office. Sacrament of Baptism: Baptisms are scheduled for the 1 st and 3 rd Sundays of the month following the 9:30 AM Mass. In order to understand and better appreciate this special sacrament, parents are required to attend the Pre-Baptismal Program, which is held on the last Saturday of each month at 7:00 PM in St. Basil s Rectory. Please contact the rectory to schedule your child s baptism. Sacrament of Marriage: Couples contemplating marriage should notify the rectory at least six months prior to the date to allow necessary time for proper preparation. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick: Urgent calls will be attended to at any time of the day or night. Visitation of the Sick: Please call the parish for visitation of the sick at home, in the hospital, or health care facility. Parish Mission Statement: We, the Catholic faithful of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, in union with our Holy Father, the Pope, and our Bishop, are called through Baptism to share in the ministry which Jesus Christ has entrusted to the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. As priest and lay faithful in a rural area, we utilize our energy to serve the spiritual needs of the Kingdom of God to promote a culture of life, justice, and peace to this generation and the generations that follow us. Prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Heavenly beauty and splendor of the Father, you are the most valued Heavenly treasure. New Eve, immaculate in soul, spirit and body, created of the godly seed by the Spirit of God, you are the spiritual Mother of mankind. Pure Virgin, full of grace then and now, your whole being was raised Heavenly in full glory, to be elevated above all the hosts within the Kingdom of God. O Heavenly Mother, Queen of Heaven and earth, I recognize the glory of your highest title, the Immaculate Heart of Mary! Loving Mother, dispenser of endless blessings, you who continually intercede on our behalf, please present my need before your loving Son, Jesus. (Mention your request) O Immaculate Heart of Mary, I know that you are now presenting my need before Jesus, for you have never turned away those in dire need. Mother dearest, I await your favorable answer, submitting myself to the Divine will of the Lord, for all glories are His for ever and ever. Amen.

3 Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Sunday, July 10 th, 2016 Sunday Readings First Reading: Deuteronomy 30:10-14 Moses petitions the people to follow the commandments God has set before them. He reminds them that the laws are not in the sky or far away at sea, but are accessible to them and meant to be followed if they wish to prosper. Responsorial Psalm: 69 Second Reading: Colossians 1:15-20 Paul discusses the divine nature of Jesus and explains that Jesus was created before anything else. Everything else was created through him, and for him. Gospel: Luke 10:25-37 While discussing everlasting life, a lawyer mentions loving one s neighbor as oneself. The lawyer then asks Jesus, Who is my neighbor? Jesus tells him about a man beaten by robbers, who was ignored by both a priest and a Levite before a Samaritan stopped and offered him aid. Jesus asks the lawyer who was neighbor to the injured man. The lawyer says the one who treated him with compassion. Jesus encourages him to go and do the same. Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Beloved of God If we listen carefully to the readings this Sunday we will hear the whole Christian, Catholic life very gently stated. In the First Reading Moses describes how simple God s command is. I would like to quote his words because they are beautiful. God s command is not too mysterious and remote for you. It is not up in the sky, that you should say, Who will go up in the sky to get it for us and tell us of it, that we may carry it out? Nor is it across the sea, that you should say, Who will cross the sea to get it for us and tell us of it, that we may carry it out? The commandment of the Lord is very near to us, already in our hearts and in our mouths. We have only to carry it out. But what is it? In the Gospel, a lawyer is very interested in this question. He asks Jesus to collapse the whole law down to a single saying. Since the answer is not too mysterious and remote, Jesus asks the lawyer what he thinks it is. The man says, by rote: You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself. You have answered correctly, Jesus says. Do this and you will live. But the man wants specifics. He is digging. He asks, who is my neighbor? What would be your answer to this question, which seems to be the crux of the matter? For his part, Jesus is trying to get the man to find a simple answer without being handed one. As before, he does not respond directly, but this time gives the lawyer a parable to chew on. A man fell victim to robbers. They beat him terribly, take his money, and leave him lying in the road, halfdead. A priest (an Israeli) saw this wounded man on the road and he passed right by, averting his eyes. A Levite (an Israeli) did the same thing. Along came a Samaritan, who theoretically should have been an enemy of the Israelis. But he did not avert his eyes or cross to the other side of the road. He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn, and cared for him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, Take care of him. Now the lawyer starts to get it. Jesus asks him, Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers victim? and the lawyer says immediately, The one who treated him with mercy. Jesus answers, Go and do likewise. Jesus does the same thing with you and me. Jesus keeps working us, trying to get us to see the simple answer that hides inside us. Go help those in need. God has given you an open heart. If only you would let your heart receive his love and then pass it on to his other people! This is not too mysterious or remote. Start now. Become what you were made to be. It is written within the law and within you. ~John Foley, SJ

As she shared in the suffering of Christ, so may she now share in the glory of the risen Savior in heaven. From a letter to the Corinthians by Saint Clement, pope Seek the good of all, not personal advantage The command has been written: Cling to the saints, for those who cling to them will be sanctified. There is a passage in Scripture as well which states: With the innocent man you will be innocent, and with the chosen you will be chosen also; likewise with the perverse you will deal perversely. Devote yourselves, then, to the innocent and the just; they are God s chosen ones. Why are there strife and passion, schisms and even war among you? Do we not possess the same Spirit of grace which was given to us and the same calling in Christ? Why do we tear apart and divide the body of Christ? Why do we revolt against our own body? Why do we reach such a degree of insanity that we forget that we are members one of another? Do not forget the words of Jesus our Lord: Woe to that man; if would be better for him if he had not been born rather that scandalize one of my chosen ones. Indeed it would be better for him to have a great millstone round his neck and to be drowned in the sea than that he lead astray one of my chosen ones. Your division has led many astray, has made many doubt, has made many despair, and has brought grief upon us all. And still your rebellion continues. Pick up the letter of blessed Paul the apostle. What did he write to you at the beginning of his ministry? Even then you had developed factions. So Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote to you concerning himself and Cephas and Apollos. But that division involved you in less sin because you were supporting apostles of high reputation and a person approved by them. We should put an end to this division immediately. Let us fall down before our master and implore his mercy with our tears. Then he will be reconciled to us and restore us to the practice of brotherly love that befits us. For this is the gate of justice that leads to life, as it is written: Open to me the gates of justice. When I have entered there, I shall praise the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord; the just shall enter through it. There are many gates which stand open, but the gate of justice is the gateway of Christ. All who enter through this gate are blessed, pursuing their way in holiness and justice, performing all their tasks without discord. A person may be faithful; he may have the power to utter hidden mysteries; he may be discriminating in the evaluation of what is said and pure in his actions. But the greater he seems to be, the more humbly he ought to act, and the more zealous he should be for the common good rather than his own interest.

Please remember your obligation to attend Mass every weekend and Holyday. It is still a mortal sin to miss Mass (except for inclement weather and illness). Masses on weekends are readily available in most vacation spots. When out of town for the weekend, your parish still needs your weekly tithe for support. Just as you must still pay the cable, electric, and other utilities when you are away on vacation, so too your parish needs your constant continuous support. Enjoy the Summer!
