We, the people of St. Anne will... - seek unity in our diverse community - establish a living Church where people practice their faith - develop a compassionate communal leadership..... to foster and preserve solidarity among God s people.
2 Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time November 14, 2010 Sing praise to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and melodious song. Psalm 98:5 PERSEVERE IN OUR DAILY WORK In our world and culture, where hard work is valued so much (we even give over a whole day on the civic calendar to celebrate labor) and our busyness seems to escalate continually, Paul s admonitions to the Thessalonians seem a bit obvious. But even in our lives today, when we have more and more devices to save time, and still seem to have less and less of it, people yet find ways to be busybodies in the midst of all their busy -ness. In Paul s day, some members of the Christian community were being idle because they knew the Lord was returning in glory very soon. Why bother to work? So they turned their attention to meddling in the lives of others. Theirs was a rather complacent I ve been saved attitude in the face of the great tumult of the end times described by Malachi and Jesus in the Gospel. These days, we have no such potent notion of the Lord s imminent return, but Paul s message, which has an echo both in Malachi and Luke, is still pertinent for us. We must keep on doing our daily work, and persevere in it, consecrate it all to the Lord, and tend to being faithful until the time of his return. Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. FIFTH ANNUAL HONORING THE LIFE COMMUNITY MEMORIAL SERVICE Saturday, November 20, :00 am - Church A time of giving thanks for the blessing of lives shared. Join us in prayer, song and thanksgiving. The novena starts November 7:30 pm in the church. After the Memorial Mass, we gather in friendship and joy celebrating the lives of those who have gone before us and an appreciation for the support and concern of those who have stood with us during our time of loss and grief. A reception will follow the Mass in the Parish Hall. SAINT ROSE PHILIPPINE DUCHESNE ( ) November 18 Pope Benedict once declared himself struck by how remarkably diverse our American saints are some native born: Mother Seton, Katherine Drexel, Kateri Tekakwitha; most, like many Catholics today, immigrants: Padre Serra, Bishop Neumann, Mother Cabrini, Rose Philippine Duchesne. When the French Revolution that dispersed her convent ended, Rose joined the Religious of the Sacred Heart, volunteering for their United States mission, opening the first free school west of the Mississippi. Only after lengthy service as Superior did Rose now seventyone realize her life s dream, undertaking a mission among the Potawatomi Indians. When some worried about her advanced age and failing health, the Jesuit mission leader overruled them: She must come! She may not be able to do much work, but she ll bring the mission success by praying for us! Frustrated by her inability to learn their languages, Rose nevertheless spoke to the Native Americans by her prayerful presence before the tabernacle. Quah-kah-ka-numad, they named her, Woman-Who-Prays- Always their way of bestowing the title the Church would later make official: saint! Peter Scagnelli, Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. SEASON OF ADVENT During the Season of Advent we have a Candle Lighting Ritual at the start of each Mass. We invite families, if you are interested to light the Advent Candle, to please sign up ahead of time. Please let Collins know or simply call the office during the week. NOT ENOUGH It is not enough for me to love God if my neighbor does not love God. St. Vincent de Paul

4 YOUTH NEWS St. Anne Youth Ministry St. Anne Youth Ministry will meet on Monday, November 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The topic of our gathering will be: Giving Thanks to God. This gathering is designed to help us recognize the things in our lives that we are most thankful for, and prepares us to help our families celebrate Thanksgiving by giving thanks to God. The session is designed to send the youth home with a meal blessing that they have created that can be shared at Thanksgiving. Next Monday, November 22, St. Anne Youth Ministry will celebrate with our annual pot-luck dinner celebration. We are also asking all youth to participate in the Coat, Hat, Glove & Sock donation. If you have a warm coat in good condition that you don t use anymore, we would ask you to consider donating it so someone without may stay a little warmer this winter. One of the most needed items are new athletic socks. If everyone would bring one (1) package of new athletic socks it will be a wonderful gesture towards helping people this holiday season. Please bring the items to the November 22 Youth Ministry meeting. All items will be donated to Saint Anthony Foundation on Tuesday, November 23. THANK YOU!! FAITH FORMATION COMMUNION PREPARATION For 161 students (grades 1 to 8) who are in the first year of faith formation and attend Monday CP classes..family Life Program God s Gift of Self This month, the children and their families will develop a sincere appreciation of personal strengths and weaknesses. They will focus on self-confidence and the need to follow Jesus. They will also learn ways to make good moral decisions. This might be a good time for all of us to see just how much we appreciate our own growth, and to evaluate our own moral choices with an examination of conscience. FIRST COMMUNION For 131 First Communion students who are in their second year of faith formation and attend Tuesday FC classes. We are Peacemakers This week the young people of the parish preparing for Reconciliation are reflecting on God s gift of peace. All the baptized are anointed to announce the kingdom and make all people sharers in the peace of Christ. We are blessed and bring God s blessings to others. How do we, as a parish, strive to live as peacemakers and to make a difference? November Virtue: Thankfulness is being grateful to God, not only for the things we have but also for the people in our lives. I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise of God while I live Psalm 104:33.
