3 Dear parish family, 17 th Sunday Ordinary Time C It s nice to be back refreshed after a month long vacation. And my thanks to Fr. Ted who covered for me and most especially your prayers for my safe trip back and forth. Very glad to see the new replenished tabernacle in our day chapel. Many thanks for those who donated for its refurbishing. If you have not visited the chapel, be there and see the beauty of the refurbished tabernacle. But of course don t just see it but stay and pray for a while. The Lord awaits you there. Our heartfelt support to the teachers and volunteers who are taking charge and making possible the Vacation Bible Class for kids this week (Monday to Friday). This is truly a wonderful and fun opportunity for the kids to learn and grow in their faith, and have a meaningful summer days with the Lord. Our gospel reading this Sunday is replete with meanings and implications about our relationship to the heavenly Father. It is so rich in meaning about prayer life - how and what to pray. There is a tendency however that we can only be fixated to the one verse in the reading, most favorite to all of us for obvious reason which says, "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be open to you." This verse taken isolated from the other verses would sound like a Genie in a magic lamp of Aladdin. But God is not a heavenly Genie that serves us as if we are the Master. He is sovereign Lord of the Universe and moves according to his purposes. God hears and answers all our prayers only that his answers cannot be limited to what we desire. They may come as yes, but not yet, yes, but not the way you think or no, something is better. Or when His answer to our prayers is sometimes definitely a "No", it is not because he doesn't care but because it might not be what is fitting and best for us according to his infinite wisdom. For He desires only the good; the problem is that we oftentimes did not see it that way. This Sunday s readings underscore the power of a good relationship with the Lord our God. How can we call God our Father unless we are personally familiar with the Lord? Prayer is not only about asking but more deeply it s about relationship. The readings invite us to examine our relationship with Him and ask ourselves, what has our prayer life been like during the rest of the week? Perhaps today we can resolve to deepen our relationship with the Lord our God through frequent communication to Him in prayer. And may we receive the grace to do so. Blessings to you and have a good week! Fr. P. Tony

In this Jubilee Year, we are asked to open our eyes and hearts to see how God is working in our lives and to more actively spread His mercy out to others. We are creating a Garland of Mercy with our teen group to bear witness to our efforts to help others. For the entire year, we are asking each week when you do works of mercy, to write down one or more works on the strips of paper in the ends of the pews. Please put them into the collection basket so that we offer up, not just our treasure to the Lord, but our time and talent in a visible way. Red Strips are for The Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, clothing the needy, visiting the sick or imprisoned. White Strips are for The Spiritual Works of Mercy: Counseling the doubtful, bearing wrongs patiently, forgiving offences willingly and praying for the living and the dead. Gold Ones are for the acts of mercy which we received from others. I know that all of you are part of spreading God s mercy out con- into the world. Please take the time to become more scious of it and take credit for it here before the Lord.
