Classes are held on the 2 nd & 3 rd Tuesday of each month. Please come by the Parish Office to register or call for more information. Reconciliation The Sacrament of Penance is offered on Saturdays, from 4:30p.m. to 5:30p.m. or by appointment. Sacrament of Marriage Please contact the Parish Office at least (6) six months prior to your desired wedding date to arrange a meeting with Father Tony or one of the Deacons. If you want a Mass, you must call Father Tony. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Are you a non-catholic who is interested in joining the Catholic faith? Are you a baptized Catholic who has never received the sacraments of 1 st Communion and Confirmation? If your answer is yes to either of these questions, call the Parish Office. Sacrament of First Communion First Communion candidates must be baptized, at least in the second grade, and have been attending CCE classes for two full years previous to their receiving the Sacrament. Adults needing First Communion should refer to the rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Sacrament of Confirmation Confirmation candidates must have previously received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Communion. They must have faithfully attended Life Teen for at least one full year prior to beginning preparation for the Sacrament (more than three absences without a valid excuse can alter the process). A signed form stating that the parent/guardian and the candidate understand all requirements is also necessary before the preparation begins. Adults needing confirmation should refer to the Rite of Christian initiation of adults. 3 Dear parish family, 29 Sunday C All of life experience tells us, stick-to-it, set the goal and keep at it, don t give up, and then something happens. The good news is that when we pray, something happens. We change. Prayer forces us from self-reliance to dependence on God. When we're close to God by prayer, we live a God-centered life. In our gospel reading this Sunday, Jesus speaks to us about the necessity to pray always without becoming weary. He tells us a story of a wicked judge who finally gives in to the pleadings of the widow because of her persistence to render her a just decision. By pestering the judge, the widow got what she wanted. And in the first reading, we hear also the story of the Israelites defeating their enemy in battle as long as Moses prayed. Yet there are those who are tired in praying or even stop praying especially when things asked seemingly are not granted. This happens when one simply equates praying as petition. But let's make no mistake about this. To be persisting in prayer is not merely about petition, although it is one aspect of it. But it is more about relation. When we uplift ourselves to God in a personal relationship, then constancy of prayer becomes a part of life and a necessity. Thus persisting prayer doesn t simply mean as to negotiate with God to obtain something rather it is an attitude in life of confessing our dependence on Him. Persisting prayer then expresses a pure recognition of the truth that God's will is not always ours and that life is filled with mystery. In the mind of the Lord we should never stop our pleading to God with our right attitude. Right attitude is like praying in effect, Lord God grant me what I pray if this is according to your will. It is your will Lord to be done not mine. When seemingly our prayers are not granted they don't mean God did not hear them. God hears all of our prayers but His answers maybe are different. Or maybe we ask for the wrong things and God granted us better things yet sometimes we do not recognize. Even sometimes the answers of God come to us in ways we do not expect or we don't perceive as the answer to our prayers. Or they could come to us late or in the cover of blessing in disguises. The Lord wants us to be persevering in prayer not only because He wants us to have a source of power and strength when are face to face with the limitations of life and with the human condition. But above all because the Lord want us to have all the opportunity to declare our complete trust and dependence on the loving God and that we make ourselves constantly open to Himself who is the source of grace. Tony Estimada familia parroquial, 29 Domingo C Por experiencia toda la vida se nos dice, fija tus metas y persíguelas, no te desanimes aférrate a ellas, y luego algo sucede. La buena noticia es que cuando oramos, algo sucede. Cambiamos. La oración nos permite movernos de la autosuficiencia a la dependencia de Dios. Cuando estamos cerca de Dios por medio de la oración, vivimos una vida centrada en Dios. En nuestra lectura del Evangelio de este domingo, Jesús nos habla de la necesidad de orar siempre y no desfallecer. Nos cuenta la historia de un juez malvado que finalmente cede a los argumentos de la viuda debido a su persistencia "la de concederle una decisión justa. " Por insistir al juez, la viuda consiguió lo que quería. Y en la primera lectura, oímos también la historia de los israelitas derrotando a su enemigo en la batalla, mientras Moisés se mantuvo orando. Sin embargo, hay aquellos que están cansados de orar o incluso dejan de orar especialmente cuando las cosas aparentemente no se les conceden. Esto sucede cuando uno simplemente conecta la oración con la petición. Vamos aclarando para no equivocarnos sobre esto. Para ser persistentes en la oración no se trata únicamente de la petición, si bien es un aspecto vital en ello. Pero se trata de algo más profundo: la relación. Cuando nos elevamos espiritualmente a Dios en una relación personal, la constancia de la oración se convierte en una parte importante de la vida y en una necesidad. Por lo tanto persistir en la oración no significa simplemente negociar con Dios para obtener algo, más bien es una actitud en la vida de confesar nuestra dependencia en El. La oración persistente expresa un reconocimiento puro de la verdad que la voluntad de Dios no siempre es la nuestra y que la vida está llena de misterio. Con la mentalidad del Señor nunca debemos dejar nuestra súplica a Dios con una actitud correcta. En efecto la actitud correcta es orando "Señor Dios, concédeme lo que pido si esto es de acuerdo a tu voluntad. Que sea tu voluntad Señor; no la mía. Cuando nuestras oraciones aparentemente no se conceden no quieren decir que Dios no nos ha oído. Dios escucha todas nuestras oraciones, pero sus respuestas quizá sean diferentes. O tal vez pedimos por cosas equivocadas y Dios nos concede cosas mejores pero a veces no lo reconocemos. Incluso a veces las respuestas de Dios vienen a nosotros en formas inesperadas y no las recibimos tal. O podrían venir a nosotros no en el tiempo que queremos sino en su tiempo o la respuesta es una bendición que no la reconocemos. El Señor quiere que seamos perseverantes en la oración no sólo porque Él quiere que tengamos una fuente de poder y fuerza cuando estamos confrontando las limitaciones de la vida en nuestra condición humana. Sobre todo porque el Señor quiere que nosotros tengamos la oportunidad de declarar toda nuestra confianza y dependencia en el Dios de amor y que estemos constantemente receptivos a Él, que es la fuente de la gra Bendiciones a todos y que tengan una buena semana! Need someone to fill Holy Hour on Wednesday Afternoon 1-2pm. We are in need of people willing to sub in the chapel on an as needed basis. Please contact the office as soon as possible if you are able to help. Garland of Mercy... In this Jubilee Year, we are asked to open our eyes and hearts to see how God is working in our lives and to more actively spread His mercy out to others. We are creating a Garland of Mercy with our teen group to bear witness to our efforts to help others. For the entire year, we are asking each week when you do works of mercy, to write down one or more works on the strips of paper in the ends of the pews. Please put them into the collection basket so that we offer up, not just our treasure to the Lord, but our time and talent in a visible way. Red Strips are for The Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, clothing the needy, visiting the sick or imprisoned. White Strips are for The Spiritual Works of Mercy: Counseling the doubtful, bearing wrongs patiently, forgiving offences willingly and praying for the living and the dead. Gold Ones are for the acts of mercy which we received from others. I know that all of you are part of spreading God s mercy out into the world. Please take the time to become more conscious of it and take credit for it here before the Lord. 5

Christmas Outreach Deadline Oct. 31st Our Justice & Peace Ministry will once again be taking names of those in need of assistance for our Christmas Outreach Program. We are asking parishioners to submit the names of La Porte families they know who are in need. We will only be taking the information in this way. Please call the office and give us the family contact information. Someone from our ministry will contact them in November, and do an interview in order to determine their eligibility. The Gabriel Project is designed to help women and teenagers who are in a crisis pregnancy. If you are in need of assistance or know someone who is, please contact or the Church Office. Children s Liturgy of the Word Every 10a.m. Mass Just a reminder...our Children s Liturgy of the Word is held each Sunday, during the 10am Mass so that our young parishioners may be able to understand the Gospel and participate in the Eucharistic celebration at their own level.
