3 Dear parish family, 10th SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME Year C We start our annual long stretch of summer Ordinary Time with a bang this Sunday, as our readings recount two stories of miraculous resuscitation (first reading & gospel). When Jesus raises the widow s son in the gospel story, He reminds us that He, the Lord of Life, can give us back the gifts we have lost, including the greatest gift of all: life itself. He gives us the strength we need to keep walking and sharing the message of hope even when everything seems lost. How many things we lose every day in our lives! Sometimes it is our fault, and sometimes it is not. Yet God never abandons us. He always comes out to meet us and reminds us: I m with you! Don t be afraid! Give me your hand! The gospel illustrates the Lord s extraordinary mercy. Mercy demands taking initiative and risk. Jesus was not asked for help but he was moved with pity and consoles the dead man s mother. He risks by touching the dead man s coffin which rendered him ritually impure according to Jewish law and custom. We are very glad that in this Jubilee Year of Mercy, many of our parishioners are taking initiatives and some risks performing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Take a look at the garland of mercy hanging above the entrance of our church. They are concrete reminders to all of us of those who are doing and receiving many works of mercy in our own community & families. We hope the garland will fill up the hangers up to the corner of the main door till the end of Jubilee Year. We are back to the color of green in our church for the next several months. June and summer months evoke verdant shade of green, that trees resplendent with new leaves until Fall comes and new season of Advent comes back again. And talking about leaves of tree, - right there at our church entrance foyer, you see the Leaf it to the Life Teen tree. We need more leaves to blossom the tree we still need more donors. Please consider helping the Life Teen achieve their fundraising goal. The Youth retreat at Steubenville alone last year $15, Your help and charity are indeed concrete acts of mercy, may the Lord rewards you. On another vein, I will be taking a month long vacation starting next Sunday (June 12 and be back by July 10). Fr. Ted Torralba & Fr. Fred Ablog will be covering priestly services here in my absence. Blessings to all and have a good week! Fr. No tengas miedo! Dame tu mano!" Padre Tony

In this Jubilee Year, we are asked to open our eyes and hearts to see how God is working in our lives and to more actively spread His mercy out to others. We are creating a Garland of Mercy with our teen group to bear witness to our efforts to help others. For the entire year, we are asking each week when you do works of mercy, to write down one or more works on the strips of paper in the ends of the pews. Please put them into the collection basket so that we offer up, not just our treasure to the Lord, but our time and talent in a visible way. Red Strips are for The Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, clothing the needy, visiting the sick or imprisoned. White Strips are for The Spiritual Works of Mercy: Counseling the doubtful, bearing wrongs patiently, forgiving offences willingly and praying for the living and the dead. Gold Ones are for the acts of mercy which we received from others. I know that all of you are part of spreading God s mercy out into the world. Please take the time to become more conscious of it and take credit for it here before the Lord.
