1 NOVEMBER Living a Life of Gratude Autumn is a season blessed in abundance. Our gardens provide the last fruits of our labor pumpkins for carving, potatoes and squash for baking, apples for pie making lling our home with scents, bringing us the comfort of family. As our gardens ful ll the promise of bounty, I am reminded of God s promises to us. God does not promise a world without sorrow or pain, but God does promise strength, grace and undying love. In a world lled with strife we may nd it di"cult to believe in God s promises. Take a look around, the sun sll comes up every morning and the stars sll shine bright in the sky at night. Each day brings the promise of a new beginning, an opportunity to start anew. God s promise lives on. What we choose to do with this gi# is up to us. We can face the day with hope and a joyful heart, recognizing God s promise in even the simplest of things. The smile on the face of a child, a thank you from the person we open a door for. We can give thanks for the food on our table and the opportunity to bless others with the abundance sll owing in from the garden. We can choose to by Linda Olson give thanks for a life well lived through generosity to others. We can pray for what weighs heavy on our hearts and for the gi#s we have been given through a God who loves us. It s not hard to make a list of negave things in our world, but I challenge you to make another list a list of thanksgiving. A list of every blessing you see throughout your day. When we open our eyes to the posive things in our life, our hearts become lighter, hope shines brighter and our a%tude improves. Live a life of gratude, a life of abundance, a life provided by a God who loves you. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:11 Thanksgiving Community Meal November 24, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm See inside for details on how you can get involved with this meal...providing food, se!ng up, serving, or cleaning up.
2 VISION UPDATE Land and Building Update On Tuesday, November 1, the Prince of Peace Board of Directors unanimously approved recommending a building opon for congregaonal vote in December. The recommended opon is a complete transformaon of the exisng Worship Center space and an addion of approximately 25,000 square feet on the east side of the Worship Center. New and heavily remodeled space will house all of our ministries under one roof and provide a completely new face and clear front door. The addion would include a large welcoming space at the entry, a grand staircase and clear way- nding and greater accessibility to the Sanctuary, which will remain on the second oor. Mission Outpost would have more e ecve space in the Worship Center building. New and exisng space in the Worship Center will be more exible and mul-funconal. When complete, all ministries would move from the Chrisan Life Center building, which could then be leased to provide addional revenue to nance construcon costs. This Transformaon opon extends the life of our current building, honors the legacy of our past, and is responsible, long-term stewardship of our resources. Land and Building Forums You are invited to a end 1 of 8 idencal informaonal forums. A presentaon will be given outlining the Worship Center transformaon concept, followed by a Q & A. In the Community Room, Worship Center: Monday, November 7 at 7:30 pm Tuesday, November 8 at 7:30 am Wednesday, November 9 at 1:00 pm Sunday, November 13 at 9:30 and 10:45 am In the Family Room, Chrisan Life Center: Wednesday, November 9 at 5:40 and 6:40 pm In the Chapel, Chrisan Life Center: Sunday, November 20 at 10:45 am Informaon is also available on our website at popmn.org/land-building-blog.
3 UP with God Season of Advent: Living Promise by Paul Dean One of my favorite things to do when I was a kid was to play catch with my dad, but what would really get my heart racing was hearing my dad promise to me that when he came home that evening we would play catch. That simple promise would change my whole day and I would spend my day doing my part to make sure we would have enough!me for that promise to come true. I prepared for the promise by ge"ng my homework done, compe!ng my chores, crea!ng space for the promise. It was a living promise from my dad, a promise that was alive in real!me and at the same!me it was also a promise that I lived into. God makes promises to us as well, living promises that change us as we live into the promise of hope, light, God s Spirit and ul!mately the promise of the birth of Jesus. As we move into the season of Advent, a season of an!cipa!on, the living promise of God has been made to you. Our hope this Advent season is for you to live into that promise, crea!ng space in your life for the promise to be made real in you. Let us join together in worship, in our small groups living God s promise together. May God s living promise set your heart racing, changing you. November 26-27: Promise of Hope December 3-4: Promise of the Spirit December 10-11: Promise of the Light December 17-18: Promise of Birth December 24-25: Promise Ful#lled Light the Advent Candles Families and individuals are invited to light the Advent candles at all worship services during Advent. Environmental destruc on has its biggest impact on the poor and future genera ons. As stewards of God s crea on, we should be very concerned. But perhaps the biggest concern the average person has about mi ga on is the cost: would it threaten our jobs, harm the economy, or diminish our boun ful lives? It may come as a surprise that inac on has a higher cost. The POP Crea on Care small group is a member of InterFaith Crea on Care: South Metro who is sponsoring this event. We are a group of advocates from nine churches who meet to support and encourage each other in caring for God s crea on. We meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at Ebenezer Care Center, east of our church s parking lot. Call Curt Carlson at if you have ques ons about the event or group. 7 OUT for the World Mission Outpost...Why You May Want to Volunteer! by Eric Elton & Mariel Vinge The Mission Outpost relies on volunteers to provide food, clothes, basic household items, furniture, and dental services to families in the community. Volunteers of all ages and abili"es are welcome to support this vital ministry. We need volunteers to stock the food shelf, sort dona"ons, pack food orders, #eld phone calls, enter data and #le paperwork, deliver furniture, provide dental care, provide a welcoming environment, support families moving out of poverty, and to develop rela"onships with families who visit Mission Outpost. We need you - there is a lot to do! Mission Outpost depends on volunteers who are able to commit weekly or occasionally, but we welcome anyone who is interested to join in on the fun. That s right, fun! We have fun while we work because we serve out of the joy of our hearts. God has blessed us with life, abundantly, which we are glad to share with others in the name of Jesus. Volunteering at the Mission Outpost is one way we can thank God for the life and love we receive in Christ. If you are looking for an opportunity to exercise your faith while making a posi"ve impact on your community, come serve with us! Fair warning - volunteering at Mission Outpost will transform your life! You may become a happier, healthier, more caring person. It s true volunteers live longer, healthier lives! Over "me, volunteers build strong rela"onships with each other and #nd that they belong to a new family. This is a place to connect with others around meaningful work. Volunteers who have an opportunity to listen to families stories learn of the surprising ways God is calling us to serve. We recognize ways God is working through us and in us. Come see what God is up to at the Mission Outpost! If you have any ques"ons, please contact Mariel Vinge at or mvinge@popmn.org.
