1 St. Agnes Catholic Community 1025 Masonic Ave. San Francisco, CA Inclusive Diverse Jesuit Dear Friends, June 13 &14, 2015 One of the major consequences of Vatican II was the establishment of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.). It is a process for those who have never been baptized or those already baptized in another Christian tradition but who have never received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Our parish program begins in September and culminates with the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. It is a ninemonth program. Liturgy Schedule Sunday: 8:30am Saturday Vigil: 4:00pm 10:30am Weekdays: 6:00pm 8:30am Holy Days: 8:30am & 5:30pm Mission Statement We the people of Saint Agnes are: an inclusive urban community, rich in diversity of age, ethnicity, gender, orientation, culture, talent, & treasure; a faith community, enlivened and empowered through Baptism to celebrate and proclaim the presence of Christ among us. We declare to one and all that we commit ourselves to: grow spiritually as disciples of Christ to become men and women for others build community through hospitality, ecumenism and social & cultural events understand cultural differences and accept them as sources of enrichment give loving service & outreach to those in need promote social justice issues in our neighborhood and in the larger community of city, nation, and world. We pledge ourselves to be a light in the darkness through the love that we share in the name of Christ and through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. The R.C.I.A. process asks the participants to meet every Sunday one hour before Mass. The nine month catechesis covers the basics of our Faith striving to present a heartfelt understanding that leads to a solid commitment. Each participant has a sponsor who assists and encourages. The emphasis is on growing into the faith within the context of community. It is never me and God but we and God. Yet, there is a real concern for the interior spiritual life of the participant. Parishioners Karen Kelly and Clay Tominaga have been solid leaders of our R.C.I.A. program for many years. You personally may want to participate in this wonderful program or you may know someone who would really benefit from such an experience. It has an extraordinary effect on so many of our present parishioners. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact our office (415) and we will direct you to a contact person. You won t be sorry. This past week, Father Joe and myself attended the Diocesan Priests Retreat at Vallombrosa in Menlo Park. Approximately thirty priests made the retreat which centered on St. Francis of Assisi and Pope Francis. If you notice a halo around Fr. Joe s or my face, you will know why.

Children s Care During Liturgy Care is provided for children 18 months through 5 years of age during the Sunday 10:30 AM Mass. Our Daycare Room is located across from the daily mass chapel and is open for all Masses. Parents with children under 18 months are welcome to use the daycare room as long as at least one parent stays with the child. Ignatian Spiritual Life Center The Spiritual Life Center (1611 Oak Street) provides programs and services to the parish and larger faith community through educational programs, opportunities for prayer, and community events. Ordination Weekend for Deacon Tim McCabe, SJ St. Agnes would like to congratulate Fr. Tim McCabe on his priestly ordination this weekend in Chicago, IL. Fr. McCabe will return this fall to say Mass at St. Agnes, we will announce the date when it is confirmed. Fr. McCabe will be missioned to the Detroit area working in a parish and at a homeless organization. Please keep Tim and all the others that were ordained this weekend, in your prayers. 4 AAA Our 2015 Campaign continues. This year s assessment is $78,800. Through the generous sharing of our financial gifts, we contribute to the support of the various works of the local Church including parishes in need, education, leadership, public affairs, worship and individuals in need. 5 Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
