Dear Friends, November 19 & 20, 2016 This week two events happen that are worth our time considering. The Year of Mercy decreed by Pope Francis concludes this weekend along with the feast of Christ the King. The church has a Holy Year every 25 years, but this is an Extraordinary year because it is out of the ordinary sequence. This emphasizes the need for the church (and all of us as its members) to be more open and forgiving and merciful. That calls for some extra prayer on our part for those who need to experience the mercy of Christ. Also, as we all know, the secular feast of Thanksgiving is coming up on Thursday, Nov 24. This reminds me of a man I read about several years ago who would thank the Lord for the most unusual things. If he has a flat tire, he pulls off to the side of the road and says Thank You for the wide spot in the road so he can change it safely, for only one flat and not two since he has only one spare, for the chance to get out of the car and stretch his back, and for the opportunity for some fresh air and a little exercise. The article went on to suggest some things we might consider in our thanksgiving list: The mess to clean up after a party which means I have been surrounded by friends; the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat; all the complaining I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech; the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I am alive; the lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means that I can hear; and even the piles of laundry and ironing because it means my loved ones are nearby. In the spirit of the Year of Mercy that we are completing, we might not only offer peace and reconciliation and forgiveness to those that get on our nerves the most, but try to find things to thank the Lord for about them. The search, if we look for the unusual like the man I read about, might even be fun.

Children s Care during Liturgy Care is provided for children 18 months through 5 years of age during the Sunday 10:30 AM Mass. Our Daycare Room is located across from the daily mass chapel and is open for all Masses. Parents with children under 18 months are welcome to use the daycare room as long as at least one parent stays with the child. Ignatian Spiritual Life Center The Spiritual Life Center (1611 Oak Street) provides programs and services to the parish and larger faith community through educational programs, opportunities for prayer, and community events. During the Presentation of the Gifts there will be an offering to benefit the St. Agnes Food Pantry. Please consider bringing non-perishable food items or monetary donations. Pasta sauce, peanut butter, cereal and canned green veggies are especially needed. Children s Christmas Choir Rehearsals for the Children s choir in preparation for the 5:00 pm Christmas Eve Eucharistic Liturgy will start Sunday, Nov 27 through Dec. 18 th. Rehearsals are on Sundays at 9:30 am 10 am. Parents are asked to be in the Church while rehearsal is going on.

4 Communal Reconciliation Service In preparation for Christmas, Saint Agnes will host a Reconciliation Service on Saturday, December 17 th at 11am. This will be a communal Reconciliation Service. During the service the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated. ONGOING AT THE IGNATIAN SPIRITUAL LIFE CENTER Tuesday Morning Mindfulness Tuesdays at 9:00 am 10:00 am Monday Morning Mindfulness has CHANGED to Tuesdays Each week the Tuesday Morning Mindfulness group seeks to carve out a space for communal prayer amidst the busyness of our daily lives. 5 Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Stewardship Prayer Lord and source of all gifts, I rejoice in the fullness of your generosity. I thank you for those whose lives are visible signs of your love and blessing to others. Give me the courage to do the same. Make me a good steward of all I have received generously sharing my time, abilities and material resources to build up your kingdom of love and justice. We ask this through Jesus Christ, in whom we begin and end all things. Amen. Prayer of St. Francis (Prayer for Peace) Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
