1 April A Couple of Retreats by Trevor Waybright We have an exciting Spring coming at us full-steam ahead. We have the Ladies Retreat, Easter, ManLand, and VBS and then on to Family Camp! This is a very relational time of year here at Foundry. I just want to take some time to encourage you to take a step outside of your comfort zone, and to partake in what is going on. For some of you, this is a nobrainer. You live for these kinds of activities, and that s great. But for some of you, this is a difficult decision. I, honestly, tend to fall into the second group. I would just assume stay home and chill out in my house surrounded by the comforts of my closed off life, but that is not what is good for me. It is good for me to be around fellow Christ-followers. It is good for me to take risks and get outside of my comfort zone in community with my friends and family. It is good for me to put down some money and dedicate a weekend to being a part of the community of believers into which God has placed me. It is good for you too! Ladies, there is a retreat coming 2017 up for you this month! From April (Friday - Sunday) you will be at the Diocese of Baker retreat center in Powell Butte. It s going to be a great time of learning, praying, and hanging out. It will be a weekend that will make a difference in your life. You will learn from each other, get to know each other better, and forge valuable relationships that will last a lifetime. If you re kicking it around, but haven t committed yet, commit. It will be good for you. Men, we are headed back to Washington Family Camp May 5-7 (Friday - Sunday) for ManLand part 2! This year Kelley Jones will be our guest speaker and we cannot wait to hear what he has prepared for us. Last year, ManLand made a big impact on my life. I have strong friendships with men that I barely knew going into last year as a direct result of that time together. I cannot wait to get back and see what happens this year! If you think that this isn t for you or that you don t need something like this, then that is a sure sign that you do! Sign up, dive in and join us for ManLand It will be good for you. info 60 NW Oregon Bend, OR (541) info@bend.org a heart for Bend in the heart of Bend at a glance TEACHING ELDER TREVOR@FOUNDRYBEND.ORG WORSHIP MARK@FOUNDRYBEND.ORG 01 adoption potluck, please rsvp sara evans, food pantry sunday 03 elder meeting, 6:00pm 08 men s breakfast, 7:30am 08 safe families training, 9-3pm 09 vbs planning meeting 14 good friday service/potluck 16 easter sunday, no sunday school 17 elder meeting, 6pm Women s Retreat 30 family sunday birthdays 01 John Asmussen 01 Doug Barram 01 Joyce Gann 02 Tawnya Meyer 07 Ed Neff 07 Loretta Powell 08 Bill Dotson 12 Howard Winegarden 15 Tracy Sampson 17 Amber Schmied 18 Sylvia Schliep 23 John Swanson 23 Krista Appleby 24 Joel Meyer 24 Ron Wilson 25 Dorothy Graber 25 Randy Higgins 26 Mick Tye 27 Rick Arnold 29 Paul Strauser If you are 18 years of age or older, regularly attend Foundry, and not on our Birthday List, we would like to add you. 3 health by Sally Ryner WALK TO JERUSALEM: On March 25, we completed week 10 of our 12 week walk to Jerusalem. We had a slow start due to the bad weather, but recent weeks of increased activity have brought us close to our goal. The last day to count miles will be Saturday April 8. All miles must be turned in during the week of April 9, and our total accumulated miles will be announced on Easter Sunday, April 16. Health Ministries hopes this program helped you stay on track with your exercise program during these winter months, and habits have formed to keep you active for the rest of the year. BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING: There were 20 participants for the March screening. Four females and 1 male were found to have a BP elevation. The next screening will be held on May 21. Consider checking your BP if you have not done so in the past year. NATIONAL HEALTH OBSERVANCE: The Department of Health and Human Services has designated March as colorectal cancer awareness month. This is the fourth most common cancer in the U.S. and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. However, there are screenings available that can dramatically decrease these statistics. Screenings are recommended for those years of age or more often and at a younger age if one is at a higher risk for this cancer. Discuss these risks with your health care provider. These include a personal or family history of colorectal cancer, colorectal polyps, inflammatory bowel disease. Other risk factors include obesity, smoking, excess alcohol use, sedentary lifestyle and consumption of large amounts of red or processed meat. There are a variety of screening tests available and should be discussed with your health care provider and insurance company. More information on this subject may be found at or colorectal/pdf/sfl_brochure. Food Pantry Sunday Sunday, April 2nd is Food Pantry Sunday. Our food pantry has stayed steadily busy. We gave more than 10 bags of food out in one week not long ago so your donations are making a HEALTH MINISTRIES difference in the lives of the food bag recipients and we thank you for your gifts. We are also in need of brown paper bags. You can drop those off at the any time. Thank you! PRIMROSE37@BENDBROADBAND.COM
4 missions update Can you read this? Yoo tācēēminyē kēryōōsyēkyoo, ciisiil ānkunyikisyēēc :ŋala āmnyēē mācēēmēcē /cēēpuutēēc, nteenee cēēmēcē / ciiluumeeneec pōōrwoonik coo po kipkōōnkō sākuuyēēn :sāpoontaap ākookay pōōrwoonicu kāwōkupōk. It is 2 Corinthians 5:4 in Kupsapiiny. It says, While we are still living in our tents, things become heavy to us because we do not want to be unclothed, but we want to be clothed with those heavenly bodies so that these dying bodies will be covered by everlasting life. (Literal English back translation from Kupsapiiny) Uganda s Sapiiny people call their language Kupsapiiny, and they even have a New Testament. But when leaders were asked which Bible is used in their es, they answered English. Although most of the people do not understand the English Bible, it is still more meaningful to them than the difficult-to-read Kupsapiiny version. All the major es and denominations among the Sapiiny people agree that they desperately VBS need a new translation. Praise the Lord it is almost complete. Highlights: - The team s recent toprated presentation about Bible translation was a big hit, winning the support of the Kupsapiiny community in the capital. - This project challenges local people who are educated to transfer their reading ability in another language to becoming literate in their own language. - The translators continue to improve their skill in communicating in their mother tongue in print. This is crucial to conveying the biblical message. The local was learning about issues of the tongue in a study of James 3. An old lady in the congregation GLOBAL MISSIONS GOBILL@COINET.COM LOCAL MISSIONS KMAYS@COCC.EDU exclaimed, The Word of God has never been as clear to me as today. This Kupsapiiny translation is so sweet and clear that one doesn t need any further explanation. Please speed up and complete the whole Bible so we can read it before Jesus comes back. A guest paid a courtesy call to the Bible translation office. He listened to the text from Acts, which the translators were reading aloud at devotions. After the session he said, This is interesting! I ve been looking for a dictionary as I read English versions to comprehend the meaning. But today I had no problem with Kupsapiiny Acts, because the message was so understandable. It s the way we speak! I encourage you translators to press on and finish the remaining Bible books quickly! Go online for more updates projects/kupsapiiny-2.
5 children/youth kidztown Vacation Bible School is less than three months away! If you are interested in ways to be involved, please join us for an informative meeting on April 9th in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Come to find out how you can help, both during the week and in the weeks leading up to VBS. Meeting participants will be the first to learn about this year s fabulous theme and also get the first choice on volunteer assignments. So, if you are set on working in the Imagination Station or singing on stage, be sure to come and claim your spot! middle school by Randy Slocum I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, the Church Body for all the support you have given the Middle School Ministry over the last few months. We, as youth staff, are so thankful for everything you have done to support the ministry to these young people. We also want to thank the parents for your faith in us to minister to your kids. We take this responsibility seriously and know that God is using us to minister to them. It is our desire to support and encourage the families to build these students relationship with God and help them become closer to the image of God. In the next few weeks, as I am recovering from surgery and getting stronger, please keep the students in prayer as well as the staff as they minister to these students. God is at work in the lives of these students and I am excited to see them grow in Christ. My prayer is that I will be able to re-join the Middle school group in a couple of weeks depending on my recovery. In the next few weeks we will be focusing on self-esteem and that we should not get our self worth from things of this earth but from God our Father in heaven. Please be praying for the students as this is an area that is very hard for this age group, wanting to fit in with their peers and trying to follow God as well. Again we want to thank you for your support of this ministry. high school by Brian Ely KIDZTOWN TAWNYA@FOUNDRYBEND.ORG Last week, we had special guest. Matt Arbuckle came to both the middle and high school groups. Matt was able to share a bit about his journey to recovery. It was good to have Matt connecting with the groups and displaying in the flesh, God s grace and forgiveness. Having Matt there fit in well with a recent high school talk regarding the presence of God in the midst of struggles. One passage that has formed my thinking about struggles and where God is in the midst of them is found in Hosea 6:1-2, Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him. He is willing to let us experience struggles and inconveniences as ways of knowing him more deeply that we might live before him. God wants us to know him better through the difficult times. Thank you for continuing to lift up our middle and high school kids as they grow in their trust in God.
