Summit Ministries is a Christian Worldview Conference designed to teach students (ages 16-22) how to analyze the various ideas that are competing for their hearts and minds. It is an intensive two-week retreat that covers all sorts of topics - evolution, homosexuality, abortion, theology, apologetics, Islam and so on. It is an excellent balance of lectures, Q&A times and plain old fun. When I first attended Summit at the age of nineteen, it honestly changed my life. The conference helped me draw closer to the Lord and equipped me to defend my faith. During my time there, I quickly learned that there are satisfying answers to most of the difficult questions we all have, and that there are compelling reasons to believe that is true. This two-week conference sparked in me the desire to become a reader and a seeker of truth, and that desire has never left me since. Unlike most conferences, the majority of the content you learn seems to be etched into your memory and it s easily accessible to use in conversations with others. What about Summit helps you internalize the information? I think part of the reason is because you have the opportunity to dialogue with experts in different fields and to also discuss the content with others your age. Summit is unique. It is effective. And it is fun. Above every camp and conference our youth attend, I recommend Summit Ministries above them all. 3 The Great Comeback Sports Camp is for Children ages six to 12. This camp combines professional basketball and volleyball training and instruction from college athletes with games, music, Bible study, snacks, and more! Webster City Middle School 9 a.m. to noon. This year's theme is "The Great Comeback" based on John 14:1-3. Here's more about the theme: "Great comebacks, we have all seen them! Think about the quarterback who passes for the winning touchdown with only seconds left in the game, the baseball player who hits a home run in the bottom of the 9th, or the point guard who hits a three pointer at the buzzer to win by one. These finishes are thrilling to say the least. Your heart races at the very thought of the ultimate moment when victory is grasped from the jaws of defeat. God is the master of great comebacks. Through the messengers of His purpose for man, He has demonstrated His ability to come through just when it looked as though His purpose would be thwarted. 4 Missions Focus for May, Short Term Missions Short-term missionaries proved long ago that they make a significant contribution to the cause of Christ, Peter N. Nanfelt, former C&MA president. Many Alliance people go overseas to be involved in short-term missions every year. They come alongside the Alliance long-term missionaries to aid them in their efforts to bring the word of God to those who have not heard it. This can be accomplished in many different forms. Technical computer support, teaching Sunday school or bible studies, building churches, cleaning hospitals, help in orphanages, and financial advisor are just a few ways to service. Your talents can be used in many ways. Envision is a branch of the C&MA where you can get involved in short-term missions. What are the goals of Envision? To equip all who want to join God in what He is doing around the world. To match short-term workers with long-term international workers who need short-term help. Sites and Labs are the two main branches of Envision. Sites: Envision has 20 Sites where there are opportunities to see and be actively involved in what God is doing around the world. This could be with local churches, in a city, or in the remote rural settings. Short-term missionaries experience discipleship while serving under the long-term workers. Labs: Specific experiences tailored to shape leadership and faith. Envision has three Labs: Films, Campaigns, and Summit. Films: Explore the intersection of faith and culture. Campaigns: Offer tangible ways to make a difference in social justice issues. Summit: A yearly gathering that provides young influencers with a week-long leadership experience in an international setting. Four Views of the End Times Wednesdays beginning May 11 at 7 This study focuses first and foremost on Jesus the Messiah, the One through whom God the Father will make all things new. Woven through this study of Jesus the Revelation, you will find straightforward, Scripture centered examinations of four viewpoints that Christians throughout history have embraced as they looked toward the end of time.
