1 Letter from Mr. Hamilton There is an old proverb which reads, Give me a fish and I eat for a day - teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime. One of the great things about a child spending 7 1/2 hours of their day (for 180 days out of the year) at a Catholic school, is that each child can pray whenever and wherever they wish during those hours. Many of those prayers are memorized, but the real challenge is to teach them how to pray in their own words. We can give them a prayer and they can read it, but teach them to pray from the heart and they will develop a closer, more personal relationship with God the Father, Jesus His Son, and the Holy Spirit that will last a lifetime. At graduation we sometimes hear speeches about taking what was learned and applying it or taking the tools taught to them and using them to the best of their ability. Often times, graduates are encouraged to continue down the righteous path of receiving the Sacraments and to continue practicing the Catholic faith by making good choices and going to church on Sunday. We can give these graduates tools, open doors, and opportunities, but by teaching them what it really means to be a child of God and to walk in the path of Jesus, we fill them with the spiritual nourishment they need to live a life of faith, hope, and love. Maybe you heard the phrase, Great teachers teach from the heart. I would add, Exceptional teachers not only teach from the heart, they teach to the heart and make it grow. This is what we do at St. Gabriel School teach to the heart with heart. Thank you, teachers for another great year. You do so much more than give children fish to eat. You provide the foundation of faith which promotes continuous growth through the power of the Holy Spirit, on a journey with Christ, to be with God the Father in heaven. Here is a great bible verse that sums this up nicely. 2 Timothy 3:14-15 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Wisconsin Child Sales Tax Rebate: Sound fiscal management and a strong economy have resulted in a state budget surplus of almost $400 million for the State of Wisconsin. Governor Walker and the State Legislature have determined that some of the surplus should be returned to taxpayers in the form of a Child Sales Tax Rebate. It is a $100 rebate for sales and use tax paid on purchases made for raising a dependent child in The filing start date is May 15, 2018 and the filing deadline is July 2, Go to childtaxrebate.wi.gov on or after May 15 to apply. $crip During The Summer: Are you wondering how you can still purchase your $crip during the summer? It will be available on Mondays and Fridays at St. Gabriel Church from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. You also can stop after the weekend Masses

The container will be located on the west side of the school's parking lot. Thank You: I just want to thank all of you for my wonderful retirement celebration. I was amazed and overwhelmed by all of those who came, especially former students. St. Gabriel School has been my life for the past 17 years. I have been honored to work with so many fantastic students and families. You will always be in my heart and in my prayers. God bless you all! Never say goodbye... so see you! Congratulations To Some St. Gabriel Alumni: We would like to congratulate Cy Brehm (son of Terry and Kevin Brehm) and TJ Driver (son of Theresa and Dennis Driver). Cy and TJ are competing in the State of Wisconsin Economics Quiz Bowl. And, also congratulations to Marie Brehm (daughter of Terry and Kevin Brehm). Marie is being inducted into the National Honor Society. These three are students at Pius XI Catholic High School. News From Miss Littel: I am so proud of this year's First Graders! They recently took their Spring PALS test to measure their growth in reading skills this year. The students averaged one grade level and a half of growth in their reading skills! Some students even gained 2 or more grade levels in their reading skills! This is fantastic news and shows that all of their hard work and practice has really paid off. Great job, First Graders! ~Miss Littel Girls Volleyball Sign Up: It's time to sign up for the coming Fall for girls volleyball. A sheet came home last week. If your child is interested in playing or you would like to coach, please be sure to return the form by May 30. HSA Meetings: Please be sure to mark your calendars for our monthly HSA meetings. The meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the School Library. Everyone is welcome to attend. Richfield Days Parade Float - Save The Date! St. Gabriel School will be having a float in the Richfield Days Parade on August 26, We are looking for parents to be on the Float Decorating Team as well as walkers on the day of the parade (approximately 10 adults to hand out school marketing materials and 10 children to ride

4 the float). Please contact Savanna Ferr to sign up for the Float Decorating Team and/or parade participants. If you will be in the parade, we will need your shirt size and indicate if it is a men's, women's or youth shirt. We Want Your Used But Good School Supplies: Mrs. Herro, one of our After School Learning Program Teachers, is collecting any used but still good school supplies. These items will be sent by the Allenton Lions Club as a continuing effort to supply the Belize children with useful supplies to continue their education. We are collecting: - spiral bound notebooks (written pages removed) - markers that still work - pencils that are sharpened - any other misc. school supplies A collection box will be outside the School Office labeled 'BELIZE" School Supplies. Thank you in advance for any contribution. Free Circus Tickets: We have a supply of free tickets in the School Office for the Garden Bros. Circus which will be held on June 2 and 3 at the Waukesha Expo Center. The ticket admits one child ages 2-13 free with a paid adult. If you are interested, please contact the School Office. Show Your School Spirit: Remember to show your school spirit by either putting a window cling or sticker in your vehicle. Two sayings are available: "Ask me about St. Gabriel Catholic Parish School" or We love our St. Gabriel Family" These are free to you and an easy way to show your support.
