There was a live stage show, music on the Mighty Wurlitzer, and always my favorite an episode of the serial movie presentation of Flash Gordon. By today s standards, the special effects of this black and white production were amateurish; but to an 8 year old in that day, it was exciting stuff. The action would play out on the screen, and just when it got to a critical scene that had you on the edge of your seat, across the screen flashed the words To Be Continued. You had to come back the next week to see the next part of the story! TV series do the same thing to us these days. The Christian story is like that. It didn t end 2,000 years ago on a cross, or even at the empty tomb. Jesus commissioned disciples the church to continue what he began, Go make of all disciples We are a part of the continuing story of what God wants to do through Jesus, in our time and place. Someone told that story to us, and now it is our time to tell the story to others. There are so many remarkable ways that story is being told in and through the ministry of Trinity. In this Tidings, you can read some of those stories. You will read about the remarkable growth in our ministry. And you are invited to take your place on stage and become a part of this story through your active commitment. If the story of Jesus is to be told in our time and place, then we must do the telling. Mr. Isaiah @ SOS Keeping your hands dirty keeps your heart clean Each summer, Element Student Ministry takes high school students to SOS (Service Over Self ) in Memphis, TN.

On the second day on the worksite, Mr. Isaiah came to visit. When he asked the students what church they were with and was told Trinity, he immediately started asking about certain students by name.

He came back again to the worksite another day bearing, in his arms, his worn scrap book our students had helped him make.

5 Mr. SOS Keeping your hands dirty keeps your heart clean Each summer, Element Student Ministry takes high school students to SOS (Service Over Self ) in Memphis, TN. SOS is an organization with a mission to make homes in Memphis warmer, safer and dryer. There is a special story from this summer s SOS trip about a man named Mr. Isaiah. On the second day on the worksite, Mr. Isaiah came to visit. When he asked the students what church they were with and was told Trinity, he immediately started asking about certain students by name. He even recalled what sports they were involved with, like golf and volleyball! Mr. Isaiah had his house worked on by our team several years ago. He came back again to the worksite another day bearing, in his arms, his worn scrap book our students had helped him make. He showed pictures of the progress of the work that was done on his house, of our youth team who had worked on it, and even the sweet notes they had written him. Obviously, our students made an impact, not just on his house that year, but on his heart. They showed him the heart of Christ through serving. Ben Hancock, a former Trinity student who worked at SOS this summer, was a team leader for the week. At one of the devotions, as we were picking at our tar encrusted fingers Ben said, Keeping your hands dirty keeps your heart clean. It is trips like these that help to refocus our students. From the moment you arrive at SOS, you experience what it means to serve others over yourself. In meeting people like Mr. Isaiah we experience the true meaning of service. - Caroline Hare Through our giving, students are able to particiapte in SOS. Great & Meaningful Impressions Time and talent goes deeper than we think My story isn t one of how I came to Christianity or to Trinity, but one of thanks for those who give their time and talents to the children and families here. I grew up in a small rural UMC and was in the same Sunday school class and room from 2nd grade through high school. On a big Sunday we had maybe 6 kids in that class. The curriculum for the class was pretty basic because it had to cover such a wide age range. We sat and took turns reading the lesson each week. Dreading my turn reading aloud, I took nothing from the lesson. It left me with less knowledge about Jesus than other friends... and I attended Sunday school and church regularly. It wasn t until I had a role in our county theater production of Godspell in high school where I learned Jesus parables, teachings and interpretations. It hit me how late I learned these when my own child and the other children at Trinity can tell me the parables at such a young age. This calls for a big THANK YOU to Trinity s preschool and elementary teachers. Their time and talent goes deeper than we think.
