Seventh Sunday of Easter Welcome to Northeastern Presbyterian Church. You are welcome here. Whatever motivation propelled you through our doors this morning... you belong here because you are here, and all that you have and all that you are is welcome here. We come together to meet with God, to express our fellowship in the Lord Jesus, and to take our part in the building of Christ s church. We praise and thank God for goodness towards us, hear from God s Holy Word, and pray for the world, and for ourselves. Prelude **We stand with our hearts or our postures Do Not Enter SOZ refers to the Songs of Zion hymnal WE GATHER AS GOD'S PEOPLE IN PRAISE AND PRAYER Choral Introit Choir "Almighty God of Our Fathers" - Will James The Chancel Greetings **Invocation **Call to Worship We come to this place of prayer, for here we can bring our hopes and dreams, our hidden fears and the doubts we wear on our sleeves. We come to this place of grace, for here we learn compassion and joy, and discover how deeply we are loved.

We come with these people called the church, to be blessed by the variety of gifts, to live as one for our God. *Hymn #467, Hymnal How Great Thou Art Prayer Of Confession All: Plastic cards, shiny cars, brick and glass homes - what idols we fashion with our hands, how much energy and time serving them occupy our hearts! Let us confess how we have misplaced our priorities, and seek the One who asks us to be first in our lives. Enslaved to sin, we cannot see the lives we lead, God of Glory. Each day, and every day, there are those times when we ignore you and your dreams for us. Each week, and every week, we find the time to ridicule others, when we could have affirmed them. Each moment, and every moment, though we do not want to admit it, we seek our own way rather than skipping down your path of joy and obedience. We come asking forgiveness for our foolish lives, Eternal Blessing. Deliver us, and break the chains of sin and death which hold us captive. Open us to that grace you offer, and give us the gift of the Spirit so we may live as people of the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ. God s Good News Announcements Silence is kept In the beginning was God, and at the end will be God, and in every moment in between, there is God: creating, redeeming, sustaining us. And through Christ, gracious love is poured into our empty souls; through the Spirit, peace becomes the gift we can share with those around us. Thanks be to God. Amen. Welcome to our Visitors **Passing the Peace #114, SOZ Ain t Dat Good News? May the peace of Christ be with you! And also with you! WE EXPERIENCE GOD'S WORD

CHILDREN S MESSAGE Elder Jennifer Allen Response #304, Hymnal Me Jesus Loves Invitation to the Offering God invites us to give the testimony of our hearts in practical offerings of money and time. Therefore, let us testify to God s love by bringing our gifts. Offertory Choir **Doxology #592, Hymnal The Chancel Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow **Prayer of Dedication Jesus has made God known to us. We already belong to God. And so we dedicate these gifts to God s service and to the glory of God s name. Amen. Anthem The Lord Is My Shepherd" - Schubert The Chancel Choir Prayer for Illumination May the reading of your Word sanctify us in the truth and bring us to perfect joy. Amen. Sermonic Selection Mrs. Monica Johnson, Mrs. Patricia Renfro Mrs. Shawnee Ball Message It Takes A Village Elder Cynthia Gervais WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORD *A MOTHER S DAY LITANY Lord, on this day set aside to honor and remember mothers, we give you thanks for our mothers. We are grateful that you chose to give us life through

them, and that they received the gift of life from your hands, and gave it to us. Thank you for the sacrifices they made in carrying us and giving us birth. We thank you for the women who raised us, who were our mothers in childhood. Whether birth mom, adopted mom, older sister, aunt, grandmother, stepmother or someone else, we thank you for those women who held us and fed us, who cared for us and kissed away our pain. We pray that our lives may reflect the love they showed us, and that they would be pleased to be called our moms. We pray for older moms whose children are grown. Grant them joy and satisfaction for a job well done. We pray for new moms experiencing changes they could not predict. Grant them rest and peace as they trust you for the future. We pray for pregnant women who will soon be moms. Grant them patience and good counsel in the coming months. We pray for moms who face the demands of single parenthood. Grant them strength and wisdom. We pray for moms who enjoy financial abundance. Grant them time to share with their families. We pray for moms who are raising their children in poverty. Grant them relief and justice. We pray for step- moms. Grant them patience and understanding and love. We pray for moms who are separated from their children. Grant them faith and hope. We pray for moms in marriages that are in crisis. Grant them support and insight. We pray for moms who have lost children. Grant them comfort in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We pray for mothers who aborted their children. Grant them healing and peace. We pray for moms who gave up their children for adoption. Grant them peace and confidence as they trust in your providence. We pray for adoptive mothers. Grant them joy and gratitude for the gift you have provided. We pray for girls and women who think about being moms. Grant them wisdom and discernment. We pray for women who desperately want, or wanted, to be moms. Grant them grace to accept your timing and will. We pray for all women who have assumed the mother s role in a child s life. Grant them joy and the appreciation of others. We pray for those people present who are grieving the loss of their mother.

All: Grant them comfort and hope in Christ s resurrection. Lord, we thank you for the gift of motherhood. We thank you for the many examples of faithful mothers in scripture, like Sarah, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Lois. Hear now the first names of other women who have inspired us by their motherly examples (please call out the name of your motherly example)... We are mindful this day of all these women, and especially Mary the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, who had the courage in faith to say yes to your calling. May these women gathered here today emulate these examples of faith. And may they model for all the rest of us what it means to be your disciple. Bless them on this special day; in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. WE GO FORTH TO LOVE AND SERVE GOD AND NEIGHBOR **Hymn #53, SOZ Arms Leaning on the Everlasting **Charge and Blessing Choral Benediction "Blessing of Aaron" (Please Be Seated until after the Postlude) Postlude: "Hymn to Joy" - arr. Albert L. Travis LECTIONARY: ACTS16:16-.34; PSALM 97; REVELATION 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21; JOHN 17:20-26 Liturgist: Elder Shirley Logan Greeters: Elder Angela Hemphill and Kathy Spencer
