1 Pompton Reformed Church 59 Hamburg Tpk Pompton Lakes, NJ Pastor s Note: We just celebrated our first baptism since we returned to the renovated sanctuary with the new support beams. It was a joy. And I was grateful also for the parent support system I see in this congregation. In Pompton Reformed Church you have a year round interest in affirming mothers and fathers. Mother s Day is in May and Father s Day follows in June. Here are some early gifts and blessings I am grateful to see in our church family. > Thank you to the Elders and Mission/Outreach team for addressing again recently how we as a church might be a supportive partner to parents. Their notes from an interview time will energize even more development. >Thank you to the Christian Education team and Fellowship Committee for meeting with parents of Elementary Youth on Palm Sunday morning, opening more awareness of how we can be a supportive partner. >Thank you to all parents and grandparents of Elementary Children present on Palm Sunday. You opened dialogue on the challenges of developing the character and spiritual strength of children, and addressing how the church can be a partner with you. > Thank you to the Wednesday afternoon Discovery Group which addressed the Bible passage below. We talked about the power of intergenerational communication. They raised awareness to me of new options available today to build strength of character and spiritual strength for our young people. Pastor Mel The LORD our God is the only true God! So love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, and strength. Memorize his laws and tell them to your children over and over again. Talk about them all the time, whether you re at home or walking along the road or going to bed at night, or getting up in the morning. Write down copies and tie them to your wrists and foreheads to help you obey them. Write these laws on the door frames of your homes and on your town gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9
2 May Moments By Elaine Peacock May is here and there are three special days to honor, remember and reflect during this month. First is Mother s Day, May 14th, whether your mom is still here or she is a memory you hold in your heart, take the time this day to reflect on what makes or made your Mom so special. The second day is Armed Forces Day, May 20 th. This is the official birthday of all branches of the Armed Forces so stop and take a moment to say a prayer for all our men and women in uniform and thank them for protecting us on land, sea and in the air. The third day is Memorial Day, May 29 th, the day we stop our busy day to day lives to reflect and honor all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. So to all the Mothers, Happy Mother s Day, Happy Birthday to our Armed Forces and on Memorial Day stop and take a moment to remember those who we lost defending our freedom. ROUNDTABLE OF THANKS THANK YOU TO LESLEE FERRAY FOR HER WONDERFUL CREATIVITY IN DECORATING THE DISPLAY CASE BY THE SANCTUARY. THE DISPLAYS ARE ENJOYED BY ALL. THANK YOU TO ELENA VAN SCHAACK FOR GETTING ALL THE FLOWERS AND PALMS FOR HOLY WEEK. THE FLOWERS ON THE CROSS ARE JUST BEAUTIFUL ALONG WITH ALL THE PALMS. THANK YOU TO THE FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE FOR HELPING WITH THE PALM SUNDAY BREAKFAST AND FOR ALL YOU DO FOR PRC. Scholarship Application Packets Available: High school seniors and college students may obtain packets for the PRC scholarship application from the Church office. Student must be a worshipping member of PRC, or a dependent of a PRC member. The deadline for return of all application materials is May 14, Upcoming Sunday Mornings: May 7- Sermon: Gratitude for Generations with Fulfilling Faith May 14- A Presentation of Future Hopes for Pompton Reformed Guest Speaker: Rev. Stephen Rozzelle, Christ Church, Pompton Lakes May 21- Guest speaker: NY Giants strength coach, Jerry Palmieri (retired), will speak about how his relationship with Christ strengthened him in his career and gave him opportunities to enrich the lives of some influential players.
3 New York Giants Coach to speak here May 21! New York Giants Strength and Conditioning Coach for 12 years, Jerry Palmieri, will speak at Pompton Reformed Church Sunday May 21 at the 10 am worship service. He will describe how his Christian faith has helped him in his career and in his coaching of many career players. Mr. Palmieri was on the NY Giants staff that won two Super Bowl championships (2007 and 2011). In an earlier career he was a three-time New Jersey Golden Gloves champion ( ) and competed in international competitions as a member of the 1978 and 1979 USA Boxing Teams. He is a 1980 graduate of Montclair State University. He reports that because he had accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, he found greater meaning and purpose for his life. He also found more strength to preserver through uncertainties. After becoming a football coach, he found greater purpose and success as he committed himself to reach and vitalize fine young men and women with awareness of the fulfilling life they could know, living in relationship with Jesus Christ. Whether you follow sports or not, you will find this speaker describes dialogues that can help us all see possibilities of being influential in the development of people around us. 8 Help Support Our Scholarship Fund: Extending our past practice of supporting the scholarships of PRC students through a direct contribution, a special envelope has been provided in your envelope packet for this purpose. We will be receiving this special offering on Sunday, May 21. Special gifts and Memorials dedicated to the Scholarship Fund are another important means of supporting our youth. These gifts are welcome throughout the year. Memorial gifts and donations to the Scholarship Fund are an excellent way to express your belief that religion and education must work together in providing the basic knowledge for our youth to be successful and lead purposeful lives. If you are grateful for what education has provided for you or a member of our church family, what better way to say thank you than to invest in the youth of our church. Thank you, church family member, for your initiatives. Thank you to the many church leaders and support people who give hours each week in thought and deed toward building and keeping vital our church family. You enable us to experience and convey the love and grace of Jesus Christ. The Consistory is always interested in your feedback, insights, and suggestions. Present Consistory members are: Deacons Elder Care Teams Joe Apgar Charles Quant (A - C) Fran Bierwas Barbara Pierce (D G) George Buckman Mark Warner (H L) Barbara Chickey Nancy Begin (M Pi) Elizabeth Hanisch Elaine Peacock (Po S) Vincent Iraggi Eva Terhune (T W) You are invited to speak with your Elder representative about any personal concerns as well as suggestions you have related to church life.
