Little Lambs will begin after the Children s Sermon, around 10:45 a.m. Children, along with a parent, are invited to gather together for fun and learning about Jesus love. Our Saviour s Lutheran Church Council Minutes January 21 st, 2014 Present: Pastor Kurt, Jim Pierce, Elizabeth Panzer, Mark Emrick, Tom Regan, Jim Leppla, Kara Lendved, Wendy Seegers, Steve Bartell, Brian Westerbur, Diane Bezella Absent: Pastor Dee, Alan Babcock, Pete Bailen, Joan Heller, Brian Knoke 1. Devotions: Our meeting opened at 6:35pm with devotions led by Pastor Kurt. Council members shared prayer requests. 2. Minutes: Minutes from the December 10 th, 2013 meeting were approved. 3. Pastoral Perspectives: Pastor Kurt shared thanks on behalf of all council members as well as pastoral staff to the outgoing members of OSLC 2013 council including Wendy Seegers, Mark Emrick and Brian Knoke. He also noted that he will be directing more of his attention toward connections with the SALT group and Pastor Dee will be focusing on Young At Heart. 4. Staff and Committee Reports: Written reports are reviewed by council in advance of each council meeting. These reports are on file in the church office. Only issues raised by committee chairs for discussion are recorded in the minutes. In January, council did spend some time focusing on 2014 council nominations. Technology: Council had some discussion with regard to the microphones as well as one of the projectors needing upgrades in the very near future. Pete Bailen will be working with a provider in order to secure appropriate estimates. Youth Ministry: Brian Westerbur was present and helped to answer questions pertaining to both adult and youth mission trips as well as the fundraising involved and planned for this year. Stewardship: Our church s number of pledges and amount pledged is down. The proposed budget has been reduced about $15,000 for the upcoming year. Tom Regan indicated that we have many nonpledging units that support the church on a regular basis. While we will need to continue to monitor our budget closely during the year, the feeling was that we have a realistic budget based on past experience. Jim Leppla indicated we have approximately 85 electronic giving units and an increase in this number would help level our monthly cash flow. 5. Old Business: There was an update by Pastor Kurt with regard to Craig LeBeau in that he is slated to work approximately 15 hours per week. However, lately with the extensive snow removal, it has been more like 20 hours per week with it hopefully leveling off very soon. There was discussion of the annual meeting on January 26, Brian Knoke would be there to lead the meeting with council members together to answer any questions from the congregation, including the introduction and overview of the pastoral sabbatical policy. Jim Pierce updated this council on nominations and current council members, those going off council and also those who have been contacted and have accepted a call for open positions. Voting will happen at the annual meeting on January 26, New Business: Jim Pierce noted that he had also contacted the Appleton Park/Rec Department in relation to the annual picnic for Our Saviour s. Council had discussion on the remaining dates in June available for Memorial Park and other possible options and/or venues. Pastor Kurt stated that he felt there should be some training of ushers and/or other volunteers with regard to the AED defibrillator in the church hall. He wanted for all to know where it was located in case of an emergency and noted that there were many in our church who were trained in using it. 7. Financial Overview: Complete financial reports are available in the church office. As of the December meeting, there is $35, in the bank. The line of credit balance is at $33, Adjournment: The meeting adjourned after the Lord s Prayer at 9:00pm. Respectfully Submitted, Diane Bezella Next Council Meeting: Mar. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
