Back pg. From the Pastor s Desk... How comfortable are you in answering ques ons about your faith? Are you comfortable answering other ques- ons about yourself? I think that even those of us who have no problem answering ques ons about our career choices, who and why we love lovedones, or just about any ques on under the sun, hesitate when asked ques ons about our faith. I wonder why? Could it be that we simply have had more prac ce in answering the other ques ons. Every job interviewer asks us, why do you want this job?. Our family and loved-ones are something we look forward to talking to others about. You know, "How are the kids or the grand kids?" We will talk for hours about them. Why not our faith? Recently I was asked the ques- on. "Why do you a end worship?" Now I need to admit that even I, with a Religious Studies Major and four years of seminary resul ng in a Masters of Divinity and Ordina on, needed to pause and collect thoughts on how I would answer the ques on. I think my first thought was have I ever answered this ques on before?. What if one of our children asked this ques on or any ques on pertaining to our faith? Many of us grew up in a me when we all went to church and if we were bold enough to ask a ques on like, why?, the answer would be, because that's what God wants us to do or perhaps our family goes to church. Maybe the answer was simply "Because. Our parents probably could not ar culate their answers any be er than we can. This is why we really do need to prac ce talking about our faith. The importance of our Chris- an faith can no longer be assumed. Think about the messages we hear in this world on a daily basis which range from God doesn't exist to God does exist but only the God that our group judges to be God. There are plenty of people who will share their views on why they have no faith so we, who have faith, need to be able to talk about it. One of the areas we have been focusing on here at Our Saviour's is how we can become comfortable with sharing our faith stories. We ask ques ons like where have you seen the Holy Spirit ac ve in your life or how have you experienced God?. Talk about God as a family. Tell the stories of your own rela- onship with God. Read the Bible together and talk about these stories in rela onship to your own. A er all, the Bible is filled with stories about God in rela onship with God's people. Why do I a end worship? I truly do believe that together we are the body of Christ in this world, therefore it is together that our worship is able to exemplify that diversity in true richness and fullness. By coming together we experience unity and achieve a glimpse of God's kingdom as we share and partake of the sacraments of Holy Communion and Bap sm. By seeing the love and the peace that passes all understanding, we come together li ing up the pain and despair of those among us. These are some of my reasons. What are yours? Pastor Dee Sim The Dress-a-Girl Around the World sewers are happy to announce that 80 pillowcase dresses are ready to be shipped for distribution in Sri Lanka. That makes 150 dresses that volunteers have created for girls in third world countries. Thanks to the wonderful Casserole Cook-Off, we have funds to pay for the shipping! The group will not meet during the summer, but will continue gathering monthly on a SALT night in fall. In the meantime, we encourage our volunteers to keep sewing or making prayer dolls as time allows. There are pictures on the bulletin board in the fellowship hall that show some of our activity. Thank you to OSLC for supporting this project to prevent sexual abuse of young girls in third world countries.

3 N E W S F R O M T H E Y O U T H 3 Beloved People of Our Saviour s, I am writing to announce my resignation, effective August 15th, This was a very difficult decision to make; Our Saviour s has been my church home for my whole life, and is very dear to my heart. I am moving on in order to pursue a career in education; after much consideration, I feel it is time to put my teaching license to use in the classroom. I have so much enjoyed my time working at OSLC. It has been a wonderful experience for me, and I have learned and grown much through working with this congregation and staff. I have only good feelings towards OSLC, and will continue to keep this congregation in my prayers. I am so thankful for the support I have received from the entire congregation, and look forward to seeing how OSLC continues to grow and change in years to come. I am excited to be serving here through the rest of the summer, and will continue to put my all into youth ministry some of my favorite programs are going on in July and August. Please feel free to talk to me if you have any questions. If I remain in the area, I plan to remain an active member of the congregation, and if I end up moving, I will certainly be back to visit. On May 19 th, Helen Exner and Noah Harmon gave an amazing concert at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Marshall, Nicole, Diana, Mia and Max joined and shared their musical gi s with us that a ernoon. I would like to thank Pastor Kurt, the en re crew in the kitchen, musicians, and everyone who came to support children of Burundi Many in the audience haven t heard about the country of Burundi before. Those who have heard about it did not know the educa on challenges facing children there. The music and the fellowship brought that awareness. As a result of that awareness, you have shown how much you care. The current report shows that your generous dona ons will keep more than 12 orphan students in a boarding secondary school for 1 year. It will pay for tui on fees, room and board ($29.00/student). By dona ng $150.00, some of you have chosen to support students for one year with school supplies, clothes, hygiene items, transporta on and medical as well. By giving educa on and so much needed hope, we are indirectly responding to the Gospel of Ma hew 25: On behalf of the Burundi children who will benefit from your generous gi s, I do thank you from the bo om of my heart. I hope that you will keep praying for the children in Burundi as they do their best to break the vicious cycle of poverty and violence through educa on. May God bless you with abundance and with a con nuous generous heart.
