Thank you to all who raked, pruned, scrubbed, shoveled, weeded, painted, polished, and generally spiffed up the church, inside and out, during the spring break clean-up days. Dedicated volunteers were not deterred by the rain on Wednesday and Thursday morning. It was wonderful to see everyone buzzing around the building. There was so much positive energy in the air. All your work has made a huge difference. Thank you again!

2 Matt s Minute Thank You, Thank You, Thank You Thank you so much for all of the help inside and outside of the building this week during spring cleaning. The building looks great. Thank you to Linda Stinson and Teresa Shaw for participating in our Disaster Preparedness Workshop. Sabbatical Interim Minister (SIM) Update My sabbatical time is quickly approaching and we are working hard to put some things in place during my absence. The board will review the SIM job description at our next board meeting and we hope to interview candidates for the position soon. The hope is that the SIM will be working hours a week doing the following tasks during the summer: work closely with church staff to ensure a supportive and healthy environment that allows them to continue to do their work without the interruption or burden of extra duties due to the Senior Minister s sabbatical address pastoral concerns or personnel/workplace issues that arise keep office hours in the church office to assist with administrative duties work with deacons, elders, and other lay leadership to ensure a vibrant and healthy worship experience, serving at the communion table and leading prayers when needed work closely with elders, deacons, and greeters to welcome visitors to the congregation Preach once a month and coordinate with guest preachers who are already scheduled to fill in the other weeks of the summer write theological articles every other week for the church newsletter attend Program and Finance Cabinet meetings (monthly on the second and third Mondays) to help facilitate productive meetings and communicate with each other serve as communication liaison with senior minister when necessary to address issues, concerns, emergencies, or questions that might arise serve as conflict mediator if needed with church members, building group users, or outside parties work with ecumenical group to help plan and organize the Labor Day in the Park and have a presence at the service on September 1, 2019 Rev. Matt Gordon Senior Minister Church phone: matt@heartofcorvallis.org Open Office Hours: Mondays and Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. or schedule an appointment to come by and chat. Disciples House Updates We are excited that Lucas Teeter, our resident adviser at Disciples House, will be staying for the summer. We are looking at hiring a new Resident Advisor for the fall and will begin recruitment soon. If you know any graduate students who are interested in free housing and a small stipend in exchange for keeping up with 8 college students, please send them my way. Several students are moving out in June and we will have vacancies over the summer. We hope to do some minor cleaning and repair over the summer. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please let me know. Peace, Pastor Matt Relying on the spirit and story of the Gospels, First Christian Church is supported primarily by donations. There is no charge for any event. We rely on freely given offerings to support our various ministries and opportunities. Your contributions and gifts allow us to continue to be a radically inclusive, justice-driven community of faith every day of the week. Thank you in advance for your gifts.
