But, there are many other ways you can help support this event! We need donations of: Name brand sodas, waters, iced teas. (Watch for sales and pick up extra for the Craft Fair). Baked cookies and goodies. Please label the packages with the list of ingredients. It s helpful for inquiring customers. Top left: Sue did a great job standing in as choir director. 2 Matt s Minute You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lamp stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others -Matthew 5:14-16 I am repeatedly amazed at what happens around here. We continue to be a place of love, healing and hope for so many people. It begins every Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. and continues throughout the week. Our influence and love expands beyond our doors too, throughout our community and into places around the world like Ecuador and Ukraine. We are truly a light to the world. This is why the finance cabinet and I began conversations about how we can make our light shine brighter, in both literal and spiritual ways. We are in the beginning stages of conversation about a capital campaign in 2017 that we are calling, Light of the World. There are three components of our campaign that we are exploring. First, we are exploring how we can harness the light and energy from the sun by expanding our current solar panel system. We are getting suggestions and estimates from Abundant Solar to expand our current solar system on the roof. Of course, we need to simultaneously do a structural analysis of our roof to see if it could handle the weight of additional panels. Second, we are finally moving forward with upgrading our audio/visual system. There are many times and situations that call for more multimedia capacity that we are not able to handle with our current setup. This is especially challenging because when the building was designed in 1924, no one was considering the possibility of multi-media in church. It is almost standard for memorial services to have a video slideshow. We often showcase our mission efforts through pictures. Our Sunday School develops movies and slideshows often. We would like to develop a functional projection system that is not our makeshift screen and projector, but something permanent that would allow us to easily use projection. One goal would be to maintain the beauty and integrity of the sanctuary. We would accomplish this by mounting a projector from the balcony and a screen that could be mechanically put away when not in use (recessed from the side, top or floor of the chancel area). We are also exploring an upgrade to our sound system to allow for better hearing capability in our sanctuary and ease of access for multiple types of worship/service. Finally, we want to expand our light in the exterior of our building. We hope Rev. Matt Gordon Senior Minister Church phone: matt@heartofcorvallis.org Open Office Hours: Mondays: 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Tuesdays: 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Sermons Online to enhance the outside lighting which can provide both visibility and increase security. We hope to repair and replace lights in the front of building, add two post-style lights in the rear, and replace exterior lights near the back door with bright, dawn/dusk fixtures. This will undoubtedly be a big project with a big price tag. We are in the beginning stages of exploration which means we are still collecting bids and exploring feasibility. However, if you would like to contribute ideas or a financial contribution to our 2017 Capital Campaign, you are more than welcome to. Peace, Matt Relying on the spirit and story of the gospels, First Christian Church is supported primarily by donations. There is no charge for any event. We rely on freely given offerings to support our various ministries and opportunities. Your contributions and gifts allow us to continue to be a radically inclusive, justice-driven community of faith every day of the week. Thank you in advance for your gifts.
3 In Sunday School All the Sunday School kids participated in painting tiles with ceramic glazes. After being painted, the tiles are then fired in a kiln and put into wooden frames to make colorful trivets. Neil Reynolds made the wooden frames for the trivets. The price is $12 each or 2 for $20. Look for the Sunday School Craft Fair booth next to the Food Booth in front of the church. Trivets would make great Christmas gifts! In Our Prayers Pamella Doerksen Teresa Shaw s father is showing signs of getting better. Her friend Amy has cancer Kathy Crawford s grandson, Austin Sue Cooley s family member is having medical problems Mona Gerig s brother-in-law Bud s daughter has cancer Lynnie Evans and the Evans and Herb families Jim Stinson s back pain Teanna s aunt Cherie and Neil Reynolds Viv Ellsworth Joyce Miller Joys Teanna, for taking care of Sunday Coffee Cart when nobody else signs up! Small Things Supporting FEDICE In support of the regional FEDICE Ecuador project, a few items purchased during the most recent Ecuador mission trip are for sale. Suggested donation amounts are stated below. All proceeds go to the FEDICE Romerillos Project. Questions? Contact Jill at the church office.
