1 living WORD lutheran CHURCH CHURCH APRIl 2019 newsletter 2019 MISSIOn PlAn On March 24 we celebrated Mission Sunday. Pastor Bill Moberly joined us again and gave a sermon about Jesus s call to witness to people of all nations. Brian Sandvig presented the 2019 Mission Plan on behalf of the Impact the World Committee. The mission plan laid out 6 different missions/ministries that our congregation will support with time, talents and financial resources. The congregation approved the 2019 Mission Plan giving its approval to the church council and the Impact the World Committee to begin its proposed work in earnest. After the church service a fundraising luncheon was held, we raised funds $2,418, to help the Randleman s and Strege s off-set costs associated with their mission trip to Vietnam in June. In the afternoon, Pastor Bill held a comprehensive workshop focusing on mission work and serving as a witness to Jesus as our savior and spreading the good news. 3 YOUTH YOUTH NEWS God is so good life can through us a curve at times, but God is there to catch the curve ball and win the day. March was a crazy month with my stroke. (It is still hard for me to even say that it happened.) Crazy I am still in awe at God s miraculous healing. Thank you, everyone for your prayers and kind cards and food you brought over after I got home from the hospital. I am so thankful for my church family. God is so amazing There are some RECHARGE WEEKENDS at Okoboji Bible Camp in Iowa coming up in April for grades 6-8 on April 5-7 and for grades 4 and 5 the weekend of April 5-7. I really hope you take advantage of this great weekend to recharge your face. The theme for the weekend is prayer, so I think it is such an appropriate topic after we were able to experience firsthand the power of prayer with my healing. I hope you really consider going. We would be leaving after school Friday at 4 PM and stopping in Sioux Falls for a quick supper. Then we will be home on Sunday afternoon around three to 4 PM. EASTER is fast approaching and the youth will be serving breakfast again this year. We will be serving from 8-9:30 AM before church at 10 AM. The SUMMER CAMP opportunities at Ingham/Okoboji Bible Camp are the week of July 7-12 for both 4-5th graders and 6-8th graders. 4/5th graders will be at the Ingham site and the 6-8th graders at the Okoboji site. Camp is a great place to meet new friends, discover more about what it means to be a Christian, and find out how the Almighty God wants to be in a relationship with you With hilarious skits, personal messages, fun at the lake playing games, and hanging out, this will be a week you never forget Please consider taking advantage of this great week let me know if you are interested and I will get you information. I will continue to pray for all of you. Seek first His Kingdom We serve an amazing God Grow in faith and impact the world for Christ Kay

4 WOMEN OF THE LIVING WORD Women s General Meeting on March 5 is officially here, at the least the SPRInG calendar tells us so. The snow is melting, and I can see patches of grass As the snow melts, I am reminded of my sins melting away because of the great sacrifice God made for me. During this lenten season let us prayerfully prepare our hearts and minds as we follow Jesus to the cross and His crucifixion so that our sins melt away and we may have eternal life with Him. Thank you to everyone who participated in our SOUP LUNCHEON. The soups and bars were delicious lil Colberg shared a heartwarming video telling the story of Philip Bliss, composer of, It is Well with My Soul. Some of you commented that the hymn kept running through your head the rest of the day. LENTEN SUPPERS are continuing throughout the lenten season. love Circle will serve April 3 and Mary/Martha will serve April 10. Thank you to everyone who have served. ladies at Park Place are so appreciative of our visits. If you can volunteer, please contact Roslyn Reich or Shirley Zahn. Our MISSION PROJECTS for April are Pillow Case Dresses and St. Francis House. Shirley Zahn s son was recently here and picked up what we have collected so far for St. Francis House. I also want to thank Valley Queen Cheese for their generous donation of 70 pounds of cheese given to St. Francis House. As discussed at our last General Meeting there is an example of a hygiene kit and directions on the back table in the fellowship hall. I am hopeful that each circle can make at least a couple. The kits will be given to Orphan Grain Train. God bless all the women of living Word as we grow in Christ and become strong and faithful women following our lord on the path He has set before us. Roslyn Reich LWLW Coordinator The CIRCLES will be studying The Story of Mary, Mother of Jesus, session 7 in our study books. We will learn of Mary s faithfulness and her wonderful example standing firm during pain, doubt, and fear. The circle providing COOKIES for the nursing home in April is Dawn circle. I am also asking for volunteers to assist with our monthly Devotional Tea held the 4th Wednesday of each month at Park Place. The

5 PASTOR S LETTER A FAMIlIAR John 20:10-15 She did not realize it was Jesus. (v. 14) She did not realize it was Jesus. In other words, she did not see him. Mary expected the worst. She expected Jesus to be dead. She expected to find the men responsible for the missing body close by. She expected the man who stood by the grave to be the gardener. All these expectations are expressed in her confident statement, They have taken my lord away Her expectations of the worst blinded her from seeing the best she could have imagined. She was so negative about every situation that she couldn t imagine God s will being performed in such dark circumstances. She did not accept any of the hints of hope: the stone rolled away, the body gone, the two angels and the stranger in the garden. These, to her, were only signs of despair. Because she did not trust that God was at work in all things, she could not see Jesus right in front of her. Before we criticize Mary, we must examine ourselves. Each of us, at times, acts in a similar fashion. We often expect the worst. We fail to trust that God is at work, and as we do, we fail to realize that Jesus stands with us. God does not always redeem circumstances in obvious ways that can be easily identified. In fact, he most commonly does so in hidden ways. Yet we will continue to expect situations to be without Christ when we do not understand that he is everywhere we are. He is even within us. We can trust him. We can look at every situation expectantly, knowing that Jesus comes to us in times of apparent failure, through strangers, and in strange occurrences. no matter what situations you confront, never, never, never expect the worst. Expect the best, for Christ is raised. He is standing and working in, with, and under the most unexpected forms, events, and people. Lord Jesus, you are in the most surprising places. Help me to discern your presence even when it appears that you are absent. Like Mary, give me eyes to see you and recognize you in every circumstance. It is in your name that we ask these things. Amen.
