1 Prelude Announcements Brief Order for Confession and Forgiveness Opening Hymn Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee LBW 551 Greeting and Response: Psalm 30:1-5 P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you. P: I will exalt you, O Lord, because you have lifted me up C: and have not let my enemies triumph over me. P: O Lord my God, I cried out to you, C: and you restored me to health. P: You brought me up, O Lord, from the dead; C: you restored my life as I was going down to the grave. P: Sing to the Lord, you servants of his, C: give thanks for the remembrance of his holiness. P: For his wrath endures but the twinkling of an eye C: his favor for a lifetime. Prayer of the Day Almighty God, grant that the affairs of this world may be so peaceably ordered by your providence, that your church may joyfully serve you in quiet holiness; through Jesus Christ, your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen Praise Song How Great Is Our God Insert Children s Sermon 9:00 WORSHIP FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST June 24, 2018 Kay Groethe First Reading: Psalm 113:1-9 Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord! Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore! From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised! The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens! Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth? He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people. He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord! First Reading: Psalm 113:1-9 Praise the Lord! Second Reading: Acts 16:16-18 As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and us, crying out, These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation. And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out that very hour. Verse God s Word Is Our Great Heritage LBW 239 Gospel: Mark 4:35-41 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, Let us go across to the other side. And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing? And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Peace! Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith? And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? Sermon Second Commandment: You shall not take the name of the Lord in vain. Sermon Hymn/Offering All Hail the Power of Jesus Name! LBW 328 Offertory Apostle s Creed Create in Me Prayers of the Church and Lord's Prayer Benediction Closing Hymn It Is Well With My Soul RED 321
