1 LUTHERAN CHURCH, LCMC Pastor A. J. Kluver th Avenue East Alexandria, MN Through the power of the Holy Spirit we are growing, sharing, and living in God s Word, Jesus Christ pastorlwlc@gctel.net; secretarylwlc@gctel.net June God s grace and peace to you Brothers and Sisters in Christ- The month of May was an emotionally rollercoaster for me, as it has included both terrible weather and gorgeous weather; greetings and good-byes; sickness and health, new birth and death; great joy and great sorrow. Much time was been spent in prayer both prayers of petition and prayers of praise. In the midst of these rollercoaster like experiences of life, I m especially thankful for you the LWLC community of faith! Together we share our burdens and our blessings we stand together on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ. Often I have wondered what it would be like to live in the midst of this crazy world without faith without the sure and certain hope we have in Christ and without people of faith to celebrate with together and to help bear one another s burdens. As a community of faith we cannot forget the fact that many people who we encounter daily do not have this hope are not standing on the solid rock of Jesus and His promises. With compassion in our hearts, these are people we are called to proclaim Jesus to, inviting them to hear His Word and receive the Holy Spirit s gift of grace. If you know someone who is living in the darkness of unbelief and/or without the support of a faith community answer the call to share and invite. Don t wait for a better time do it now trusting in the Lord s strength and presence. There are exciting events scheduled at LWLC for these summer and fall months with the All-State Lutheran Choir, our Wednesday worship schedule, the 500 year Reformation Celebration etc. These events are not intended to stand outside of the mission we have been given to grow in Christ, to share Christ, and to live in Christ. Instead, these are additional opportunities to invite people to hear God s Word- where faith, hope, and love abide- so they too may stand together as brothers and sisters in Christ encouraging and assuring one another in Christ. Thank you for your support and encouragement! Pastor A.J.

7 REPORT OF THE COUNCIL Pastor A. J. began the meeting with a reminder of the range of emotion experienced during the month of May. He cited contrasting events from the celebrations of new birth and new activity in the church, to the sober, spiritual reflection caused by the death and funerals for those we know and love. This devotional discussion of both the highs and lows of life has the tendency to keep us humble and connected to our God. Pastor concluded with the comfort and encouragement offered in 1 Peter 5:7 - Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. ***************************************** The meeting of the council included: 1. Report of the financial offerings to the church which continue to be very adequate to match the commitments and expenses for LWLC. The council became aware of a large annual gift from a non-member which we will recognize with a thank you. 2. Treasurer s Report which includes the full accounting and distribution for both income and expenses. 3. Pastor s report of both church and pastoral activity during the past month. 4. Council Liaison reports for each of our church committees. 5. A decision was made to have our attorney update our employee manual to help protect LWLC from unreasonable extensions to possible lawsuits initiated by employees. 6. The Memorial Committee was asked to consider establishing a category designated toward our future media screen system in the sanctuary. ***************************************** The council meeting was rather short and somewhat routine (for which everyone seemed grateful). It should be obvious, however, that the reason is not due to inactivity in our church, but rather that it is functioning as intended. The committees continue to take the initiative keeping our property maintained, our members engaged in the church, and our church engaged in the community. This last category (of ministry) continues to grow as evidenced by some non-member participation in our youth program, Bible Studies, and events such as the large celebration of support for Someplace Safe, and our hosting of the Minnesota All State Lutheran Choir. The community outreach activities are important for us to support. Rev. Norm Olsen stated in a recent sermon to LWLC, that there are many benefits to us as members of this church family but the real reason for Living Word to exist, is to proclaim the gospel. This falls in line with the current focus of LCMC and our Augustana District Being Mission Minded. The theme is a good one; one that should remind each of us to seize opportunities as a church and in our personal lives to live as a witness to what we believe. Hopefully you can attend the fellowship activities at LWLC as you enjoy summer in Minnesota. Brad Forbrook

Group Cares Camp and West Central Minnesota Communities Action, Inc. have partnered for more than a decade to provide home repair and community beautification to households in the five-county area. Projects can entail wheelchair ramps, steps, exterior painting, and other small repairs or improvements. Students come from all across the United States and raise funds themselves that go towards the supplies and paint. The Group Cares camp will be in the area from June 26 th - July 1 st. They will be working hard doing mission outreach by making the housing repairs and also having fun in the evening with fellowshipping with others. West Central MN Communities Action is rounding up local service groups in the communities to help welcome the students to our community. We are looking for: Items to put in a Welcome bag: Shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, chap-stick, fun items, socks, bug spray, treats, hair ties, and anything that would make a high school student feel welcomed to our communities. 9 Habitat For Humanity Once again we are gearing up for a summer of active building. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to serve on committees, swing a hammer, provide food for the workers, be a Site host, share a devotion or head up a fund raiser. The goal this year is to provide affordable housing for seven families. This may include building a home from the ground up or renovating a previously built home. The first build which is a Thrivent Builds home began on April 25th with some of our Living Word members in on the action. If you would like to participate in any way, please let Harold or Kathy Withers know or call the Habitat for Humanity office. We can all get in on the action in some way.
