Newsletter of Mount Hope Lutheran Church Preschool and Childcare September 2016 Spirit of Hope Pastor s Notes Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise! Psalm 100:4 Dear friends and members of Mt Hope, One of my favorite Bible verses is from St. Paul s letter to the Philippians where he writes: Rejoice in the Lord always and again I will say rejoice! We indeed can rejoice that the Lord has brought us to this point in our building and remodeling project. Many members of Mt Hope have sacrificed financially over the past three years and continue to do so to help bring this project to fruition. Many members have unselfishly given of themselves by using their time and talents to assist in this ambitious undertaking. Together with the help of Laborers for Christ we are finally ready to dedicate what our human hearts and hands have produced for the proclamation of the Gospel in our community. I can t begin to personally thank all who have helped in one way or another to see this project through to completion, but we do thank God for all of you; giving all the glory to Him Who has enabled us complete it. These past few years have truly been a Faith Moving Forward time in the life of our congregation. God love you, Pastor Dan

Preschool and Childcare Center September is always such an exciting time at the Center. There will be a new group of students starting Tuesday, September 6. This year s group is made up of many returning students, many younger siblings of former students and some brand new families. We have an abundance of childcare children, but are lower on morning Preschool students. Our staff will be returning in full. Heather Bielec, Charlotte Penn and Rachel Cornes will again be our Lead teachers from 9:00-12:00. Ms. Jessica will be returning to her opening and assisting duties in mid- September. She had a beautiful healthy little girl, Callista (Callie), on July 22. Ms. El and Ms. Jean will be returning to the staff as Aides. Mr. Josh now qualifies as an Assistant teacher so he will be taking on new duties this fall. Melanie Appelquist continues to be very valuable to us as a substitute. She helped cover Jessica s maternity leave and we truly appreciate her. Thank you all for your support. Our first school year in the renovated Center went very well. We love the design and the newness to the classrooms. During September, I will be learning the church office duties and reducing the number of hours spent working in the kitchen and classrooms for the Center. Please pray for a smooth transition for me. Kim Woebke, CDC Director 3
Children s Ministry Jesus All Stars Sunday School A Lesson Learned A poem by Orphie Anderson Shellum: When I was just a little child attending Sunday School, I learned that Jesus loves me; I learned the golden rule. I loved the Bible stories and the songs that we would sing, but most of all I loved to hear we were children of the King. Now I ve grown old and feeble, so many paths I ve trod, but I have not forgotten I am a child of God. I ve tried to do the right things sometimes failed miserably. But how fortunate I am to know that Jesus still loves me. So when your precious little ones are gathered round your knee, teach them the old story Jesus cares for you and me. No matter where the future leads, they ll take this truth along to sustain them in their times of need and fill their hearts with song. The Jesus All-Stars welcomes all children Pre-school through Grade 5. Meet in the Green room each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. A new season, a new beginning, a new curriculum! Be there, or be square:) Francine Wallin, Coordinator Children s Sunday School JAM (Jesus and Me) No JAM in September!! We will resume JAM on October 16 th. 3 4

Sunday Bible Study 9:30 a.m. Believe Think, Act, and Believe like Jesus - Starts Sunday, September 25 BELIEVE is the Bible study and sermon series that s a follow-up to The Story which we completed last year. In the first 10 sessions; Think like Jesus, we will explore the basic core beliefs of Christianity. The next 10 sessions; Act like Jesus, we will put those beliefs into practice. In the final 10 sessions: Be like Jesus, we will explore the virtues of becoming like Jesus. The Bible is the most amazing story ever told, but it is a story that demands a response. It teaches us about God and what God has done for us through His Son Jesus Christ. It teaches us that a goal of the Christian life is to become like Jesus for our personal growth and for the sake of others. Plan now on joining us each week in worship and Bible study as we embrace how to think, act and believe like Jesus. Lifelight Bible Study O u r Thurs d ay m o r ni n g Bi bl e Clas s will resume on T hurs da y, S ept em b er 22 nd at 10 a.m. T hi s fal l we will be stud yi n g the P arab l es of the Bi bl e. Women of Hope Tuesday, September 13 th We are excited to kick-off to our group s meetings this year on Tuesday, September 13 th at 6:30 pm with our special theme Bee All You Can Be in Christ. We will be exploring ways to live out our theme verse from Romans 12:2b TLB Be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Our evening begins with an Ice Breaker where you get to know one another and have fun participating in a game or sharing time. The What s the Buzz: learn interesting facts about honeybees. The Spiritual Challenge: is a time where we can realize our full potential-in Christ followed by prayers and maybe a song! Our hostesses will be serving New Creation Ice Cream Sundaes! All the women of Mt. Hope are invited to attend. Book Club LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, THE BOOK CLUB IS THRILLED THAT OUR LONG CONSTRUCTION PROCESSED IS WINDING UP. Because of this the First Friday Book Club meeting will be replaced with a working day (or days) to set up the church library-yay!! The date will be announced as soon the room is available. We will be deleting some older, less popular titles to include many new books that the book club and others have donated. There will be a special section of "Book Club Favorites" and we appreciate any donations of your favorite, uplifting titles. Because our space is limited we will have to carefully select each volume and we are looking forward to having a space that all our members can use and enjoy. We hope to have the library unlocked for drop in visitors. 7
Financials Treasurer s Report from July 2016 Monthly Income $42, Monthly Income Budgeted $53, Monthly Expenses $42, Monthly Expenses Budgeted $ (Includes Child Development Center) Stewardship Corner Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift (2 Cor. 9:15)! This is St. Paul s exclamation upon hearing the Corinthian church s response to the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and his request for support for the Church in Jerusalem. The Christians in Corinth heard and received God s mercy in Christ, and they responded to St. Paul s call to support Christians in Jerusalem with a collection. The Corinthian s joy filled Jerusalem s need. This is the reality of stewardship. Because of God s generosity in the giving of His Son to die on the cross for us, we are to be generous with all that we receive from Him. What do we receive? Everything. All that we are and all that we have is the Lord s. He is the creator and the giver. We are His creatures and those who receive what He gives. The church is a mercy place. It s a place where God s mercy in the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ, is given and received. For we who believe in Christ, it means forgiveness, life, and salvation in the face of sin, death, and the power of the devil. Here in the church we inhale God s mercy in Word and Sacrament, and exhale this same mercy in love and service to our neighbor. And that is an enduring, joyful thing to do. Our joy fills our neighbor s need because His joy filled ours (Heb. 12:2). Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift! 8
