1 The Bridge Builder St. Matthew s Weekly News August 6-7, 2016 Building Committee Update The Building Committee has met several times this past month with the Church Building Consultant s (CBC) Architect. Our goal is to ensure that all requirements and needs are included in the new design. These meetings have been very productive. Our next meeting with CBC is scheduled for August 25. We hope to have preliminary costs and designs to share with the congregation some time in September. Please keep the Committee and St. Matthew congregation in your prayers as we continue through this process. Also if you haven t already completed a survey, there s still time. The surveys are located in the narthex. We ask each giving family unit to complete one of these surveys and place them in the box located in the narthex. As always, thank you for your input. New Altar Guild Members Needed St. Matthew s Altar Guild is still in need of an additional 3-4 team members. Teams are responsible for setting up the altar flowers, paraments, and communion, in addition to clearing the altar after worship, for one weekend a month. Teams rotate every fifth week. Please contact Sharon Crull by phone at or e:mail sharoncrull54@att.net by August 1. Training will be provided. Mark Your Calendars for Rally Day, 2016 Sunday, September 11 after the Christian Education Hour, St. Matthew will host its annual church picnic in conjunction with Rally Day. Remember. Rally Day Church Picnic: There will be a Pig Roast! When: 12:00 Noon, SEPTEMBER 11 Where: Covington North Park, 1308 Covington Dr., Lemont (different location from last year). It s going to be a great picnic! Watch the Bridge Builder for further detail as the time draws near. The new weekly bulletin deadline is Thursday at 9:00 AM, unless otherwise noted. Place articles in the office secretary s mailbox in the Communications Center, or them to the office at office.stmatthewlemont@gmail.com. Write down event dates and times on the church office hallway calendar if you would like them included in the Bridge Builder s calendar.

We have an excellent and committed staff of teachers, but we are in need of some people who would be willing to help in two ways: 1) As Helper for younger children (commitment could be bi-weekly or weekly); 2) As an occasional substitute teacher in our classes (commitment is minimal, and your preference of grade levels will be honored). If you can support our Sunday School ministry in this way, contact Becky Herman or Amy Pomatto, or slip a note into the mailbox of the Board of Christian Education and Youth Ministry. Voice of Care s Mile for Mileage Challenge Support Disability Ministry at local churches with Voice of Care s Mile for Mileage Challenge. NEW THIS YEAR TWO LOCATIONS! August 20, 10 am 12:30 pm at Castaldo Park in Woodridge; August 27, 10 am 12:30 pm at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schaumburg, Illinois Confirmation Meeting There will be an orientation meeting for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and their parents on Sunday, August 14 at 10:15 am in the gym. Pastor will outline the Confirmation program, discuss curriculum and expectations, and provide families with important dates. Pew Sisters Plan ahead now to attend our August meeting of Pew sisters. Friday, August 26, at 7:00 pm we ll meet in the cool parsonage and begin a new study called Living the Chocolate Life. Come hear God s word and enjoy the fellowship Issues, Etc. EDUCATING A NEW GENERATION OF LUTHERANS...Issues, Etc. This week's topics include: The "For You" of Biblical Christianity, Mary Mother of Jesus, The Temptation of Jesus, Sexual Morality in a Christless World, and more. You can listen to what you want when you want at and on the Lutheran Public Radio mobile app. Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show produced by Lutheran Public Radio in Collinsville, IL and hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken. This family-friendly inclusive walk and picnic includes a live sing-a-long, Lutheran Church Charities K9 Comfort Dogs, Chick-Fil-A lunch, and a Voice of Care hat.
