Take action now to be sure your church is adequately represented at the meeting in October. Article IV Section 1 Messengers The voting membership of the Association at annual meetings shall be composed of the pastor, Executive Council representative and three messengers, plus one messenger for each hundred members or major fraction thereof per church. Section 2 No church shall have less than six voting members. Section 3 Alternates may serve in the absence of any of the above. Section 4 All other persons who hold membership in the Executive Council as defined in Article VI, Section 2 shall have voting privileges at the annual meeting.

Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV When You Can Do Nothing Else, God Will Do Something More! As a young college student, I became overwhelmed with life choices. I knew God had called me to serve as a minister but I was unsure which direction that call was to take. Added to this, I was dealing with health issues and doubting that God could use me. The situation seemed hopeless as I sought for answers. One day while serving as janitor of my church, I found an old church bulletin tucked inside a hymnal, with these words: "When you can do nothing else, God will do something more." The statement was a paraphrase of Lamentations 3:19-26 and was stated as a definition of hope. As I read those words, I realized I was so focused on my circumstances and my inabilities to deal with them that I forgot my hope was not in myself but in God. Forgettng the source of our hope is a common occurrence for us as Christians. While desiring to serve God, we become overwhelmed with the cares of life and forget our hope. The book of Lamentations, written by the prophet Jeremiah, is a collection of poems or laments that express sorrow for the destruction of Jerusalem. Many people were killed, many were taken into exile, and even the Temple had been torn down. There seemed to be no hope. But Jeremiah wrote: This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. Through the LORD'S mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, says my soul, Therefore I hope in Him! " (Lam 3:21-24, NKJV). Life is filled with diffculties and tragedies. Sooner or later they touch everybody in some way. It is in these days that hope will either sustain us or we lose our hope and cry out to God, Why? Sometimes the diffculties are of our own making. God instructed Jeremiah to tell the people of Jerusalem that they were suffering because of their sin. When we return to God, He forgives our sin and points us in the right direction. Often there are no answers to the whys of life. Even so, God is still our hope. While Jeremiah asked why, he did not dwell on it but concentrated on God. There are so many unexplained diffculties in this life. Why does disease affect us? Why do innocent people suffer? So many questions we cannot answer. This life may bring troubles and trials and can only offer empty promises. Yet in Christ, there is the promise of eternal life. "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness." The only true hope is eternal hope. God is the author of this hope. Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 15:13, NKJV). Christ Jesus is our hope, Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope, (1 Tim. 1:1, NKJV). Remember also that God Himself is the anchor of hope. Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek (Heb. 6:17-20, NIV). Where is the foundation of your hope? Don t give up, but remember: When you can do nothing else God will do something more. Calvin

3 Concord Covenant, September 2018 Page 3 Baptist Collegiate Ministry LU classes started on August 27, and things are in full swing. The football team is hard at practice and Coach Smith has arranged for us to have chapel services on Sunday morning. That will change to game day during football season. After practice one day, a player came up to me and arranged for a counseling session. Before chapel last Sunday I met a young lady from Spain who plays on the LU basketball team. We enjoyed some friendly conversation and she has agreed to help us reach out to international students. I continue to be amazed at the opportunities God places before us all the time, such as 1) Concord Baptist Church will host the football team Sunday, September 9, and 2) We arranged to have a Baptist College Ministry brochure placed in the welcome packets of over 500 freshman students. I have been meeting with the Baptist College Ministry Council to formulate a budget for 2019 and look at various events and strategies for the year. We heartily encourage you to become involved in this opportunity to touch a community of 3,000 with the gospel. Scheduled events will be listed on our website, cbamo.org, and Facebook. MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES: Prayer, Financial Support, snacks for Bible studies, food pantry [Crackers, soup, microwave heat & eat meals, ramen noodles, fruit cups, etc.], work the information booth at the campus wide welcome back event on September 7. El Salvador Mission Trip November 9-17, 2018 The team will be involved in medical and agricultural missions as well as training for pastors and their wives, and children s ministry. It is more cost effective to purchase the medical and agricultural supplies in country than to take them. The cost to fill a hygiene kit is $10.00 (need 200) The cost to fill an agricultural kit is $15.00 (need 50). Donations may be sent to the association offce. Funds are needed by November 2. Money received above these expenses will be used for ministry in El Salvador. Please be in prayer for the team and those to whom they will be ministering and give as the Lord leads you. Your Annual Church Profile report form has been mailed directly from the Missouri Baptist Convention this year. Join us Friday night for a worship rally, then return the next morning to be a part of the day long Dare-2-Share Live national simulcast event. More information at Minnesota Mission Opportunity October 4-7, 2018 Volunteers will be winterizing middle-lower income homes in the Rochester area. This is a 3MT-type mission to introduce people in the area to the work of Southern Baptists and build relationships for the purpose of planting a church there. The team (8-10 people) will leave on Thursday and return on Sunday after worshiping with our host church and Pastor Les Stevens.
