52 SHOULD ENBA CONSIDER CHANGING ITS NAME? Significant Changes in SBC Life ENBA is one of only three associations in the entire upper- Midwest (Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North & South Dakota) that can support a full-time DoM one in suburban Chicago and one in eastern Iowa. We are the strongest association in the region and have for several years assisted and partnered with SBC churches in Western Iowa and Northeast Nebraska through their DoMs. The Associations around us no longer have Directors of Missions, but are led by pastors who are called coordinators and who are limited in the time they have to give to sister churches. We currently have one Iowa church in our association and others have indicated they will be petitioning Diversity Within SBC Church Life We have a number of ethnic and international language churches that are part of our association We have diversity among our Anglo churches- a Bible church is petitioning for membership this year. Post Denominationalism The day when a Southern Baptist church member would move to our area and seek out ONLY a Southern Baptist Church are long gone. Continued cultural shifts have driven a wedge between evangelicals and our culture and at the same time this has helped us to remove the wedges we have historically inserted between ourselves and other evangelical groups Evangelical Church History in Our Region There are solid independent evangelical churches in our area that are seeing the need for support, encouragement, and affiliation with other churches. We have had several existing Baptist churches petition for membership in recent years These Things Will Never Change Our Biblical Roots we will never abandon our passion for God s Word and historic Christian beliefs. Our Baptistic Theology we are unapologetically Baptist and hold firm to the statement of faith as communicated in the Baptist Faith and Message Our Cooperative Spirit Southern Baptists have always seen great value in working together with the understanding that we can do more together than we can do individually. No single church can do it all, and we have experienced the God created synergy that occurs when we work together. Our passion for Evangelism and Missions we will continue the strong Southern Baptist tradition of being evangelistic and missional with a willingness to be self-sacrificing in our global mission efforts
