Malcolm Ambrose, Associate July 21, 2013 The Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time LISTEN The first reading tells of the annunciation of the birth of Isaac. It is profoundly mysterious, beginning with the appearance of the three men. This reading illustrates God s active role in our history. The second reading treats a universal experience suffering. Paul sees suffering as the mark of discipleship. He finds joy in the suffering he endures because it is for the sake of the church. Through his preaching he hopes all people will come to accept Christ. The Gospel paints a lovely picture of Jesus at rest among his friends. Luke has placed the incident right after the parable of the Good Samaritan. But lest activism be seen as the only path, we now hear Jesus call to sit quietly and listen to the word of God. We have to be like both of the sisters. Even in our harried and noisy world, there is an insistent call to sit back quietly and listen to Jesus. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. APTISM: If you are seeking baptism for your infant B to 5 year old, we ask that at least one parent be registered at St. Clare for six months prior to baptism. Olin Thank You to Terrific Volunteers Vacation Bible School, SonWest Round Up was a tremendous success due to the work of very dedicated volunteers. Anne Rudzinski puts so much time and effort into preparation, the week seems to go by without a hitch. The teachers, games and craft overseers are terrific each one doing their part. Seventeen teens and young adults volunteered as well. Some were classroom aides, some helped to organize and implement games and crafts and still others prepared and served snacks. Many of these young people attended vacation bible school themselves as children and now they are helping by giving back to their parish community. The fall calendars are on it now. CHILDREN S BIBLES I am happy to tell you that we now have children s Bibles for sale in our R. E. office. These Bibles contain the entire Old and New Testaments. They have very colorful Illustrations of different Bible stories. There are 2000 pages within this Bible with helpful hints for parents to talk with their children about the stories. The price is $20.00 cash or check only. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION SUMMER OFFICE HOURS Monday & Wednesday 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Tuesday & Thursday 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., closed from 2:00-3:00 p.m. for lunch on Tuesday & Thursday. It s advisable to call before coming on those days. FAMILIES ON HOME STUDY Don t forget to make an appointment for your child s interview before fall classes begin. CLARE S SENIORS ROCK OUR YOUTH CENTER EACH TUESDAY AND THURSDAY AFTER THE 9AM MASS Our seniors adjourn to the Youth Center after 9am Mass where they play pool, dominos, knit/crochet, use the computer lab, have coffee and goodies, solve the world s problems or just sit and visit with one another. Our Knit Wits and Happy Hookers meet on Tuesdays to make blankets and hats for several non-profit organizations that serve those in need. You don t need an invitation. Registration forms can be found in English and in Spanish on the bulletin boards at all the entrances of the church. Please know that if you wish to have a child baptized or enroll them in Religious Education classes or need a letter to be a godparent in another church, we cannot verify your presence in our parish without a registration on file. People who registered some years ago, but moved and did not give us a change of address may have dropped out of our system. If you have been in this parish all your life but are no longer living at home with your parents, or if you were married here and think that means we have all your information in a computer that may not be the case.
