Malcolm Ambrose, Associate December 29, 2013 The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph LOVE For generations, various cultures regarded family life merely as a utilitarian necessity. Sirach introduces honor and respect. For Jews and Christians alike, the value of family goes even further. The family is seen as the indispensable school where love is learned. Paul addresses the Colossians and offers a list of virtues that make for a solid and happy church. These values also make for a happy family at ease with itself and its members: mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness. As a capstone, Paul urges love, which brings all of these domestic virtues to perfection. Paul seems to be on a roll as he lauds the virtues of the church at Colossae. With such heartfelt virtues, it is no wonder Paul bursts into song. Who wouldn t? It s clear that the center of the church is love. It is clear that no matter how far from home the members travel, the heart remains and all the members are connected by the gravitational pull of mutual love, a love first learned in family life. Con estas virtudes tan sentidas no es de extrañar que Pablo rompa a cantar: Quién no haría lo mismo! Está claro que el centro de su círculo es el amor. Es evidente que no importa cuan lejos sus miembros estén del hogar, el corazón siempre está allí y todos ellos están conectados por la fuerza gravitatoria del amor mutuo. We also very much appreciate those of you who donated food and purchased gifts for the children of families we helped. Thanks to Kitty Travers and Gail Hyde for helping with gifts and getting the post cards out. Thank you to the Boy Scouts for their organization the morning of distribution and the Knights of Columbus for sponsoring the food drives and also helping with the packaging and pick up of groceries. To everyone who helped to interview needy families, thank you for being an integral part of the process. Dora Baez and Sue Peak kept all the balls in the air all while making this go off without a hitch. The Christmas Basket program allows us at St. Clare s to celebrate our parish at it s finest. If you would like to have your child baptized, would like to have your marriage blessed in the church, need to have a Eucharistic minister visit someone who is ill, or just have general questions, please call the Parish Office at: (661) We are open Monday from 1:30 to 5pm and Tuesday through Friday from 9am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5pm. (Please check office hour changes during holiday weeks) Each Sunday morning after the 7:30 and 9am Masses, join us in the plaza for coffee, juice, and goodies. If so, St. Clare s has a prayer group which meets in the Church every Friday at 7:30 pm. We begin with the celebration of the Mass and complete with devotions specifically for the intentions of bringing our loved ones back into the active participation of the faith. Please join us in lifting our voices in prayer. Tri-Parish Separated, Divorced, Widowed Social/Support Group Thursdays, January 2nd and January 16th 7:00pm to 8:30pm. They meet at Our Lady of Perpetual Help New Pastoral Center located at: Lyons Avenue in Newhall. CLARE S SENIORS ROCK OUR YOUTH CENTER EACH TUESDAY AND THURSDAY AFTER THE 9AM MASS Our seniors adjourn to the Youth Center after 9am Mass where they play pool, dominos, knit/ crochet, use the computer lab, have coffee and goodies, solve the world s problems or just sit and visit with one another. Our Knit Wits and Happy Hookers meet on Tuesdays to make blankets and hats for several non-profit organizations that serve those in need. You don t need an invitation. Just show up and meet new friends! The Knights of Columbus Will Sponsor a Basketball Free Throw Contest Sunday, January 5th For children ages 7 to 14 after all Masses. The hoop will be set up in the driveway behind classrooms 5 & 6 and the library building. Also: the Knights of Columbus will also be outside each exit of the Church on that day giving out tootsie rolls and accepting donations for Carousel Ranch (an organization which provides horseback therapy for disabled children.)
