They have been working hard getting ready for this awesome program! Christmas Poinsettias CAROLING & COCOA You are invited to join our children & youth group in Christmas caroling on Wednesday, December 20 from 6:00-7:00pm. See pg. 3 for more details. If you would like to bring or make a donation for a poinsettia plant to be displayed in the sanctuary during the holiday season, please talk with Pearl Christensen or Kristi in the church office. If you make a donation, we will purchase the plant for you. Please have plants and/or money to the church by December 15th. Christmas Eve Carols & Candlelight Worship Sunday, December 24 4:00 & 7:00pm Communion will be served at the 7:00pm worship service. Christmas Day Community Dinner Monday, December 25-12:00 in our fellowship hall We will again host the Community Christmas Dinner, along with students from New Richmond High School. The meal is free and open to everyone. Meal delivery is available. Please call the church office for reservations by December 22. 1

God Comes Close Advent and Christmas Worship Series Begins December 3 Advent is all about God coming to us and us preparing for God. God breaks into our scene, whether we re ready or not, and wants to love us and get to know us. As we prepare him room, what should we prioritize? How do we get ready? What are we getting ready for? Join us for this Advent and Christmas worship series beginning December 3, including our December 17 Choir Cantata and Christmas Program, as well as our December 24 Christmas Eve services (see front cover for details). 2 Hospitalizations If you go into the hospital please let us know at church, especially if you would like a visit from Pastor Jeremy or Maybelle Hall. Contact: Joe Langer, WEDNESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY 6:30-7:45pm at The Deerfield The current 12-week lesson is called Disciple Fast Track New Testament. This study is ideal for busy people who want to fit a comprehensive Bible study (Old & New Testament) into their schedule. Twelve weeks will be spend on each testament. Video segments included. Led by Ruth Egerer. THURSDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY 9:30-10:30am in the church Parlor John The Gospel of Light and Life by Adam Hamilton. Books are $14. BOOK CLUB - Thursday, December 14 7:00pm in the parlor (upstairs, room past the restrooms & behind the office) The selection for December is The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict, a biographical novel about Einstein s wife, Mileva Maric, a brilliant physicist whose light has been lost in Albert s enormous shadow. All are welcome. Questions? Call Jerri Rang at PIECE CORPS - Mission-Oriented Sewing Group - Thursday, December 21 9:30am in fellowship hall. The group makes beautiful patchwork quilts from mostly donated material and gives them away to various non-profit organizations (Grace Place & Harbor House). 5 UM Women News Christmas Luncheon with Jerry Cederholm The annual Christmas pot luck luncheon will be Thursday, December 14 at noon in Fellowship Hall. Jerry and Pat Cederholm will be special guests. Jerry will demonstrate how he has used puppets in his Children s Time presentations. Please bring an item for the local food shelf. ALL men and women of the congregation are invited to meet, greet and eat together to celebrate this special season of the year. Ruth Egerer will lead a devotional time. There will be no business meeting. Supportive lists As the 2018 Supportive Lists are reviewed changes will be made. New members can be added, other names removed. If you do not wish to be called upon to help for serving funerals, food donations, or other helpful support, please call the church office or Minerva Barnhart or Lorrie Pazdera. If your phone number has changed, please let Kristy know. Rummage Sale Thanks to the congregation and friends, another successful sale was held. Our proceeds were over $700! Proceeds will go toward scholarships and mission gifts. Thanks to Karen Bohl and Mary Kruschke for organizing the event. Assembly 2018 UMW International Assembly is held every four years. This year it will be at the Greater Columbus Ohio Convention Center May Thousands of UMW will gather to share the powerful history and challenges of the present world. The theme for 2018 is The Power of Bold. It is a time for fellowship and also an opportunity to empower faithful women to be stronger discipleship leaders in their communities. Moving worship, inspiring speakers, immersion exhibits, workshops, town-hall style meetings, and joyful music will be part of the program. A bus is being provided which will leave from Sun Prairie. Women from all over Wisconsin will be attending together. Scholarship money is available for any woman who desires to attend. If you are interested, please talk to Minerva Barnhart, Janet Knutson, or Jeanette O Connell. Dates: December 14, 2017 Noon Christmas Pot-Luck January 2, :00 p.m. Executive Meeting January 11, :30 a.m. Unit Meeting Salvation Army Bell Ringing The Salvation Army invites you to sign up to ring bells during Advent and Christmas by going to their website: Find your place (New Richmond: Family Fresh or Walmart), pick a date that works for you and sign up. If you cannot go online, please call Grace Place at January & February C.O.M.E. Community Meals NR UMC will plan, cook and serve the meals held on January 16 and February 20. 6 Mission Team and All-Church 32nd Annual Holiday Craft & Bake Sales The mission tables will be in the narthex on Sundays, December 3, 10 & 17 for your items to sell. It s a fun way to raise money for all our missions, here and abroad. If you re a baker or craft maker, you are welcome to bring your goodies, and we will sell them as part of this fundraiser. We need bakers, makers & buyers! Everyone is invited to participate in this NR UMC holiday tradition. See you in the narthex! The Mitten Tree It s a giving tree, because its ornaments are mittens, hats, scarves, gloves and slippers. You are invited to bring in new items for the tree, or you may purchase some of these items from our craft sale table to put on the tree. Either way, all items will be greatly appreciated! Then, on December 11th, the items will be split between NR Area Love Baskets, Northcott Neighborhood House in Milwaukee and Red Bird Mission in Kentucky just in time for Christmas giving! -Pearl Christensen Trustee Corner Narthex and Sanctuary updating continues... At the end of October and during November, the painting continued. The area around the office, upstairs restrooms and elevator were finished. Thanks to Don Amundson, Dave Berkholder and Nancy Karastes for doing all of this! We also purchased a beautiful new drop-leaf table for Sunday Morning Coffee and other uses and the glass was installed on the new round tables in the sitting area. In the sanctuary, we had donations of three handmade Amish chairs that are used in the front of the sanctuary. More ideas are in the works. 7 Love Baskets is the distribution of gifts to children whose families have difficulty affording Christmas. We are again offering this service to the families in the New Richmond/Somerset school districts. The NR UMC Community Outreach Committee will again be collecting for the upcoming distribution of Christmas gift through Love Baskets. Socks, underwear, warm hats/mittens/gloves are needed. Watch for our display in the narthex. The deadline for donations is Sunday, December 3. Please call for any of the following: -If your family needs a Love Basket -You know of someone that needs a Love Basket -You would like to sponsor a family -You would like to volunteer Monetary donations can be mailed to: Love Baskets PO Box 142, New Richmond, WI Thank you, Nancy Refsnider & Barb Vander Wyst Outreach Committee Chairs Pastor Jeremy participates in Institute of Congregational Development Pastor Jeremy was nominated by our District Superintendent and was accepted into the 2018 Institute of Congregational Development for the Wisconsin Annual Conference. He will spend a year in intensive study and group work learning about congregational revitalization. The course includes a monthly overnight class as well as some field trips to places like the Church of the Resurrection (Adam Hamilton s church). The Staff Parish Relations Committee is excited to hear of this opportunity and asks that you support his learning, which we hope will directly benefit us as a congregation. Congratulations, Pastor Jeremy! Simple Donation Opportunities The following items are being collected at our church and all of the money received will be used for Vacation Bible School. The past two years we have been able to offer VBS completely FREE to all participants! Collection boxes and more information are in front of the nursery. We have collected $100,500 in receipts so far! Remember we need the entire receipt. INK CARTRIDGES Thank you to everyone who has been turning in cartridges!
