2 2 READINGS for SUNDAY 8th April 2018 The Lesson Isaiah 26: 2-9, 19 The Old Testament Reading is from the book of the prophet Isaiah, Chapter 26, beginning to read at verse 2. 2 Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. 3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. 4 Trust in the Lord for ever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal. 5 He humbles those who dwell on high, he lays the lofty city low; he levels it to the ground and casts it down to the dust. 6 Feet trample it down the feet of the oppressed, the footsteps of the poor. 7 The path of the righteous is level; you, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous smooth. 8 Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts. 9 My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness. 19 But your dead will live, Lord; their bodies will rise let those who dwell in the dust wake up and shout for joy your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God The Epistle 1 John 1: 1-2:2 The New Testament Reading is from the book of St. John,Chapter 1, beginning to read at verse 1. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our joy complete. 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

3 3 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God (Sung acclaimations) The Gospel John 20: Hear the Gospel of our Saviour Christ, according to Saint John, chapter 20, beginning to read at verse 19. Glory to you,lord Jesus Christ. 19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you! 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21 Again Jesus said, Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven. 24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord! But he said to them, Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe. 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you! 27 Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe. 28 Thomas said to him, My Lord and my God! 29 Then Jesus told him, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. 30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. (Sung acclaimations)

6 6 MORE NEWS ITEMS ROSSORRY PARISH SELECT VESTRY The next meeting of the Select Vestry is on Monday 9th April in the Parish Office at 7.30 pm to consider the Annual a/cs The Easter General Vestry will be held on Thursday evening 12th April 2018 at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall,for the purpose of Electing Churchwardens, Glebewardens and Select Vestry members, for the current year, and further to transact such business as is within their cognizance, connected with the Management and Sustentation of the Parish. This meeting is open to all and all Parishioners are encouraged to Attend, to take part and support the management of their Parish. Music in Fermanagh presents Franz Schubert- Die Schöne Müllerin Wed 11th April 2018 in the ARDHOWEN THEATRE Andrew Irwin (Tenor) and Martyn Parkes (Piano) Schubert s first song cycle, Die Schöne Müllerin tells of a young apprentice miller who falls in love with his master s daughter. The first eleven of the twenty-song work show that he believes his love is returned. He soon realises that he has lost her to the green-jacketed forester, and in despair throws himself into the brook to which he has constantly confided his hopes and fears. In 2012, Andrew Irwin left his hometown of Enniskillen to study at Chetham s School of Music. Having studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Andrew will return from an Erasmus exchange at the Hochschule für Musik und Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig to sing this famous work. Members of Rossorry Mothers' Union are invited to St Macartin's Cathedral visitors' night on Monday 9 April. The speaker is Frankie Roofe, who will speak on 'Old Enniskillen.' The next meeting of Rossorry MU is on Thursday 19 April at 8.00pm when the speaker is Iris Suitor, All Ireland Vice President.

7 A Joint Holy Week and Easter Message from the Archbishops of Armagh 7 A moment for all time There is a beautiful moment in the biblical account of the crucifixion when Our Lord says to his mother and to John, the closest of his disciples, that they are now to care for each other as mother and son. (John ). It is a moment in time, and a moment for all time. The need for a human family s care and love becomes greater with each passing day. We are living in a time when families are under threat from a myriad of pressures. Some of these pressures are material, others are societal or spiritual. And sadly, there are many people who, for whatever reason, can only dream and wish for the warmth and care of family. Our Lord s instinctive concern, that his mother and his closest friend should be there for each other, re echoes down through the centuries to us today. As brothers and sisters in the Lord, we are called to be patient and kind, gentle and generous, welcoming to those in need. We are to be family for others, including those who are, or who feel they are, estranged from the family circle. This summer, Christians of different traditions will share the joy of thousands who will gather in Dublin from around the world to celebrate the good news of Family as Joy for the World. The accounts of the Easter Church, that grew from the resurrection of Jesus, remind us that the hospitality and generosity of the human family is a hallmark of Christian belonging. In Acts of the Apostles chapter 16, when Lydia and her household take the Christian faith for themselves, they instinctively offer their home to Saint Paul as his home too. In the coming days we will remember the profound expression of self giving love which is at the heart of the Cross and the Resurrection. Selfless love is also the key to the wonderful Christian vision of what the family is called to be by God.
